  1. Man that is an awesome rig... Too bad though, I figure your first jump after the spring thaw up there in Ohio, you will have a nice big mud skid mark on the leg strap and bottom of the container... This will be due to the nice slide in approach you will have after landing from the lack of jumping during the winter... get a big can of scotch guard and spray it down before you pack it... 2. Transition canopy... I went from a Hornet to Sabre 2 to Stiletto to Crossfire 2 to the FX I am jumping now... I think the Stiletto and Crossfire 2 were excellent in the beginning. The Stiletto had a very small recovery but it was great for learning the increase in turning and speed. The Crossfire was even better when I started swooping with it's long recovery and deep flare. 3. Bonnie... I would like to see your other examples... "The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over"
  4. Do you think you could get a smaller D bag, that way it will fit in the container easier, and keep the Katana packed. That is if the canopy will fit in something smaller... just an idea G "The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over"
  5. It's your responsibitly to other jumpers to be aware of your altitude, as a saftey precausion...Thus said it would be good to have visual as well as your audible... "The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over"
  6. Also what happens when those guys chow on the PST? Has anybody ever washed a canopy? Just curious what that would do to the material or the calandering... G "The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over"
  7. So I have watched your video now around ten times... You and your coach are right regarding your arm and body position. Try and imagine this with me; You have your left hand/arm forward a bit more than your right hand/arm. My interpretation of this is more from your shoulders and their position. this might explain why your harness suddenly shifts to the left which again I noticed after you said something. If you slightly rotate your right shoulder to the back a little while moving your left shoulder forward a little it makes an uneven surface for the air to flow. You are now sort of like a rudder moving through the air in a downward spiral (what we call an orbit). I am over exaggerating the movement but up there at 13 K and 160mph, small discrete adjustments have rather large implications. Luckily you are being introduced to head down with good habits. Your arm position with palms down is a very good habit to have. Too many people fly palms up trying to hold themselves in the air, looking to deliver a pizza. Very poor habit, tends to make people fly with their chest and not their legs... Remember your upper body is exposed to the air first so it has the initial input on how the air will flow over your body, your legs are then used to keep you stable as you fall through the air stream. People say we fly with are legs because we are correcting what we initially feel is happening with our upper torso with our legs and feet. That is why in the beginning we try and keep the upper body as relaxed as possible so you will have an easier time learning how to control your movements using your legs... Best thing more and more two ways... G "The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over"
  8. Very nice seeing that it is your tenth time on your head... I noticed out the door that you both had a small orbit, which is comon for people when flying on their head in the beginning. It looks from the video that your coach was trying to show you this at the end of the dive. This was after he gave the signal for legs out. Which was good, you can see that you pushed them out more and stopped the orbit for a while. Towards the end of the video I get the impression that you continue orbiting while your coach picks a a point so you can see him as a reference to the movement you are doing in the air. Check out the video again and watch the back ground, it has a slight turn to the left as you watch the video. I am simply giving you pointers on what you can focus on. But in the end a really good body position, nice and relaxed and no corking, also seems that you aren't back sliding or driving... Nice... 9. I have dealt with Roy... I bought my first rig from him. He was nice enough and helped me decide what I needed at the time I purchased. they are friendly and have very competitive prices. 10. Those stats are from the owners manual, though I was able to find them at the aerostore web page... "The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over"
  11. Do airlock canopies fly similar to crossbraced canopies? I have only flown cross brace and elliptical, but this post seems very interesting regarding the flight characteristics and performance of these canopies discussed... Also does Big Air plan on developing something along the lines of cross braced? 13. Unfortunately this post will not get the people who have done it and do smoke to reply... So it is really misrepresented. I can understand why people do not do it and the safety reasons that are instilled in ones head for skydiving should be enough... There are people out there that say the same thing about skydiving that have no idea really what is involved... The same can be said about someone who enjoys drinking, smoking, what ever have you. If you have never experienced the situation, your observation is simply an opinion with lack of proof or real data to support. I do not condone something that obviously impairs your perception ability with such a high risk sport, but I also don't believe chastising someone for their beliefs or lifestyle... I feel sad that this post will be one sided by those who feel so objective... Even though it is posted by someone who does not exist other than in cyber space... 16. The GX... This was recently flown at the PST by Jim... And someone was correct when they were discussing something along the lines of a hybrid with partial cross bracing through the middle and regular cross port end cells... Some sort of new innovation on an old idea you tell me... G "The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over"
  17. In response to your quote... I would still consider someone a freeflyer regardless whether they can fly on their head or not... I would just consider them a limited freeflyer or still learning... There are a lot of dives that freeflyers stay on their head the whole time... Those are my favorite...With quite a few transitions on the way down... G "The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over"
  18. I did not participate in your poll either. But I would have to agree with some of the previous posts that a "Freeflyer" would be considered someone who is able to fly in a controlled manner any which way they can meaning incorporating all three body positions (head down, sit, stand). Would you consider some one who jumps out and stays on their belly the whole dive a RW skydiver? Just because someone knows how to fly that particular way doesn't necessarily consider them a stereotype... From my experience I have found a "freeflyer" to be someone who spends most of his time flying on his head or in a sit fly orientation and isn't worried about pulling points... 19. If you are going to do it make sure the pilot is OK with the drop site... There is a pilot locaed in your area that does biplane tours out of Pismo... He let us do a bandit jump from it but he wanted to make sure we did it in a non disclosed location... The original idea was to land on Pismo, but the park rangers were not into it since some local bird happened to be in mating season... 20. I tried rolling the nose into the center cell and then rolling it up... Jumped it and had a nice twist that swung me around on opening... Don't think I will be stowing the nose like that any more... My general concern had to do with whether the the fabric is exposed to greater wear due to the way you roll the canopy into the bag? "The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over"
  21. It is being discussed... I have told them repeatedly that rule is why more experienced jumpers don't come down... But they are not very strict with it, and if you don't advertise it's not exactly looked into... 22. I haven't seen it in DVD... Clouds Edge that is... G "The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over"
  23. New Owner... Buzz has decided to sell the DZ... And luckily we have a buyer... "The edge ... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who know where it is are those that have gone over"
  24. To celebrate the new management of Skydive San Diego, this Thursday 1-1-2004, we will be having $16 jumps... Come see what the excitement is all about...
  25. Yes standard pro packing at the beginning... Then 180 flip canopy, section the tail over the nose, quarter and roll... Place D bag over canopy, placing canopy inside D bag. Reverse 180 by rotating the D bag (to get rid of line twist) and continue with stowing lines and closing pocedures... Pretty easy procedure and I have been having nothing but great results from it... The Brazilians at the DZ like to call it "mucho loco packing"... How nice, to instill confidence...
