That used to be my motto, but now all nighters royally fu*@ me up. Okay, I've done some math here. ready? A younger person (you or I) ~ Caffeine has a half life in the blood stream of about 7 hours. At about 600mg, you start getting weird side effects ~ diarrhea, nervousness, headache, et cetera. So, if your average energy drink has, oh say 200mg, you need to be careful pulling all nighters. As an UG, I pulled an allnighter downing The "Low Carb Rockstars" @ 220 mg each. After 4 of those in the library, I remember tapping on the computer screen for 10 minutes fascinated about something. I got the paper done, but no more all nighters.... =========Shaun ==========

UGH! I've done 6 credits of gradate level statistics classes online (I loooove statistics, btw) and all the online classes I took just replaced meaningful classroom interactions with tremendous amounts of busywork and really boring lectures online. =========Shaun ==========

I'm out with an MS in May, I've been in College since 2002, and I'm still not good at this college thing. =========Shaun ==========

That is a beautiful rig. There is a guy in town with a very nice Tandem 2k3 in his closet, but I don't think he's jumped it in a year. It's such a shame.. =========Shaun ==========

Saudi Arabia urges US attack on Iran to stop nuclear programme
Unstable replied to dreamdancer's topic in Speakers Corner
I stand corrected, I meant F-14s. Didn't they take over a bunch of those? =========Shaun ========== -
I take the Amtrack out of Topeka all the time ~ South West Express can get me anywhere from St. Louis, Chicago, and down to Arizona in about the same amount of time as driving. I just walk on the train. easy. If you get your own row, you can even lay across all the seats and fall asleep. It's great. =========Shaun ==========

Saudi Arabia urges US attack on Iran to stop nuclear programme
Unstable replied to dreamdancer's topic in Speakers Corner
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Saudi take almost all of our F-16 Tomcats when the US retired them from active service, upgrade all the avionics and missile packages, and bring them into the 21st century? Why doesn't Saudi Sick those puppies in Iran ~ I'd bet they'd raise hell. =========Shaun ========== -
Our DZ (club) used tandem guys with their own rigs for years and years, it wasn't until recently that one of the TM's moved away, and we bought his rig as he took off. I used to talk to the DZO's in the area about this extensively. The general consensus is that there have been too many problems with TM's that own their own gear that simply weren't putting the $$ into taking proper care of them... =========Shaun ==========

Ok ok ok ok ok I predict Turtle. Why? Because every other post is his, so I have a 50-50 shot, right? =========Shaun ==========

Gear stolen at lodi this afternoon
Unstable replied to AndrewKarnowski's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yeah, I don't know what would be worse though, having MY gear stolen or having gear that was loaned to me. =========Shaun ========== -
I would insist that it be set to experienced mode for that canopy and jumper. I have personally repacked reserves for jumpers who have done that exact thing and had a reserve pop-out for doing a hard 180 at about 1300 feet. =========Shaun ==========

Sorry to hear that Buddy... =========Shaun ==========

I predict fcajump will post below, because we've been going back and fourth on like every other thread... =========Shaun ==========

Gear stolen at lodi this afternoon
Unstable replied to AndrewKarnowski's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's interesting ~ do a lot (or a reasonable amount) or cars get broken into at the Lodi DZ? Did anyone else's car get hit? =========Shaun ========== -
*** I've seen those the market, new models in good condition, with no lines, for about $30. I always thought it would be fun to get one, reline it for practice, and then jump it a few times. =========Shaun ==========

So I routinely cruize the Surplus Stores for vintage gear to collect and drive my wife crazy with, and at at Stop in Kansas city, I found a whole bin of very nice Chinese Manufactured seat parachutes identical to this one I found on Ebay ~ they look as if they've hardly been jumped, but the manufacturing quality was horrid: For example, the D-rings felt like they were cast from pot metal, the container itself was a thin cotton, and felt like it was entirely out of b-quality material. I'm just curious, but does anybody know anything about these Chinese seat rigs? they had them complete for $29, I didn't buy one, but I'm just very curious why the surplus market is full of these cheaply made seat parachute harnesses? *edited to upload attachment =========Shaun ==========

My Word ~ this is an interesting forum. I opened it thinking it was going to be an isolated incident and somebody trying to get some attention, but this sounds like a far cry from just one or two. I have 2 EG suites (belly and freefly) I bought from him and both were off-the-shelf a few years apart at Couch Freaks, and I was considering buying a new Wingsuite from him. Please, keep this thread posted as I would like to see how some of these conflicts resolve. Like I said, I've only had positive experiences with him, but again I bought suits off-the-shelf with minor alterations and he turned them around quickly. It sounds to me like the man has enough business to keep himself plenty busy and pay the bills, I wonder what is up... =========Shaun ==========

I certainly don't disagree with you that we (men) have to drives and desires, but I disagree strongly with your presumption that it is an excuse to act on those impulses and use that reasoning to avoid the consequences. We have a lot of desires inbodied in us that are certainly 'natural'. Marriage (or pairing up) has been in our species as long as written history, and it's not because it's what the lady folks want. I have those desires as a guy, but I choose not to act on them because I know the consequences of doing so outweigh the benefits. People are reasoning creatures, and DO have the ability to make decisions beyond our wired programing. That is why I believe you are wrong. =========Shaun ==========

:8:0 Good weekend break in Kansas City with the Fam for thanksgiving ~ we had some nasty winds and relative work that kept me on the ground, but I did do 8 repacks or repairs on rigs, which I really enjoyed. =========Shaun ==========

I'll put on my Engineering Hat here, but this is shooting from memory... I have a big Processing book here that has those charts somewhere, and IIRC, in Aluminium with that hardening process, the outer 3 layers oxidize to respective amounts and you do see hydrogen brittling ~ a slow process that will in fact very slowly weaken them.... I need to find that chart, but I think we are talking decades for a truly significant difference. =========Shaun ==========

Oh I wasn't thinking they'd blow up with age, I'm just wondering that a 10 year old Optimum and a 10 year-old PD will look like side by side, adjusting for all the other factors... . =========Shaun ==========
