this flare thing has always been an issue. I have 76 jumps and 40 or so have been sweet. I went for the Scott Miller jump class at crosskeys and it gave me a tremendous understanding of canopy flight. My landings have gotten better since that class but I still dont stand them all up. If I do 4 jumps in a day, my last jump is super sweet. In my view, it comes with numbers. We are given the basics but you gotta do over and over again. I aint ashamed of doing a good old plf. One of these days Im gonna win the hit & chug as I tumble past the mean Green.

good point John, ????

your not alone with the money thingee. It took me 4 years to get off student status. It was frustrating so I divorced my wife ,sold the house, gave my lawn mower and my dog to the neighbor, gave up smoking started drinking pabst blue ribbon, washed my clothes in the sink, go to happy hour with free food and order a water, crawl in one of those clothes drop bins in the middle of the night (you can get some real neat shit out of those metal boxes). Steal stuff from your neighbors garage and have a rummage sale the next morning. Hey I could go on and on. hehe, When the time is right you WILL get back into it. Good luck and I am sure we will hear from you again

I never really asked this question, i read the SIMS, listened to the people who skydive everyday and decided on a 1:1. Good starting point.

great question!!! by the response.. I guess we should do the odd finger thingee....

we are taught muscle memory. I am sure it has saved alot of asses but one has to think before jumping something different. I can assure you of this " this post will go right into my EP memory"

This entire thread sounds like a rerun of an old movie. My 2nd AFF jump was a thriller. I dumped @ 5K and the chest strap was so tight to the bottom of my chin I could'nt look down, I then tried to put my face behind the chest strap just to be able to see where the fuck I was to no avail. I then grabbed the front risers to lift myself up... perfect.... but I was desending too quick to an unfamiliar area. Now I am waiting for some instruction from the radio???????????????? not a fucking thing. I said "ok self lets do this" left toggle pull the front risers, look and vice verse and finally had to pick a back yard and it was the best goddam landing I ever had. The guy was in his back yard making burgers and it made his day. I had a least 6 offers for a ride back but waited for the DZ bus. It turned out that the radio guy forgot I was up there. But I am here to talk about it. I still would like to know what the hell I did on that landing as I lightly finessed the blades of grass like I have done this 10,000 times???? Thanks to my instructor Nickie,... an absolute Pro and 2nd to none.

Congrats, Just be prepared for a change of life -
I just got a second policy from Mutual of Omaha, the addition premium was $2.50 per K. I am going to shoot you a PM with some things you need to know

hey hey whats with this pre 2nd stuff.... just trying to get away with a 12 pack... Glad you landed ok. Life's journey is not to arrive at the pearly gates in a well perserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting...HOLY SHIT... What a ride..***

Your feelings are mutual, I am at my 76th jump and still feel quite of bit of apprehesion. Each skydive presents a different experience. To me skydiving becomes more complex with each jump hence it also makes me become more Sharp in my thinking process therefore learn from it. Its normal to think "WHAT IF" but I think of my self to be smarter than the average bear because I have to use my God given smarts to endure this extreme sport. I dont want to sound pompus but hey "we gotta think". I think you are at a very safe level in skydiving because of your post.. DON'T become complacent. Stay alert and once your confidence light lites, your skydiving will become a ton of fun. Stay with it & blue skies

Going to altitude I usually look at everyone that I can see, I just gaze @ chest straps, rsl's, hook knives,3 rings, pilot in good order (in pouch). Hey as you can see I am by no means a seasoned skydiver but I try to be "on every load" as observant as I can. These guys are my buddies!!

my firstime pack was on my firstime sabre. I didnt roll the nose enough hence nearly ripped my speedbag off upon opening. One LIVES and learns. I can kid about it now but it kicked my ass at the time. I should have had someone looking over shoulder when I did it. That opening made me very humble.

Serious problems with landing... Please help!
firstime replied to marysha's topic in Safety and Training
I am jumping the student canopies at the moment, a 240 I have a wingloading of about 0.5 on them, and next week I will start jumping my own 170, and I'll have a wingloading of about 0.7 on it. I'm doing a canopy control course in about 3 weeks, but I'm a little concerned that I shouldnt be jumping a 170 yet because of my previous landings. I will once again ask some instructors at my dz to watch my landings but I really think its a mental thing now for me. I expect to screw up every landing, and thus, I am screwing up every landing. If nothing else, I am providing free entertainment for everyone at the dz. Quote Cant land your 240?? going to a 170?? watching someone get med-vac'd off the DZ aint entertainment for me. be careful -
Comebacks for skydiving criticism?

What ever blows your skirt up (thats your wind) Check out our wind (can't tell you unless you try it) -
it happened to me once, but I was watching the guy pack my rig and saw him extend the kill line. I later after manifest (5 minutes and rig not outta my site) did a gear chck and did not see any color but pulled it down approx 1/8" and could see it. If I didnt see the packer pull the pilot I would have taken a plane ride down.

Am i missing something? What is the big deal here? The door was open

Catching freebags and mains (was: ASC fatality)
firstime replied to billvon's topic in Safety and Training
I saw guy catch a freebag when I started my aff and I thought it was "pretty cool" but now looking back It's "what an asshole" -
your post just smacked me in the head. Now that I think about it I should have sent the budweiser truck when I started my AFF. $$$$ well spent
-
the original post was not intended to be a joke. I read these forums to stay informed and post to inform others of safety issues. I will find more on this tomorrow and if it turns out to be bogus I will gladly take the heat, if it is true, our whole community needs to know who he is.
-
again Eric, I dont know all of the details but I do know he was barred from from all DZ's after this incident
-
the humor was cool, but this was a real time incident at the ranch,NY last week.
-
wrong question my friend, we are a group of people who check and double check our own gear and others in the plane on the way to altitude and never seconed guessed my gear otherwise I would not be on the load!!!
-
caught a buzz about a student throwing his pilot chute out in the plane just when woken. If this is in fact the same person' we had a problem with him at our DZ. I am being vague because I dont know the whole story, but if it's fact we all need to know who this person is. PM if you must otherwise post to the public. This really concerned me big time.

great answer tbrown, you summed it up in one sentence
