I own 1 angelfire reserve and I won't jump anything else in my own rig. Fantastic reserve. Yes Nancy has that bad habit of using Logic, Doesn't she? Here is why I love the Angelfire.... It's built like a D*#n tank. I think the folks at jumpshack must go through a lot of 1/2" trim tape and reinforcing tape in order to manufacture those canopies ~ Granted, I do believe they pack up a bit larger than your standard reserve (you may need to check the charts to verify that, but that was my impression) but safety is worth it. Being built well, I know that they are going to last and accept wear and tear well. As a rigger myself, I pack a lot of reserves that I can tell do not take the years as well.. Call Nancy and get one. Fantastic Reserves. =========Shaun ==========

Man, that's weird ~ I've had 3 Racer 2K3's, two with magnetic riser covers, and I've NEVER had a single riser pop open on it's own. . Did jumpshack pack the reserve? =========Shaun ==========

I'm usualy skeptical when I hear jumpers giving other 'freefly friendly' gear advice - IMHO, 90% of the time that phrase is used it is used with the definition "What the cool kids are jumping at XXX-Dz..." This hits it right on the spot.... =========Shaun ==========

Or you could say it has 1 900 degree twist?!?! =========Shaun ==========

No Skydiver in the right mind would do that - It's sad to hear about this horrible incident, but I can't help but imagine in my mind a grieving mother being visited by Glorified Ambulance-Chasers looking to make a few bucks. =========Shaun ==========

Dear Pantanal: I want that rig. K thnx. =========Shaun ==========

I really really really want the foam backpad for my 2k3's. Like, I really want. Mine is a 2009, and I'm thinking about getting a new one just to have that. I popped out 9 jumps on Saturday at the Redemption Boogie... 106 degrees, and after each jump, actually peeling my rig off my sweaty back. Man, that foam backpad looks good..... Props to Racer BTW, Best damn rigs on the market. If anyone has questions, they just call Nancy @ jumpshack and She'll take care of you. =========Shaun ==========

+1. Well Said. I've seen folks get very emotional when we are discussing AADs. I about saw a man cry once because cypres was so awesome and someone else said they wanted a Vigil. =========Shaun ==========

Hey, does anyone have a good resource for a DL-able tandem First jump certificate in .pdf? I've been looking around, and simply do not have time to make one.. =========Shaun ==========

I have 2 custom reserve PC for my 2k3's, I just sent a .jpg to Nancy @ jumpshack and she had it done for me. It was pretty cheap too - I want to say less than $50. =========Shaun ==========

I am UBX. I am always sealed as either JBX or sometimes UBK. I would love a seal press that can get all the letters on. =========Shaun ==========

RiggerLee, I have not done it, but i know for a fact it is possible. Our local FSDO guru down in Wichita has been tasked with keeping tabs on the riggers and DZ's in the midwest area (as part of the repercussions of a few incidents in the Missouri Area, but that is a different story). He's a fantastic man, I've had some good talks with him. When he started, the FAA sent him to Idaho for a year to rig with the smoke jumpers and gain 'proficiency' with parachute equipment. He told me that he has acted as DPRE on a few occasions. =========Shaun ==========

*Disclaimer - I love Racers, I'm on my 4th one, so take this post as it is* Here is the problem I see from a rigging standpoint on the racer - I close the rig, pop it, and measure the forces - I can easily retrace the t-bodkin channel near the top of the bag, but after one or two pops, I'm going to lose the bottom channel. So, instead of saying that you have to CLOSE it thrice, sounds like you may end up REPACKING it three times... =========Shaun ==========

Frapp. Frapp Frapp. Frapp Frapp Frapp Frapp. Frap*frap*frap*frap*frap*frap*Frap*Frap*frap*frap Sorry, I couldn't resist myself. =========Shaun ==========

Fantastic Idea! I find myself worrying in my sleep with a mental picture of a canopy wrapped around the tail and a washer bent in two. Headed to Home Despot Depot Tomorrow! =========Shaun ==========

Well Said Chief. Funny Ad, I personally don't own a mirage but I think they have the best ads. My favorite is the one with the snarly dog. +1 =========Shaun ==========

Huh - so the loop was through the second ring only or ring 1 and 2? I've seen a tandem hop & pop I suspect was caused by the same thing... =========Shaun ==========

Commemorative Airborne Guys and USPA DZ...
Unstable replied to Unstable's topic in Safety and Training
We have an interesting guy in town - He is a member of the Commemorative Airborne Wing out of Oklahoma, and he spend his free time traveling around the Country, jumping out of their DC-3, decked out in Full WW2 Garb, face paint, et cetera. He's jumped in Normandy, Germany, Paris Airshow, Farnborough, everywhere.... I went to his office Today (he owns a Turbine Training School) and he was showing me all his stuff. Fantastic Equipment - Some vintage, some New.... He has about 130 jumps or so. He inquired about jumping with us every now and again. His stuff, just give him a pass at 2k. Rigs are good and current, he just wants a pass over the DZ. He has no USPA or sport skydiving credentials, even though he is a member of USPA. From a Safety and training standpoint, has anyone seen this? I have no doubt of his abilities, but has anyone run into this? Our S&TA emailed USPA, but they didn't have too much experience with these folks... =========Shaun ========== -
What about if there were Linux Parachutes? Sure, I'd be free, but you'd get a box containing some hardware, a few patches of Cordura, some webbing, and have at it! =========Shaun ==========

I agree - I have one and have gone from not using it, to using it, then back to not again. The only time I've found it helpful was a slippery Raven-MZ, but after playing with it, I figured it out just fine.. **edited for Spelling only.** =========Shaun ==========

....and adjust as necessary In my experience and rigging at a Wings-overrun dropzone, the closing loop length is very particular to the type of reserve canopy and the rigger's packing style. For example, on our club rigs, I went from 100mm to about 93mm when we went from SharpChuter 245 reserves to Smarts. =========Shaun ==========

What freefly friendly container (and options) to invest in?
Unstable replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in Gear and Rigging
+1, but I think the big deal with articulation is resale value. IMHO, if I harness container fits correctly, it WILL flex at the right points, so the comfort argument I go back and fourth on. If a harness is *almost* fit just to you, then having them makes a big difference. I've had 2 new rigs fit just for me, and I can't tell a difference between articulated and non-articulated. My .02, I'd look at a Racer 2K3 from Jumpshack. Magnetic double-tuck riser covers, pins on your back, I mean, how could you get more freefly friendly than that? =========Shaun ========== -
LOL Skydive Dallas was like that with the RW crew last year when I was there - we did a Racer 8way and finding people was a piece of cake. =========Shaun ==========
-
Had a heart-to-heart with our FSDO guy about that - He was tasted to supervise DZ's and Riggers in the area and the FAA sent him to Idaho and MOntana for a year to rig up there for the smoke jumpers to learn the lingo - my point being that I believe your interpretation is similar to the FAA's... =========Shaun ==========

It's odd - here in Kansas I've only seen 1 Infinity, and it's a handsome rig. Our DZ is 70% Wings and Mirage.. Then I jump at Mesquite, and I'll I see are Infinities... Funny. Infinities are fantastic rigs. So Are Racers. My 2K3 was something like $1,100 and I cajoled Nancy into a few options, although that Spacer Foam sounds REALLY nice... =========Shaun ==========
