  1. Youd be that old by the time you got done paying for the fuel. Now if yall were smart, youd know how to finance it, get a loan, get a few fighter/ bombers, take over some small country out in the Carribean and tax the shit out of everyone to help pay it off.
  2. On the boat you dodo head... Dear HH I so did not mean to personally attack said individual by calling them a dodo head... I'll try to clean up my act. Yea, but, what if youre one of those people who are always "missing the boat"?
  3. ok, so the DZ would have to have a B license requirement D license....sharks!
  4. Yall are getting a little overzealous here. So the jump plane takes off and drops you at 13K, where you gonna land, in the ocean??? Yea, right. Good price though, $4,500,000(USD), this might be something that interests Carlos Ledher. Beats hanging out on Norman Cay.
  5. And all I got was a sock in the arm...some guys get all the breaks

    Smiles

One when I found out that there are several people here at work who skydive, and some time ago a group of them went out skydiving together. Im trying to get a group together to go out to Eloy on a regular basis. And thats cool. I sure do like this company.
  7. You must have one powerful ass , I have never made anyone cry because of my farts . This is by far the funniest thread Ive ever read. Im at work reading this, and by this one I accidentally busted out laughing so hard people were looking over and wondering what the hell was going on.

    Busted!

Like sit up, roll over, bark.... Just ask them what kind of plane they jumped from. But dont say "did you jump a twin otter, Cessna...", just ask them what kind of plane. When they make up something stupid, then let them know that is not a jump plane and they need to pull their head out. Use skydiving terminology to trip them up until they realize how stupid they sound.

    POSERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. What I meant by that was the DZ management seems to carry a grudge against you if you dont follow the program as fast as they want you to. They had been giving me quite an attitude lately because of that, but thats okay because I wasnt trying to make friends with them anyway. I dont think something like skydiving should be rushed for anyone, and I know there is a high attrition rate from people who are so overwhelmed by it that they think they can no longer handle it. These DZs wouldnt lose so many students if they would just take it easy on the students and not pressure them. It takes a long time for some people (like me) to mentally get used to it, I know that isnt an easy thing to do for a lot of people.
  11. Michele, I had something similar happen to me in the way of "heaviness" in the chest and tightening of the chest. This was while I lived in Houston, I immediately stopped at a convienience store and had them call 911. The firemen came and I told them I thought I was having a heart attack, they denied that that was happening and said heart beat and pulse were just fine. They then gave me a an oxygen mask and after two breaths the chest pain went away. They told me this was an anxiety attack and was casued by too much CO2 in the lungs. Working out, getting in shape, losing weight solved the problem and it did not occur again. This is what may be happening to your father, its easy to mistake an anxiety attack for a heart attack. When I went to get a complete checkup, they found absolutely nothing wrong with me, and told me the problem may have been stress.
  12. So it can be done? It helps if you can average more than 1 jump every nine months. A year and a half in the sport and I've only fallen out the door 3 times. Now I get scared when I get to the DZ too, but I just keep watching Crosswind and that inspires me to keep going back. I want to do the first few AFFs this year, then breeze off of it until next year while working on getting my own equipment, then take it from there. Really, I think a lot of anxiety comes from being pressured to "hurry up" by the DZ. I had them do that to me, and then I made it clear that I will take my own time about it and jump when I feel like it. After that they started giving me an attitude, and who cares? Hell Im paying them, theyre not paying me.
  13. And don't forget to ARCH!! Let me reemphasize that. DONT FORGET TO ARCH!!!
  14. You know, Ive had these DZs tell me that you dont want to take a break between jumps because you might forget everything. I think that is just a ploy they use to bring in more money, they dont want you to take your time but they try to "railroad" you through it, so they tell you that. Ill bet even after a long, long break you dont forget a thing, and when you step out the door you just pick up from where you left off.
  15. There was another thread on this video in Dec. 2002: Cutaway Poll The video sure talks about RSLs, whether theyre using them or not I dont know. I do know there were backflips being done in high speed mal cutaway. I was thinking about this today, if the RSL operates so quickly that instability (backflips) dont occur, and the reserve is made to open in instability, then why is the Skyhook being introduced? It is being introduced to solve the RSL question from what Ive seen. So there is an RSL question after all? One that dictates the use of a Skyhook? I was just questioning this today while watching that video again. Not trying to challenge anyone and pretty much trust what Billvon says, but there is some descrepancy here, and where there is descrepancy, there is doubt. When there is doubt, the door gets a lot harder to get out of. I keep picturing myself going down trying to clear a horseshoe on the reserve PC. That cant be a good feeling, because it aint a good thought.
  16. -------------------------------------------- He's the guy that looks like a cross between a Harley rider and a Hindi guru. What a beard! Shows you how well I was paying attention, he was in the part talking about lineovers I finally noticed. Almost got this thing memorized by now.
  17. Nope...not alone. Me too. And I don't yet feel that safe when jumping out of them, either.... Ciels- Michele Welp, just found out this evening I may not be having that problem for awhile. Another problem just came up...no more money and a negative balance. I dont know what I do with money, where does it all go? Some of it went to skydiving, not that much. I guess its kind of a "temporary" relief, so now I get to worry about money, which means I dont have to worry about "the door" for awhile. Before skydiving I would have been going to pieces by now, but now that Im used to being worried about life/ death situations, this is nothing. This memorial weekend, moutain climbing, thats cheap, doesnt cost anything.
  18. After watching it about 20 times, I finally decided to watch it through the credits at the end, lo and behold, Bill Booth was listed there! I had to get that one from someone selling it on EBay, I couldnt find this video anywhere else. Do they make a newer version? Or maybe a DVD version?
  19. Actually that makes sense, it explains why I keep seeing skeletons comming down under canopy. Always wondered about that...
  20. What about experimentation? That doesn't make you gay. You mean like, scientific experimentation? Not if its in the interest of science...
  21. Naw, we werent arguing, we were discussing. But that is right, I am a non-pilot but not totally whuffo on that end. When I was 17 I had a solo license and used to fly these Cessna 160s (160 if I remember correctly), anyway they were tiny single engine props. I think I had just over 20 hours before I quit. I quit when, one day, I was doing touch and go's when a storm was blowing in, but not quite on us yet. Something caused the plane to go out of control, the controls wouldnt respond. After that I developed a fear of flying pretty much anything. Im pretty paranoid of flying and must be the only person in the world who feels safer jumping out of the airplane than riding in it
  22. Thank you. I absolutely could not agree with you more, you took the thoughts right out of my mind. Very, very well put. Its a great confidence builder, and gets you used to the idea of taking action to save yourself in any other type of situation.
  23. I think most people accept the (low) risk of death due to flying, but do not want to accept the (relatively high) risk of dying while skydiving. Skydiving is not a safe sport; flying is a very safe way to get around. For people averse to risk, flying but not skydiving may well make a lot of sense. Alaskan Airlines jet, crashes into the Pacific killing everyone on board. Terrorist attacks bring two airliners into the World Trade Center, killing everyone on board. Terrorist attack results in airliner crashing somewhere near Washington DC, killing everyone on board. Some of these people were calling thier relatives to say goodbye. In the early 90s, another airliner crashes into the Atlantic shortly after takeoff, killing everyone on board. I have spent my life hearing about airliner crashes, over and over and over again, throughout the years, and almost every time, no one survives. Yet I have always seen this being "downplayed" by the airlines, who continue to do absolutely nothing to make plane trips safer. And Im supposed to believe that commercial flying is safe? Ive driven my car for over 15 years now, mostly in a large conjested city, and I have had not one single accident to date. I can keep myself from getting into an accident, I can avoid accidents, and if Im headed for a collision I can manuever out of an accident (which has happened a few times to date). We have recently seen the liberal profile in this country dispute letting airline pilots carry firearms to prevent terrorist attacks onboard aircraft, so we are supposed to believe that terrorists with guns are a lot safer than pilots with guns. I know skydiving is dangerous, but like driving, you can take whatever actions to try to get out of a death situation. Not that its easy, but you still have that option. In a commercial airliner, the only option you have is that you hope you didnt get on the wrong plane that day. Im not just drawing an anology here, personally, I will not fly commercial aircraft if I can at all help it. Sure, I can get nervous before exiting a plane, but I get a lot more nervous from having to sit in an airliner. I can fully understand your points on skydiving however, especially on the DZOs, and like said in the first post, it puts you in a pretty dangerous situation. I always stick up for myself at a DZ, when I dont like something, I either dont jump or I can be a real pain in the ass about it. And maybe I dont make too many friends there, but Im not there for that, Im there to jump, and then walk off the DZ alive. Thats the way I handle things and I feel pretty secure with it. On commercial airliners, you dont have those kind of options, your only options are to get on the plane and hope for the best, or dont get on it at all.
  24. You say a snivel, that sounds like a streamer.
  25. Tell me more about the pilot in tow if you dont mind. Did you try to cut away from it or just pull the reserve?
