Abortion (thread split from Canadian hunting thread)
gjhdiver replied to chuteless's topic in Speakers Corner
Fair enough. Just to clarify my position. I don't have much of an opinion of religious faith as long as it's held privately and not used to dictate public policy. That way, you can believe in whatever nonsense you like. My problem is with religious fundamentalism, of all kinds and of all faiths. When some person or body of people attempt to entact their favorite superstitions into law, that's when I kick back. -
Beware of Kenny Ruetsch selling a Sabre 107
gjhdiver replied to JumpHog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This canopy looks very like the staff canopies that we used in Skydive City Z Hills in 1992-1993. If so, it is a very early Sabre 107, with a huge amount of jumps on it, probably in excess of 3000. Either that or it's a carbon copy of one of them. -
I live near there. Go for a walk on that block and it all becomes a lot more clear. it's a fucking urban war zone. There aren't many innocent parties there.

Tedious nonsense. That's what we pay them to do.

True. There more oil locked up in shale than there is under the ground. That's the good news. Now here's the caveat. The reason that it's all sat there today is because it so prohibitively expensive to get the oil out of it, and the environmentel impact is phenomenal. It would be cheaper to develop new forms of energy than to try to extract that stuff. I fully expect that they will though, as the political will isn't there to do anything else.

Abortion (thread split from Canadian hunting thread)

You need to watch your mouth with the personal attacks. It shows a lack in tact and ability on your part. It's not a personal attack, it's an observation. You'll notice that the moderators left it intact. Now look up the word "projection" I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything here. It's a waste of time. It's just fun to throw rocks at slow moving targets from time to time, and there's certainly some lumbering around this thread. -

I agree. I have no idea of what that person is trying to say. Mind you, at least it was drivel in bold type. -

I love this. Try to compete the sentence correctly. "All persons BORN etc etc" Funny how the anti choice brigade forget to add the full quote. Nope. Zygotes and fetuses don't get rights that trump already born people. Sorry. Better luck next time on the wheel of life spermy. it could be worse, you could end up in a sport sock next time around. Ever notice that in life, like this thread, all of the most vociferous anti choicers are male ? Still trying to get women back in the kitchen where they belong I suppose. I think I'll bug out of this thread now. Arguing with religious nutjobs is like trying to teach a pig to sing. It makes you look daft and just aggravates the pig. -
Abortion (thread split from Canadian hunting thread)

Really ? Wow. Thanks for solving what I thought was an extremely complicated and difficult subject with one sentence. Now we can all move on. I guess once you've suspended rational thought to the point that religion makes sense, all of the other hard stuff gets easy. -

Nothing. Not even his bowels if the content of his posts is anything to go by. The anger in his posts is a direct result of that powerlessness. I used to feel a ceratin amount of empathy for that sort of person, but after you've met the nth angry zealot (where n is a large integer), they all sort of merge into one sorry and unhappy mess of repressed desire and self-righteous anger. Best leave them to scream at the wind. -

Spoken like a true christian there Bill. Sorry, but our constitution trumps your superstition. Your imaginary friend has less rights than your beloved zygotes. Don't feel too bad though. There's plenty of evidence that a fetus whose brains are sucked out can go on to live a full and happy life as a religious fundamentalist. -
It's a Paradactyl. Not only is it a Paradactyl, it's MY Paradactlyl. I've rigged it up for people to jump this weekend for the old school weekend at Byron. If you want to jump it, it will be a $10 donation to the fund to help a local jumper's medical expenses. I'll pack it for you, and give you the brief. It;s a lot of fun to fly. This one is particularly nice because it's a reserve Paradactyl and has very few jumps on it. The picture is of Chris DeBar jumping it Byron last weekend.

Abortion (thread split from Canadian hunting thread)

Tell you what Bill. You and your Christian friends give a damn about them once they are actually out of the womb, and then normal people might listen to you. Until then, please feel free to fulminate uselessly on message boards. -
Marxism is rather more a philospohy of dialectical materialism based on the concept of excess value than a true political manifesto. Like the works of Lenin, it's somewhat of a hard read. It's more used as an insult to liberals by people who have actually no idea of it's basic concepts and wouldn't sit down and read Das Kapital if you held a gun to their heads. Another example of this is to go grab the first 17 year old punk with "Anarchy" scrawled on them and ask if they've read Kropotkin. Most modern socialists dispensed with Marxism half a century ago. Think, Great Britain or Sweden rather than North Korea or China and you'll get the idea.

Why do stores that are open 24 hours have locks on the doors ? Why is toilet paper scented ?

Damn, and I bought a rubber undersheet for the spare bed already.

They do, but the flare is tricky. I usually tell people to PLF it until they get a feel for the control range. There isn't a lot of warning before a stall on a wing and it lands soft with a little tug on the rear risers and a PLF.
-
I've jumped one. What a piece of shit. Yup. Don't confuse that thing with a genuine parawing. The Thunderbow was just a pointy PC. The Dac lands just great. It's actually one of the most efficient wing designs ever. If you want to learn more about the dynamics of that design, just do a search on the Rogallo Wing. There was a time in the sport where equipment was at a crossroads. One fork was the parawings, and the other was the square. The invention of the slider made the square jumpable and the rest is history. It's nice to see a little bit of that history in the air now and again though.
-
Hey, I told him to PLF it, and he was a good boy and did. Not even a bruise. He'd jump it again in a heartbeat. I see people land squares harder than that all weekend. You can stand them up real easy if you know how, but that's secret shit I won't tell anyone how to do until they have a good few jumps on it. You don't want to try to flare that thing like a square.
-
That's not entirely true. Some designs in the past have had issues with restricting the bridle extraction, some tuck flap styles do the same, some rigs have smaller or different materials on their P/C's, some hve a flat/tall bag and some have a square/stubby bag. All things can affect deployments ESPECIALY sub terminal. Yup, agreed, but he's talking about a perception of towing the pilot chute from full bridle extension, if I understand him correctly. Container design really doesn't come into it at that point much. It's probably more to do with a slow subterminal exit than just about anything else though. Hell, back in the olden days, I did all my clear and pulls on front and back rounds with ripcords. That will totally redefine the meaning of pilot chute hestations and slow openings for you.... Off topic. My first freefall was from 2800 feet on that system. I was told to count to five, and if nothing was happening after that, count to five again just to give it a little more time. Ahh, the good old days.
-
The make of container really has little or nothing to do with it. Every container out there right now has essentially the same pilot chute material, in about the same sizes, pulling on exactly the same pin. If you'd said that the pin was pulled and the bag was locked into the container, you would have a oint. It's just not unusual to have hesitations when you pitch right off the step of a Cessna. If you're getting 5 second hesitations after you overstuff the main container, it may be time to replace the main with the one that the main tray was designed for.
-
They might be confusing them with the Delta II parawing. That thing was definately les than reliable. The Paradactyl carries a full TSO as a reserve, and there's really nothing to it. The hard part about jumping it is to stop it from opening too fast.
-
But of course. I wouldn't want to dissapoint my public would I ? Well then, I'm not going to waste one of my free airline tickets. And to think I was going to let you stay at my place.....
-
dude, i'll show ya how it's done this summer... my pc lands soft....... you shoould jump it....... as for the pardactly.. anyone know anyone that wants to sell one???? Bit hard to get hold of really these days. You see a few double keel ones out there from time to time, but most have been jumped out. I've not seen an original single keel for sale like this one for a long time. That one in the picture used to be a reserve, so it's got very few jumps on it. You can always come out to Byron and jump it if you miss them !
