Germany says coal is more important than people

I have tried and failed to help you grasp the simplest of realities, so I resorted to the Sesame Street version of Germany’s doomed attempt at energy transition. -

They gambled they could replace coal and nuclear with wind and solar, using Russian natural gas as a bridge fuel on the quixotic notion they could be leaders in “saving the planet”. They gambled, they lost and they lost BIG. The one positive is that is should serve as a cautionary tale for the rest of us. -

Until it happens I will be right and it looks like I will continue to be right for years to come. Then there is China “Nationwide, power plants burnt 8.16 million tonnes of thermal coal daily for the first two weeks of August, up 15% from a year ago, according to most recent data from the National Development and Reform Commission. On August 3, daily thermal coal consumption hit a record high of 8.5 million tonnes.” -

https://www.dotmagazine.online/issues/powering-and-greening-IT/energy-is-expensive-in-germany “Why is energy so expensive in Germany? The country is attempting to transition from fossil fuels and atomic energy to renewable energy sources. This change comes at a steep price, which is funded by levies and taxes on Germany’s citizens and companies. Industrial consumers carry a tax burden of 45.5 percent in Germany” “Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy published a report called “The Energy Transition – Our Success Story.” The report’s chapter titles brim with confidence: “Sustainable and safe”; “Affordable…” “the management consulting firm McKinsey, which has been publishing its own findings on the energy transition in Germany every six months, declared quite the contrary. According to McKinsey, the success of renewable energy has been possible only through subsidies. The initiative’s goals – and most importantly the reduction of carbon dioxide -- are becoming more unrealistic, McKinsey says. Out of 15 key performance indicators McKinsey defines, only one has improved in the past six months, while 10 actually have gotten worse.“ This was five years ago, things have only gotten worse…much worse. -

They abandoned their domestic fossil fuel production to pursue their renewables fantasy and became addicted to Russian oil and gas. https://www.worldometers.info/coal/germany-coal/ “Germany has proven reserves equivalent to 154.6 times its annual consumption. This means it has about 155 years of Coal left“ Economic suicide via virtue signaling. -

I’m pretty sure that was Phill. In any case, although I appreciate all of the attention and am deeply humbled by it, I agree with you, let’s get back to those poor Germans. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2022/08/23/world/german-power-prices-panic-europe/ “Germany’s circumstances are particularly urgent: The country’s dependence on Russian gas leaves it vulnerable as it desperately searches for alternative supplies. The nation is considering restarting coal-fired power plants and may extend the life of remaining nuclear power plants,” -

Funny you should mention that as my undergrad degree is in international relations and I took electives in botany, geology and physiology. But enough about me, let’s talk about those poor Germans. -

Releasing violent felons and showing leniency towards someone convicted of marijuana possession are two different things. Your raging hatred of Trump results in your inability to make that discernment. You need to lay off the MSNBC as well. Lets get back to discussing how the fantasy of ‘green’ energy has lead us to the precipice of WWIII. -

I think you are confusing policies with personalities. I suppose your hatred for Trump is so deep that you are against The First Step Act as well? “The First Step Act was not just hailed as a rare bipartisan achievement for the 45th president but as the beginning of a major shift in GOP politics, one that would move the party past the 1980s tough-on-crime mindset to a focus on rehabilitation, racial fairness and second chances.” Or perhaps the Abraham Accords? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham_Accords You need to lay off the MSNBC, it’s not healthy to constantly be in the grip of TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) Now back to the OP. -

Look at what I found! “Ultimately, Die Welt estimates that the figure would mean roughly 24 million households either treading water or financially drowning — a dire statistic, considering those in power already fear public revolts over their mishandling of a multitude of crises. The most pressing of these issues is no doubt the ongoing gas crisis, with the political establishment — largely under former Christian Democratic Union leader Angela Merkel — focusing on achieving green agenda-driven climate goals at the expense of energy security, and allowing the country to become ever more reliant on Russian energy.” If only Europe had focused on domestic reliable energy production instead of chasing the fantasy of renewables while becoming addicted to Russian oil and gas, we might not be on the verge of WWIII. -

Low taxes, less oppressive regulation, secure borders, strong military, energy independence? That is just conservative boilerplate. Trumpism is the cult of personality surrounding Trump, good policies are not Trumpism. -

So, no worse than 500 years ago? I guess you will blame climate change when Europe freezes this winter for want of more fossil fuel. -

Who’s rights have been attenuated? Where are voting rights taken away? OTOH how many people have been murdered, how many cars have been hijacked, how many stores have been robbed, how many folks have been assaulted by criminals released by radical DAs financed by Soros? I think the real harm caused by far left wing DAs outweighs the imaginary harm from conservative judges. -

Which begs the question, why not more wind and solar? It’s not for lack of investment! “Germany spent nearly 202 billion euros on renewable energy projects from 2013 to 2020” -

“Germany will prioritize shipments of coal and fuel for power stations on the country’s rail network…This requires very sophisticated logistics, which makes it necessary to prioritize energy transports by rail…The new decree prioritizing energy shipments over passenger traffic or other goods” https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-08-24/germany-gives-fuel-cargo-priority-on-rail-to-avert-energy-crunch#xj4y7vzkg Why don’t they just put up some more windmills and solar panels? OTOH I heard solar panels don’t work so well in northern latitudes during the winter but I’m sure that is just FOX news propaganda.

“Some border residents and organizations are speaking out against the Biden administration after the U.S. Department of Homeland Security revealed plans to fill in gaps of a border wall to keep migrants out near Yuma, Arizona” “The administration received similar blowback when it announced in early July it was doing the same in San Diego at a location called Friendship Park, where people, including many families separated by the border, used to gather before the coronavirus pandemic to touch hands and sometimes hug. The Biden administration said it was planning to build two 30-foot-high barriers there, also citing safety concerns for migrants and government staff. "Sorry, not buying it," said John Fanestil of the Friends of Friendship Park during an early July Zoom meeting encouraging people to protest construction of the wall. "If they build these walls they're desecrating this landmark location," said Fanestil. "It is arguably the most historic and culturally significant location on the border."” Not FOX news.
-
If walls don’t work, why is he even doing that? Why would Senator Kelly make such a foolish request?
-
Biden stoped the border wall before it was completed. He has now rectified that mistake and has resumed construction of Trump’s wall.

It’s from the sheer heat generated by thousands of coal fired power plants.
