I thought the two stage deployment was designed so you could pull in a track, giving you the ability to hold the track longer so instead of tracking away from formation, getting into a stable arch position, then pulling, you could track away, away, away, pull right in your track. Or did I miss something there? I still dont understand how the two stage deployment thing works though --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

How is a visual not sufficient? Why do people tug on the chest strap? (an honest question, Im not saying what experienced folks do is wrong, its just that it seems like a thing that you could examine visually more accurately...) --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

they won't give them out because they want you to send it in to them only if it needs relining, etc? Or they won't give it out as in they arn't servicing batwings? Im confused. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
I bought a Stiletto some years ago when I had 39 jumps from a very large California gear store whose name rhymes with "bare fun", and the owner set up the sale as I described. I did not need any resourcefulness, just cash in hand (metaphorically speaking - it was a mail order sale). I believe anyone could have done the same.
so how has this changed since then? What I can make of it we as a society of skydivers are more willing to take risks (i.e. fly smaller canopies), but dealers are less willing to sell pocket rockets to low time jumpers. Is this correct? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

How to tell someone that they are downsizing too fast
andy2 replied to redheadskydiver's topic in Safety and Training
I think from my limited experience, usually the people that have a firm grasp of accuracy are the people that have a firm grasp of landing the canopy, etc. It works the other way around too, I think. The ones that can never land on target are usually the ones crashing in their landings. At least thats what I've seen so far --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... -
I think if youre relying on the content you get from a dz, youre probably making a big mistake.
I think you get what you ask for! I was a little nervous about jumping only a few hours after taking the FJC, but asking questions kinda solved the nervousness (well, some of it!!!). So far in my limited experience, I've found the best thing to do is search out the experienced folks that are willing to take time out of their own lives to explain really beginner things to you. Theyre out there at the DZ, well, at least at mine! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

yeah! Thats actually what got me thinking about it. Some dude had leg straps that came off completely, and I was like well, if those are open, then you might as well close off the other loop, the chest strap. Now that everyone's been talking about chest straps lately it got me thinking. Hookit, was that a manufacturer testing what you are talking about or was it just some random dude? (maybe theres not much difference between the two with some manufacturers!!! ) --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

what happens when the dude walks out into the street. You know asshole cops are going to be waiting outside looking at any hint of "intoxicated behavior". Thats reason to search, bitch! Better shoot all your shit when you go in! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

yeah ok, I thought of that a few moments after posting . I guess that would kind of make this not feasible. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

Maybe this idea has been thought of before (probably). But would it be too hard to sew the END of the chest strap to the point where the chest strap originally connects, permanently routed. That way when you put on your rig, youd pick it up, slip your head under the chest strap, put on the rig, then you'd have to step into the leg straps standing up. Then tighten the chest strap to where you like it, s fold the excess chest strap, and lock it down. The only problem I see is that getting on your rig would be a little more awkward at first, especially if you cant get into your leg straps with the rig on your back, standing up (read not flexible!). What do you think? Is there an inherent problem I am not realizing here? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

thats true, but what he said made a lot of sense to me when I read it. Granted it was one of those things that you had to read a couple times to fully comprehend it Do you think hes wrong in this case? For me personally, I think its neither here nor there, as I am at as high a WL as I feel safe, and would neither downsize, nor upsize based on how turbulence effects my WL. I'll just live with it (hopefully) --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

holy shit, schweeeeet! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
I think that that's backwards... smaller wings penetrate more and "cut" through the turbulence. How you fly your canopy has a lot to do with how change in wind will effect it.
Billvon has a lot to say about this. Looks like we're both right. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=458267;search_string=turbulence;#458267 --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

I seriously dont understand how someone can route a chest strap wrong? I guess I can fathom how someone can FORGET to route their chest strap at all. But I mean, wouldnt the chest strap buckle look pretty damn weird with it misrouted? How could he/she NOT CATCH THAT MISTAKE! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
