It might affect your credit card too, so keep it away . -
I have a Neptune. Once I got -40m on the ground after landing. It made me think. I have an Optima too. When Optima beep on plane ride Neptune should show 300 +/- 5m.

A better analogy would be teaching SCUBA to someone who had never even tried swimming at all before. Would you do that? I'm not a divemaster/scuba instructor. It could be easier to teach someone swimming the diver way if he/she has no background in swimming. -

recovery arcs and learning to swoop...

I think you might measure it with a help of a digital altimeter. Check altitude and descent rate before your high speed maneuver and get altitude where your canopy has its previous descent rate again. -

What do you mean by safe packing? -
I'd check review and drop those without LANC port.

Check eBay. I have just bought a Sony DCR-HC32 for a nice price. Make a set of a desired models and go for them.
-
You should be really broke to buy that. I don't know VectorI/Wonderhog, but its even older. You might find some more uptodate and affordable rig.
-
None of the are freefly friendly. Its a good reason to stay away from it.
-
I have a bullet cam already. It's not so easy to find a suitable, cheap, Sony miniDV camcorder anyway.

How to learn to pack chutes . . .

I had no paid packing lessons. There are not any packers in some countries. You might receive 1-3 free packjob as a part of the FJC. If you want to jump, you have to pack, so if you jumped it, you have to pack it. There was the old school in behind the iron curtain. You had to learn how to pack before you could start jumping. That is over for good. I had really good teachers: instructors, skydivers and canopies. People can just show that path, their way, but you have to learn your own. -
I've found Mini Dvr Pro too. I'd like to have that instead. That does not fit in my budget. I'm wondering to order Neuros. I'm not decided yet. I think it can be a nice tool to learn how to shoot video about a skydive and the bullet camera is really low-profile.

Comparing apples and oranges? MPEG2 vs MPEG4? I'm not a cameraflier yet.
-
I think I should borrow yours . You should have one to power your camcorder while shooting your skydive.

Packing Precision Aerodynamics chutes ???

I packed Xaos21 and Velocity too. I have not noticed any difference in packing, except they were 7 cells and I have way to more packs on 9cells. Other thing you might take a soft pen and color code your lines. I have not done this but seen on a Navigator. There is no stupid question if its unique . -

If you have nose between your legs its an easy job for A-B. B-C are separate. And C-D are in a different length. -

I never heard that the suspension lines would make any difference on packing. -
So, you might need a bit longer loop.
