  1. The Bible is not only a book of morals. It also gives a long historical account of the Jewish people and the Nation of Israel. The commands of the Old Testament are divided into moral, ceremonial, and civil law. The moral law (e.g. 10 Commandments) remains in effect. The ceremonial law (sacrificing 2 oxen, etc.) was fulfilled in Jesus’ sacrificial death and the New Testament teaches that it is not binding anymore. The civil law (stoning for adultery, don’t eat shellfish, etc.) was the law of the nation of Israel, which operated as a Theocracy, and is not the civil law of any other nation. One has to keep in mind that the acts which you mention as “abominations” in Leviticus aren’t necessarily the laws or commandments of God. They are of the Nation of Israel. Your statement above needs contextual refinement. You should try and really understand Christianity before you reject it. Just MHO.
  2. It's very rare at my dz but there have been a few over the years. You're right. And I jump at Moton Field in Tuskegee, AL (Opelika Skydiving Association). Where the Tuskegee Airmen of WWII were trained. You'd think there would be more. Tuskegee University is right down the road and Auburn University is only about 20min down the Interstate.
  3. I just saved a bunch of money by switching to Geico.
  4. QuoteYou cannot prove that any of these story teller are insane. Therefore all they say is true and you have to believe in EVERY ONE of these gods.Quote The notion that the authors were all insane is just one argument some people pose to reject the authenticity and reliability of some of the stories in the Bible. I was just addressing that one point. You can't reduce the entire argument to just that. There’s a lot more to it in the case for Jesus.
  5. Because the evidence does not support the notion that the authors were insane. Especially “all of them.” Sure, you could declare yourself holy. I’d have to put what you say against your works, though, to determine whether they are “of God” or not. The actions & events that took place were recorded by the people who actually saw them happen. The actions of these authors in question very much demonstrate that they are “of God.” These actions were cross-checked against others who also witnessed what happened. I don’t find it logical to think that they were all insane. This is different from someone saying that they are God, for you to drink the purple cool-aid, and to spirit yourself onto a comet to meet up with the aliens. Talk it cheap and I wouldn’t bet my life on that. Jesus put into action and demonstrated who he was. He also endorsed the ones who preceded him. The Bible was written by men who were “inspired” by God. That doesn’t mean God “told them exactly what to say.” I haven’t heard anyone here say that the Bible wasn’t “written” by men. The primary evidence for inspiration is through fulfilled prophesies (reference 1st page of posts). You’ve already made up your mind so why did you ask the question? I find the above a very “simplistic” view of a deep subject.
  6. I don't know much about this but here is an interesting (and short) article touching on that subject. Did Men and Dinosaurs Live Together? You're right. If they did co-exist, I would think it might be significant enough to write more about. However, back then, most everything was passed down by word of mouth. Recording events by writing them down was a relatively new thing. This article, however, does mention all the stone carvings/paintings which are much older than anything in the Bible and do make reference. In any case, it wasn't the Bible's purpose to record the existence of dinosaurs.
  7. Interesting. I'll check it out later. I'm out-of-town right now and will be on the road for a while. Thanks. Later, Jay
  8. I wonder if that name is taken as a "Skymonkey" name. Cool!
  9. I just don't see much difference within verses of different translations. Especially, anything important that would alter the message. I know some would disagree but I think the KJV is as good as the NIV is as good as the ASV, etc. I say whatever tool works for you, use it. Otherwise, get another tool. But use the tool. Know what I mean?...
  10. I agree. He said, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" and "Love your neighbor as yourself." (Matt. 22:37_39) He also said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me." (John 14:6)
  11. Have you read my posts above? It touches on your point. There are mistakes within the copies & translations. There's no evidence to indicate that they were put there with mal-intent. Also, none present affect the core doctrine. It also only affects an extremely small percentage of the entire text. The Bible is one of the absolute best preserved texts in history.
  12. Is anyone else depressed that they're not on the way to the WFFC right now? My Dad & Uncle left yesterday for IL. I went last year but can't this year. I'm bummed out bad... I think I'll start drinking heavily to simulate.
  13. That's an interesting take on Daniel & Revelation. Disclaimer: I'm quite sure you've studied this stuff a whole lot more than me. Just putting in my 2 cents. I'm not sure, however, that anyone can say with certainty the meaning of this metaphorical description. Maybe you’re right. Maybe you’re not. The important thing is what people do in preparation for whatever it means exactly. Cuz something bad is coming down the pipe, if you know what I mean.
  14. I really like that word... "Asshat" I want to say it again... "Asshat"... "Asshat"... "Asshat"
  15. No... People are the cause of all our problems.

  17. This says a lot. The insincerity of your question doesn't really deserve a sincere response. Your motive appears to be to try and discredit and hurt others rather than search for truth. However... The Bible claims to be the Word of God (2 Tim. 3:16) The Bible also proves itself to be the Word of God primarily through fulfilled prophesies. Old & New Testaments both point to one person, Jesus. - Born of the seed of the woman (Gen. 3:15, Matt. 1:20) - Born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14, Matt. 1:18,25) - Son of God (Psalm 2:7, Matt. 3:15) - Seed of Abraham (Gen. 22:18, Matt. 1:1) - Son of Isaac (Gen. 21:12, Luke 3:23 – 34) - House of David (Jer. 23:1, Luke 3:23 – 31) - Born at Bethlehem (Micah 5:2, Matt. 2:1) - He shall be a prophet (Deut. 18:18, Matt. 21:11) - He shall be a priest (Psalm 110:4, Heb. 3:1, Heb. 5:5 – 6) - He shall be a king (Psalm 2:6, Matt. 27:37) - He shall judge (Isaiah 33:22, John 5:30 - He would be preceded by a messenger (Isaiah 40:3, Matt. 3:1 – 2) - Rejected by his own people (Isaiah 53:3, John 7:5, John 7:48) - His side pierced (Zech. 12:10, John 19:34) - Crucifixion (Psalm 22:1, Psalm 22:11 – 18, Luke 23:33, John 19:33, John 19:23 – 24) The odds against one person fulfilling just the ones listed above are astronomical. The Bible is a collection of 66 books written by about 40 authors, over about 1600 years, on three continents, in three languages. It is very unlikely that all the books would fit together as they do, have been preserved in the manner in which they have, have been translated into as many languages as they have (rare), and have been accepted by so many across the globe for as long as they have. For starters...
  18. The teachings of many different religions contradict each other. How could they all simply be paths leading to the same destination? Does truth contradict itself? - Buddhism (Pantheism) teaches that there is no personal God and everyone can reach Godlikeness on his own - Islam teaches that Jesus was just a prophet and not the only way to God - Christianity teaches that there is a personal God and that the only way to him is through Jesus
  19. That's a biased assumption. How do you know that? The questions from that reporter were desperately attempting to twist what Bush actually said. You quoted it exactly. He never said that Intelligent Design should be taught along side Evolution and with equal "scientific" emphasis.
  20. To which "impartial" sites are you referring? I guess you'll never know.
  21. Which fundamental flaws. Just curious.
