I had no idea why he wants to have exact glide data...
-
????? He wanted to know more detailed info about glide. GPS is good.

Its like being connected to a balloon. You can stear it really slowly. I had 9 jumps, but landing was totally unpredictable: from tip-toe to hard... I had rides on PZ-81(reserve). That is a triangular.

student canopy question
phoenixlpr replied to futurehighflyer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
165 lbs makes 185..190 as exit weight, that means ~WL0.7 and a 260 sqft canopy. I think 260 is a quite common size of student canopy. I think WL 0.7 is quite acceptable wing load for even BASE or accuracy. -
Get a GPS and play around. A Book to read: The Parachute and its Pilot by Brian Germain.

On what elevation? On what density altitude? On what temerature? With what humidity? About 2:1

Trust you instructor(s)! Do not worry about this. Students should be under 1.0 anyway. -
Sure. Use some tooth paste and polish them shiny

Correctly determining the length of closing loop
phoenixlpr replied to PhreeZone's topic in Gear and Rigging
It depends on what kind of knot you use. There are some strong, secure and even easy to open. Try figure 8 or figure 9 knots. You may check it from here. -
Correctly determining the length of closing loop
phoenixlpr replied to PhreeZone's topic in Gear and Rigging
There is one more factor: humidity. Canopies stored in dry place packs bigger than kept in more humid place. The more I pack the smaller it packs. By experience? If the loop is took loose I make it shorter. If I cannot open the knot I replace the loop. -
Ok. So how do you call the part between the loop and the toggle?
-
Sure. Its even packs itself it you say the magic word. "PACKER!" works for 7 and 9 cells.

Not me , but I did it anyway. It was a bit strong to have 2 in a row.

It took some jumps to get confidence back.

I think it was about the short recovery arc.

Don't worry. Accuracy jumpers still using that all around the world.

Funniest / most embarrassing first jump reaction

Thanks for the link. I have not checked every pixel of the previous post. -
My experience is that (my) Pilot150 is planing out by itself without any rear input if I release the fronts gently. I'm sorry to hear that.
-
Are you telling me that you have learnt swooping on a Pilot150? What is the reason to fight with a canopy and doing something if that is not designed for that? It has a short and positive recovery arc. Is that the thing you want to have if you want to learn how to swoop?
-
I do agree with you. Pilot is perfect for everything but swooping(at least in lower WL, e.g.
