  1. Shore seems good, but lakes are deep 2-6-10...meters. Highway is quite bad, plenty of bridges, street lamps and other obstacles. That town is a green belly cutted out from forest, far from ideal. That rail-road can kill you: high tension power cord over it :). Ive started jumping in Hungary, there are more places than obstacles.
  2. Landing off? :) Easy to say. Im jumping a place where almost no alternate landing area: forest, lakes, high-way, town and railroad.
  3. Both are slightly tapered canopies. Sabre is 9 cell, Spectre is 7 cell. http://www.dropzone.com/gear/Detailed/9.html
  4. So which one? navigator and PD 280? It does matter? Nav is ZP topskin and more flare power than PD 280(F111). Dont expect PD280 to plan you out. Landing a ZP and an F111 is a different thing. If I were you I would stick to Nav. PD 280 is not a student canopy and you shouldve have .8 or less if you want student performance from an F111 canopy.
  5. I was told, that you can have to line-sets. One student and one pro. So you can use it longer due to different trims.
  6. Read the previous topics if you have a minuter. There was at least one topic about howto wash main....
  7. What kindda hard wind were talking about? 8m/s? More? I had jumps with ~8m/s winds. I was pulling and pulling one of the breaks after landing, it worked canopy collapsed, no drag.
  8. I had a hanging main on me after cutaway twice. The RSL was just on one side and secured with velcro. No dubt I feel lucky.
  9. It was loaded :) Is RSL on both sides? Let it be just on the left. Keep left riser with your hand and cut it away. RSL/reserve wont be activated and canopy will be collapsed. I had 9 jumps with RS4/A round GDR canopy. It has an old 2 sided/2hand operated cutaway system. We were adviced to use one of them on drag.
  10. YEah. It was hanging on some velcro. That gear had one side RSL. In case of high wind I would hold the riser of the RSL side and cut away. The canopy would deflate if its not suspended in both sides.
  11. Just one story. I had a mal from teminal, a rug over me. Ive cuted away and opened the reserve. I was surprised when I saw my main hanging on me from the RSL. I cant see any reason to disconnect RSL in high winds or landing on a building. IMHO a canopy is not loaded it wont fly, it wont drag. I bet a cuted away conpy wont open reserve on the ground with the RSL, or you can keep one of the risers after the cutaway, because you are standing on the ground.
  12. Ive seen almost just canopies with ~1000 jump for sale in my category. Ive calculates that its almost the same to be the first onwer or get it relined and be the last owner. Ive just lost a Merit with ~550 jumps(old lineset), broken lines and cutaway.
  13. Im wondering to do the same if I cant find a proper used canopy in the begining of the next season.
  14. E.g. Ive started with ripcord opening...... going to throwout PC was a separate step.
  15. The first question is he ready for throwout PC or not. Other question to know that rig you use. I agree your life might depend on it.
  16. If you learn how to use throwout PC you can still use ripcord, just dont throw it away:) Using throwoutPC requires stable deployment position and proper technics. You should consult with your instructor if you are ready for that. Safe Landings
  17. Ive asked the same question from my instructor. He answered that PC has about 2000N pull power. So dont worry it will open.
  18. Yeah, why not? Its in the same canopy category(intermediate)
  19. If you have a right size of container your pin is tight enough not to move anywhere. And if its tight and it is in a protected and safe place whats the point to check it? Its better to check the harmness and PC instead.
  20. I had rides with C-172,182,206. Mostly the only thing I do is sit. I still cant see any point to do a pin check. My pin should be where it is/was on the ground.
  21. Why do you need a pin check in a C182/206? Youve just sat in and going to jump out. You dont even have space to do anything.
  22. Because you have not packed enough. After 50 packjob you have to do it well.
  23. You know people are living and skydiving outside US and there are some places without packer/packing service.
  24. We had search on that day. Some others were searching the day after. I had one more search session some other day. It might landed in a swamp or lake...
  25. Yeah, it was my packjob. Ive seen the line were dirty and used. The owner claimed that he bought the canopy with ~300 jumps, he had ~250 jumps with it.
