  1. WELL... If YOU say it sucks, then it must. I stand corrected.
  2. I'm sure you could pull up a handful of negative reviews on just about anything in the world including a completely accurate book on "how to win a million dollars." I'd really suggest you read it for yourself, though. It's a good book. I think you'll find that it isn't an easy read and requires some concentration and deep thought. Here's what Amazon.com had to say about it: "Amazon.com In 1943 Great Britain, when hope and the moral fabric of society were threatened by the relentless inhumanity of global war, an Oxford don was invited to give a series of radio lectures addressing the central issues of Christianity. Over half a century after the original lectures, the topic retains it urgency. Expanded into book form, Mere Christianity never flinches as it sets out a rational basis for Christianity and builds an edifice of compassionate morality atop this foundation. As Mr. Lewis clearly demonstrates, Christianity is not a religion of flitting angels and blind faith, but of free will, an innate sense of justice and the grace of God."
  3. Man! That's as wrong as it gets.
  4. Purgatory is not biblical for several reasons: - Is not explicitly found in the Bible. - It implies that the righteousness of Christ does not cleanse from all sin. - It implies that justification is not by faith alone. - It implies that there is something we must do in order to be cleansed of sin. Most justification for it comes from extrabiblical teachings and not the Bible (e.g. Church Fathers, Apocrypha, and Biblical references to "fire & purification" which really need to be put in proper context).
  5. He backed them up with fulfilled prophesy and witnessed miracles. He foretold his own torture, crucifixion, death, and resurrection. All for a selfless purpose. Here’s one: Written approximately 1000 years before Jesus was born.
  6. Why do you believe in Jesus but not Santa Claus?
  7. Why believe in a religion that had the Inquisition and Witch Trials? "If anyone wishes to condemn Christianity because of the failures of its members, then will they also look at its successes and approve of Christianity? It would only be fair to look at the whole of Christian history and more importantly at what the Bible actually teaches, in particular the New Testament, from which Christianity is derived."
  8. yes it does http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/jim_meritt/bible-contradictions.html#beasts_in_ark How many kinds did Noah bring into the ark, two or seven?
  9. Sounds like you've got it all figured out.
  10. As tragic as this is, I say that it is still justifiable. Shit happens sometimes. They just got hit by a series of terrorist attacks. This guy acted extremely suspicious. They could not take the chance of not acting. I think it's bad to second guess these guys. We weren't there. I don't know that "right or wrong" as you put it comes into play. The cop thought he was right and was obliged to protect the many other people in that subway. The suspect acted stupid and got shot. Things can get very confusing in the split second you have to make the decision to fire or not. However, you’ve got to act. Otherwise, your guys die. This was a mistake. However, too many lives were perceived to be in danger. They couldn’t take that chance.
  11. I'll buy that. I agree. Punish the reckless offense. I don't, however, see what they're proposing as an attempt to further restrict personal freedoms, though. If it affects the safety & welfare of others, then it's not all about one's personal freedom.
  12. That all depends on when you consider personhood to begin. If one considers human life to begin before the age at which some abortions occur and certain rights such as the right to live or exist should be afforded to human beings regardless of that age, then "each and every person", as you say, is not able to make up their minds what they want to do with their own bodies. Just the mother.
  13. Having a good day are we Jay?
  14. Those cat's will scratch the hell out of you. I wouldn't face one of them down.
  15. I didn't realize you'd become a religious man, Kallend.
  16. Put up or shut up... All this on-line "I'll beat you up"..."No, I'll beat you up" garbage is pointless. Is there a real argument going on here? HAVE A NICE DAY!
  17. I was called to the scene of a car accident last week. This person was in the process of lighting a cigarette and drove the car into a ditch going around 60mph. This person continued into a driveway embankment and did a "Dukes of Hazard" over the top of it. Injuries included a broken back, broken arm and a cut & bruised up eye. He luckily didn't hit anyone else. I don't necessarily see the ban you mentioned as eliminating more personal freedoms. It kind of goes along the same lines as restrictions put on cell phones in the vehicle. There are too many people who can’t pay attention to what they are doing while driving and are a danger to others. Another reason might be to eliminate all the damn cigarette butts on the road. I think it’s ridiculous for someone to think they can just flick their nasty trash out the window…all day long…maybe a couple of packs a day…per smoker.
  18. Man! Not sure why this one got dug back up but, glancing back over it, it was a good one.
  19. Why is slavery permitted in the Bible? Also, I’ve posted this several times before but one must keep in mind the differences in the laws included in the Bible. The Bible doesn’t only contain God’s moral code to follow. It also contains a history of the Nation of Israel. The commands of the Old Testament are divided generally into moral law, ceremonial law and civil law. The moral law (e.g. the 10 commandments) remains in effect and few people would question that. The ceremonial law (sacrificing 2 oxen, etc.) was fulfilled in Jesus' sacrificial death and the New Testament teaches that it is not binding anymore. The civil law (stoning for adultery, etc.) was the law of the nation of Israel, which operated as a Theocracy, and is not the civil law of any other nation. The danger of posting a laundry list of laws that you’ve come up with to criticize the Bible is that each one of them isn’t put in their proper context. Laws of the Nation of Israel aren’t necessarily those commanded by God.
  20. How can you be so sure? When were the Gospels written and by whom?
