I just tell them that the more I learned about skydiving, the safer I thought it was (which is true). Tell them that 3 times as many people die SCUBA diving every year. Tell them the fatality rate is about 1 for every 80 to 100 thousand jumps made, and most of the fatalities are people that do things that you're explicitly taught not to. I do agree with other posts that say that some people will never understand how safe it is, and wuffos will NEVER understand what it feels like to skydive. There are battered women? I've got about 700 jumps on a Sabre 150. I've been spanked on opening about once in every 150 jumps. Whether the cause is body position, packing, or the canopy, I can't say. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

I haven't seen any real details of this plan, but I see a couple of issues right away: If you tax me on my odometer, and I take a cross-country trip, then I'll be paying for miles that I didn't drive in California. If people come in from out of state, you won't be taxing their driving. This will be just another reason for people who move to California to keep their cars registered out of state. I miss the hunting I did in northern Minnesota growing up. I shot a deer with a bow and arrow when I was about 15. I still eat venison, but I have to order it from out of state. I end up paying $10-$20 per pound (depending on the cut), but to me, it's worth it. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

I went to Italy last year, and tried pizza pretty much everywhere we went. The best we had was in the train station in Venice. Still trying to find something like it here. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

(For men:) What's better than roses on your piano? Two lips on your organ. What do you get when you cross a rooster with a telephone pole? A 30-foot cock that wants to reach out and touch someone. What do you get when you cross a woman with ESP with a woman that has PMS? A bitch that thinks she knows everything. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

I, too am for euthanasia. If I'm in constant pain, and/or I just don't want to live anymore, why can't I have my life ended in a humane way? It's my life, let me do with it what I choose. I would also say the same thing if I'm in a vegetative state with no hope for recovery. Why pay tons of money to feed and water me for years? Pull the plug. There are battered women? When I see these posts, I try to figure out which ones won't be blocked by the company firewall. In this case, I guessed the first one. WRONG! No more clicky's for me today. I don't want to end up on the "Ateempting to access unathorized sites" list too often... There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

A Republican and a Democrat were walking down the street when they came to a homeless person. The Republican gave the homeless person his business card and told him to come to his office for a job He then took twenty dollars out of his pocket and gave it to the homeless person. The Democrat was very impressed, and when they came to another homeless person, he decided to help. He walked over to the homeless person and gave him directions to the welfare office. He then reached into the Republican's pocket and took twenty dollars. He kept 15 for administrative fees and gave the homeless person five. Now you understand the difference between Republicans and Democrats. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

1) what made you start jumping / how you became interested? Skydiving was always something I wanted to try once. I saw a flier for a drop zone in a sporting goods store, so I took it, and booked a tandem. After 1 jump, I was hooked. 2) How long have you been jumping? How many jumps do you have? I have been jumping 10 years, and have 989 jumps. I think I've made more jumps each year than I did in the prior year. 3)What method of training did you do? Tandem progression. 4) how has skydiving changed you life? Skydiving became a place where I could get away from any worries I had. When I was at the drop zone, all I thought about was jumping. That "benefit" has faded a little, but I still look forward to jumping every weekend. Jumping always improves my mood. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

Larry - All I can say is 1) I've never personally heard of a Cypres misfiring (although I know it has happened.) 2) I PERSONALLY know 2 people (one of which you probably know) that have been saved from CERTAIN DEATH by their Cypreses. One experienced what he thought was a double-mal and subsequently gave up trying, and the other was a case of temporary paralysis due to a freefall collision. Terry There are battered women? An example of handling illegals by democrats is California. California has long been a democrat stronghold. California is the place where the DEMOCRAT-run legislature passed 2 bills that would allow ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS to get driver's licenses. The current REPUBLICAN governor won't sign the bill because the new licenses would not carry any sort of mark that would show that this person is indeed an illegal. DEMOCRATS refuse to put such a mark on the licenses because they don't want the ILLEGAL immigrants to be discriminated against in any way.

I also wanted to demo a Triathlon, but from their site, I couldn't find that there were any demos available. If demos are available, I'd love to find out how to get one. In the meantime, I requested a Spectre demo from PD's web site. So far, nobody has contacted me about it. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

Thanks Carey and Perris for a great POPS weekend

After this one, I was already looking forward to next year. I don't think this will work, though: "Honey, I'm just going to jump until noon on Saturday. There'll be plenty of time for me to get to our wedding..." Darn! There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years... -
Hooking canopy up Backward - how to properly?
TheBachelor replied to FrogNog's topic in Gear and Rigging
I was in the landing area after a jump, and I heard someone say "get your camera". I looked up, and sure enough, there was someone coming in with their canopy hooked up backwards. He landed fairly close to the target, and almost stood it up. He got an ovation from the crowd watching. It turns out his wife (also a jumper) had hooked up his canopy for him, and accidentally put it on backwards. After seeing that, I wouldn't chop it if it happened to me. There are battered women? I grew up in Northern Minnesota where there was a lot of hunting and fishing. I killed a white tail deer with a bow and arrow, and numerous game birds (grouse, etc) with a shotgun. My attitude was to eat what I killed, not to kill for the heck of it. I did feel sorry for the deer I killed, and my father said he felt the same way every time he shot one (with a rifle). I also felt a great deal of excitement and pride. I don't live near good hunting anymore, but I think I'll do it again some day. And of course, I'm a member of PETA: People Eating Tasty Animals. I'm, so sorry to hear this. I didn't know Adria, but I've seen her and her teammates many times at Elsinore. Adria, you'll be in my thoughts when I jump this weekend. Blue skies Adria. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

I talked to Ralph, the creator of Skybands this weekend. He had some quality-control problems with the large bands recently, so he pulled them. He now has a quality-control person at the manufacturer, and has just received a new batch. If he's satisfied with their quality, he'll begin shipping them to distributors relatively soon (don't have an exact date). There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

I have been in both the Perris and Vegas wind tunnels. I agree that Vegas would be of minimal help. That being said, I think Perris would help greatly. My fiancee' went to the Perris tunnel after failing her AFF level 2 dive. She did 10 minutes, broken up into 5 2-minute sessions with a coach. She also got a video tape. When you look at the first 2 minutes on the tape, you see a lot of stability problems, while the last 2 minutes show a large improvement. After doing the tunnel time, she got through the rest of AFF without a rejump. With more than 900 jumps, I did some time in the Perris tunnel a few months ago. I definitely think it improved my flying. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

Highest altitude/lowest altitude

When I moved from the Midwest to Southern California, people didn't know what I meant when I asked for "skim milk". I eventually learned to ask for "nonfat", and everything was fine. Several years later, I was in a hotel in Minneapolis, and I asked for nonfat milk. The waitress asked "do you mean skim milk?" So as far as I'm concerned, it's a geographical thing, but to me, skim has never mean 2%. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

In training: Getting UNSTABLE then stable again
TheBachelor replied to somethinelse's topic in Safety and Training
First, as others have said, understand that if you do a good arch, you will be stable, belly-to-earth. A big part of that is being relaxed. You definitely want to work on that skill because you never know when you'll need it. There will be many times that you get bumped on exit, catch the wind wrong, etc. Once you do it once or twice, you'll wonder why you thought it was so difficult. Good luck! There are battered women?
