I was at RWS (they are dealers) last week and they had several Vigils for their outgoing complete rigs. After getting to see one up-close, I was totally impressed. From the housing to the cables (they're made of a kevlar sheath), to the control unit. I saw a guy jump with a 24' Lo-Po round reserve, pull it first, get a hook knife and cut it away and pulled his main. That takes balls AND lack of brains. Legs should be the major factor in speed control. Relaxing also helps tremendously. The more you "grab" at the air the faster you'll tend to fall. The only time you should use arms in a headdown is when trying to do a slowdown after diving onto a formation. (then going back to a normal body position). I agree with several of the posts. First what type of jumps and what is the audience. There is a guy at my DZ that does great video editing, even puts stuff on DVDs, but his music selection is HORRIBLE, He likes polka and sad opera music. He hated the techno that I put on my video. I'll go to billboard and see what are good songs then get them from Napster.(I don't want to get sued). Okenfold has some pretty good stuff if you're into the techno. First attemp at a sit-fly jump #18. I know everbody believes that they're perfectly stable on their first attempt, I wasn't... I think you'll find everybody has a different experience with customer service. I freind of mine has had terrible time with sunpath. I have never had a problem. Also the cost issue is becoming less a factor. I recently sold a cypres with a few years left and all checks done for $300. I have seen plently in the classifieds for $300-$600. Recently I was doing a freefly jump, and the guy was flying very stable in a sit. I stayed in pretty close to him. His audibles were apparently set higher than mine as he broke off a few hundred feet before. However when he broke off instead of maintaining his speed and gaining lateral distance, he did a half back "twist-flop" so his feet came straight toward my head. Of course his leg and my head met about 10 miles a hour difference in speed. It didn't knock me out but I was definitely dazed. I was able to pull on my own but having that AAD is a good relief. With nearly 1600 freefly jumps you would think I could break off from a two-way with no incident. Point being, tell your lo-lobie friend SHIT DOES HAPPEN. When you need it you'll pay whatever it costs. BTW, my jumps 100-300 were made in the stupid mindset that I was good enough to pull dumbass! ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J. I have had my camera shut off due to mositure. (a protective feature of the camera). If you open the camera up and let it dry out it will function properly. As was said earlier, I would definitely avoid rain or large clouds, (and ponds, lakes, oceans, etc...) I know some people in humid areas use a d-box as well as a camera condom and this helps for most situations. You definitely wouldn't want to use a front riser landing if you are going to overshoot and you're going to hit something. If you do continue to overshoot, you've now built up extra speed to really hurt yourself. Typically a front riser landing should be used to build up speed to give longer swoops. By adding speed the canopy is able to generate more lift. I think adding front risers in a threatening situation would only add more problems (ie speed). Use that flat turn. d Maybe, maybe, maybe only in that last second realization that you're going to fly under powerlines should you use it, but you better be on the flare quickly so you don't break femurs, pelvis, tib/fib, etc. I saw a guy on a 175 Monarch at 1.2wl, remain on front risers until approx ten feet off the ground, and attempt to find his toggles (He let go of them) and broke both femurs and cracked his pelvis. I just sold a lens to a guy with an older Oxygen (with the button up top). I used the a new lens but I had to cut a small section out of the rubber frame to allow it to pass the button. I will be getting some R-max's from George in the near future to jump as mains in Yuma. I'll let everyone know how they fly. Most of my reserve rides have been on PD's but I've had two Raven-M rides. I'm posting this for a friend who has a PC-105 and he says anytime he faces the sun the picture goes to a purple tint. He had a PC-9, and PC-101 and didn't have the same problem. Is there a different shutter setting or balance setting that anyone is using that this doesn't happen? What are the settings for the best results? I'm switching to an R-max reserve so I'm not sure what I'll get yet. (probably a 128). I got a chance to jump some R-maxes as mains and they fly SWEET. I'm ditching my 126 and 143 for one. I'm 6'3" 195 no gear. Different Dave, probably D samson. But I'm sure you'll see me on some tower at some point. I wouldn't put it on the outside of the helmet, good chance that it will get knocked off with a good riser slap. Have you tried turning it around so the speaker faces out? That and a piece of gaffers tape over the hole, and bubble wrap should make it pretty quiet. ______________________________________________ - Does this small canopy make my balls look big? - J.
