maybe the people above me are more knowledgeable (wait a sec, maybe!? DEFINITELY!) but my perspective is that you should do AFF, get your coach jumps, get your A, THEN hit the tunnel. That's what I plan to do and it seems like it will maximize my tunnel time, as I won't really need a coach then, but know what I have to do myself and do it. AFF isn't that hard, just concentrate, and you'll do fine, its really easy baby steps. But then again, I'm just a student, so maybe if you have cash to blow, go for the tunnel! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

Incorporating skydivingmovies.com into dz.com
andy2 replied to gus's topic in Suggestions and Feedback
I know you'd need more than a couple quid! From what I hear skydivingmovies.com was a MONSTER on bandwidth. HH might even have trouble finding the harddrive space, let alone the bandwidth --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -
when seen in freefall is just visually stunning
Ok, I get it now, I was thinking this over, it would be sorta nuts to be free flying right next to that tube. So far in my short skydiving career I have found, different = fun --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

What do your parents think of your skydiving?
andy2 replied to andy2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
btw, why does a parent's opinion matter anyway? We do what we love no matter what anybody else seems to view.
I suppose it doesn't. But, then again, my relationship is different than most 20 year olds with their parents, they've HELPED me so much the last few years, theyre more like friends, and I truly do value their opinions. Thats probably why it means more to me than normal, but I expect a lot of people secretly wish their parents approved if they don't... --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -

What do your parents think of your skydiving?
andy2 replied to andy2's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm curious to see what the responses are to this. I think it's pretty natural for parents to initially be afraid and question why their son/daughter is choosing to do something so seemingly reckless. After a few days/weeks the initial reaction seems to level off (at least it did for me). My parents were initially frightened but have come to accept it, and I think will eventually make it out to the dropzone to watch. -
not to mention the student would be getting ripped on the prices! I liked my 14k AFF jumps --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

it appears as if you cannot download these videos to your computer but only view them through their website. Tricky tricky. Or maybe I'm wrong, I am not computer "savvy". --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

hello, this will be short and painful, I've seen the discussion of the sit tube, seen video of tubes, they look fun, but what is the point? Is it just to look cool flying around in the sky and shit? Or is there a purpose that I am missing? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

correct me if I'm wrong but the ISP includes pretty extensive canopy control sections. Its just your instructors fault if he/she isn't teaching you canopy control skills. Asking questions worked for me, but then again my instructor was pretty good about talking about EVERYTHING, including canopy control. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

just hazarding a guess here but is it a full time DZ? Some DZs dont operate certain days of the week. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

When did you go to an elliptical canopy?
andy2 replied to superstu's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
doesn't sound like such a good place to demo a canopy? Especially if you can't open high. As a sidenote, do most people get semi elliptical canopies right off student status? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -
I'm sorry for asking, but what is eurosport? I live in america so naturally...is it a magazine dedicated to sports? or a tv show? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

(pour salt all over my post) my understanding was that its kinda pointless to try to get a high wingloading in BASE as youre really not trying to "swoop" in any landings at all. Youre trying to get you and your gear safely down to ground. I think the downsize frenzy in skydiving is present mainly because of the acre sized landing areas. Probably if you changed that landing area into a 10 foot landing zone, then you'd have everyone flying .7 WLs. Then again, I don't BASE jump yet, so somebody might correct me on this! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

Video on the net of 418 ft swoop??????
andy2 replied to BluDvn222's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
So you're moving with the wind? Let me try to get this straight in my head. 5 mph winds, you swoop in, once you flare all the way and touch down you will still be moving 5 mph with the wind. So going downwind your touchdown speed is the wind speed, theoretically? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -
Video on the net of 418 ft swoop??????
andy2 replied to BluDvn222's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I have a quick question. People say ah it doesnt "count" its downwind, etc. I understand this thinking. My question is how much does downwind help your swoop? A lot? Is it enough to want to swoop downwind when youre just out for the weekend messing around? I would assume the speed is a lot faster, the distance on average further, which equals more fun. So how is it, do you swoop downwind for fun? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -
or collapse the canopy if youre diving through turbulence? Would front risers make canopy collapse more likely? (not trying to hijack your question, casch!) --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

someone asked in another thread how effective the mods one can have done to a Vector 2 are for freeflying. How are they? Have you ever heard of these mods failing their job? Is this just as good as buying a new, freefly friendly container, or is it something like buying bonus time until your reserve blows up on you at 160? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
I think it's fine for you to be asking these sort of questions (it shows that you want to learn). But if your profile is correct, lay off worrying about landing with your front risers for the time being.
of course, I do like messing with fronts at altitude though, its fun to make the canopy go fast For landing though Im all business just trying to work on accuracy, naturally. I love to collect info though, that makes the day that I actually start swooping that much more fun. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

great info chuck, thanks, but can we arbitrarily say that a canopy designed for swooping is going to have lighter riser pressure than a manta 288? Those things are hard as shit to muscle down, I couldn't see holding that for more than 5+ seconds! You suggested going into deep brakes before going to fronts, is this utilizing the "surge" one experiences directly after letting up on deep brakes? How deep is deep? Almost stalled out, or like half brakes? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

Although I hate this phrase, let me just say I was playing "devil's advocate" and went along with the original cries of TROLL. I disagree with you that a troll is restricted to decieving. Case in point, a forum I used to frequent would be "trolled" by a poster repeating, "FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK" dozens of posts in a row. This is not meant to decieve, this is meant to cause a stir. Further, I think the people that first stated that this poster was a troll misinterpreted her intentions. I think given the situation, we could all chuckle over this post, I know I did, and I don't have ANY big way experience! Anyways, I'm too bored, and should probably take my original advice to "take that shit to talkback"!!! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

sidenote, as a packer do you honestly expect a tip? Or are you genuinely surprised when someone tips you? I don't have much experience with skydiving, but it seems like the payrate for packing is already good enough to not warrent a tip. Whatdya think? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

I agree, that's why I never called it a troll. I simply defined troll for you. I think the post was slightly silly, as well. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
