  1. Did not need a response, nor do I need some yahoo telling me if I am a good person or not and I suspect that most others do not either.

  4. Totally agree. Letting them make decisions while still on student status builds good judgment. For example: When I am in the training process with a student and the clouds are not acceptable for a student jump, first I make sure they understand the issues concerning clouds and if there is room on the Otter I will ride up with the student and let them look down and give them the opportunity to make the call of a no-go themselves. Basically, with guidance, let them make decisions concerning many aspects like canopy size choices, sunset loads that have gotten a little too dark for a student jump, bad weather, winds, stuff like that. 9 times out of 10 they seem to make the right calls that lean toward the side of safety. Allowing them to make the call to ride down or not board in the first place seems to breed better judgment earlier on. - Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…

  10. Sounds like you did fine! Just relax and remember, we are doing this to have fun, not to be hard on ourselves. Listen to your instructors and WELCOME to the sky! 12. Houston is only about 750 miles from El Paso. Eloy is probably closer. Yup! The longest part of a trip to Cali is getting across Texas! El Paso and Houston is a long haul - like driving to DeLand...
  13. Hairy? Did not take notice to all that weirdness but the bruise does not seem like it is not really all that bad. It's just part of jumping student gear, making adjustments to it yourself after your instructor had it set and less than perfect body position that students normally produce at deployment time - all of which has been covered in this thread. It's no big deal and the bruises will not be an issue once all the issues are addressed. The OP stated: “When you do your first jump..learn from my mistake. When you think your leg straps are tight enough...go just a little bit more.” How about – When you do your first jump, learn from my mistake and let your instructors adjust your gear. - Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…

  15. Well, don't fret my friend. Chicago comes to a close 2nd to the real city. I hated Chicago. When I went out there for a project, (east whacker drive) I tried to find some bars and clubs to venture into. To my disappointment by the time 1:30am rolled around, everything was closing. That sucked big time. You guys definitely have some hot chicks though! What happened to "sticking with the OP"???

  17. I once read a fantastic essay written by Roy Williams that I found quite liberating for my inner peace, perhaps you will too. “Have you ever seen two parties reconcile when both sides believed themselves to be entirely right? Have you ever seen one side of an argument convince the other side through debate? Yet we continue to pile high our evidence, thinking our opponent will say, “Oh, now I see the light. Thank you for pointing out to me how wrong I’ve been.” Humility is an interesting attribute. Often seen as weakness, humility is actually the fruit of a deeper level of confidence and a higher level of thinking. When challenged, the small and insecure mind immediately becomes defensive and combative. But an expansive and secure mind will ask itself, “Do I really want to put my dog in this fight?” When the silent answer is, “No, this fight wouldn’t be worth the trouble or the distraction. It would be a bad investment of my time, and time is the stuff life is made of,” we say, “Maybe you’re right,” and the debate is ended. People call this humility. But when the quiet answer is, “Yes, I will put my dog in this fight because what’s at stake is worth the trouble,” then we see another fruit from the tree whose roots go deep and whose branches soar high. This second fruit is called patience. It allows us to stand firm in our convictions, never becoming frantic, anxious or shrill. Humility and patience; are the roots of your confidence sunk deep enough and do the branches of your intellect soar high enough to produce these daring fruits?” by Roy Williams Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
  18. No, it does not make sense, but then again, a lot of things humans do, do not make sense. It is not just the Atheists or the Religious that become heated in their debate, it is two sided. I have seen religious persons get quite involved with “saving” others, I suppose because they felt it is their duty to ensure their fellow human beings get saved from whatever negative fate they subscribe to. I have also seen a religious person become very agitated, to the point of aggression because someone present in a room simply stated they were an atheist. Alternatively, I have seen Atheists do the same thing, I suppose because they felt it is their duty to save the other person from wasting their time believing in something that is non-existent, perhaps they want the other person to “see the light”. The religious want to save others souls, the atheists want to save the religious from wasting the precious moments of their lives??? No, it does not make sense, but then again, a lot of things humans do, do not make sense. All I can do for inner peace is to let it go and just accept that the world and the people in it are the way they are and I am powerless to do anything about it. Both Religious and Atheists alike are always invited into my home to break bread and drink wine. There is no reason in my way of thinking that we cannot all get along harmoniously. I have endeavored to author this reply in keeping with the OP... - Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
  19. http://www.atheists.org/Atheism/ Atheism is a doctrine that states that nothing exists but natural phenomena (matter), that thought is a property or function of matter, and that death irreversibly and totally terminates individual organic units. This definition means that there are no forces, phenomena, or entities which exist outside of or apart from physical nature, or which transcend nature, or are “super” natural, nor can there be. Humankind is on its own.
