I am indeed criticising the US for its terrible (not mediocre) response. I'm not criticising it for its plan, and why does it matter? "It's the thought that counts"? Do you want points for the plan?
-
But that wasn't what you said. So you were lying? Okayyyy...you should probably take your meds, and try not to shoot up any mosques like that guy in New Zealand did. Remember to smile for the surveillance cameras!
-
So you're okay with other types of misogyny like rape, as long as female genitals aren't cut. I get it, there is a lot wrong with the ME. They have a huge problem with radicalism, ignorance and prejudice. One of the good things about renewables is that it will hasten their decline. But you have to be against misogyny, ignorance and radicalism everywhere not just that particular area. And the most visible example of that is in the White House. But with your blatant lie about the mosques in Edinburgh, I don't think you have much integrity anyway.
-
Fair. But ignorance, radicalism, misogyny and misanthropy are only okay if it's white americans doing it. Lying too, like your lie about mosques in Edinburgh.
-
...unbelievably, that STILL seems to be the plan now. wtf...
-
And he's also blatantly lying about how much he knows about the ME. If he had any clue he wouldn't have had linked FGM to the religion.
-
Because of the US Constitution? Ask your government to change it. Yes, there is a lot wrong with Islamic countries. But the real reason you hate them, is because you have a LOT in common with them. Trump is accused of all of those. If you don't like it in ME countries, why do you accept it in the US government?
-
Also: Almost every single athlete who goes to the Olympics plans to get a gold medal. Every company founder plans to be the next Apple. But when 90,000 people are dead, what you planned is a lot less important than your execution.
-
Sigh...I was NOT criticising the PLAN at all, because I'm not a mind reader, and I don't make stuff up like you do. New Zealand and South Korea have approached this quite differently, but you know what they have in common? They both managed to control the outbreak, they managed to keep their deaths down to very low. Why shouldn't anyone applaud their performance? Do you know what else they have in common? The comparisons are meaningful, because the US has a leader who is saying "it's just the flu", "it will magically disappear" (which he is STILL saying believe it or not) and has now decided to ignore the rising death toll to focus on Obamagate. As I've told other posters before, the US is the best* country in the world! *As long as you don't compare it to other countries.

I said New Zealand had ended their lockdown, how would they end their lockdown if they were never locked down? So the point you were trying to make is made up? Edit: proof of what I said:
-
Go ahead, find my post which says this.
-
So now you're just cherry picking what I said. I literally just argued it was NOT just contact tracing. You only got frustrated because I caught you out several times making shit up, and you had nothing in terms of proof. If you accuse me of being inconsistent, you need to be consistent and have proof. Not make things up.
-
Again, I did not say that. What I said is lockdowns aren't needed if a country managed to control the outbreak early. Or, if it *had* to lock down, the lockdown could have been shorter if the outbreak was smaller to begin with. How could it have been smaller? If it was taken seriously and responded to quickly in the first place. I really don't know how this isn't getting to you. What's your background expertise? Maybe I can explain things better.
-
Because you can't argue effectively if you make shit up about what I say. I am, but you're muddying the argument by making shit up. In no way did I say they relied on it alone. You're edging close to making stuff up again. You can combine manual contact tracing with whatever strategies you have available like selective lockdowns, travel restrictions, quarantine and of course, mass testing. All you need, really, is a government that takes it seriously and responds quickly to the outbreak. That's what the sucessful countries have in common. And that's what the currently unsuccessful countries, like the US and UK, lack.
-
And seriously, stop making things up about what I said. Quote me directly.
-
Several countries managed to do manual contact tracing. New Zealand, South Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan and even Mongolia(!) managed to do it. You seem to have a poor grasp of mathematics and exponential functions. If you do it QUICKLY at the start of the outbreak, you can keep the numbers low and your contact tracers aren't overwhelmed, then you can keep the economy open. Once untracked infections reach a certain number, the slope will become too high and lockdown will become necessary. So yes contact tracing is pretty much impossible for the US now...because, guess what Trump was doing at the start of the outbreak? When you get the numbers low enough again, you can restart contact tracing and reopen the economy. Guess what are the numbers now? (hint: 23,000 infections, 1,200+ deaths yesterday) So no, the US and Europe haven't demonstrated it was impossible to do contact tracing, all they did was what would happen if you react too slowly.
-
Go ahead and find where I was actually saying that. I've been very consistent. Stop making stuff up that I supposedly said.
-
How about the second bit - So where are the mosque holiday photos?
-
I started with comparing to South Korea, a highly industrialised, urbanised, and democratic country of 51 million people. Should I go back to that or are you just running out of excuses?
-
So you have to completely fabricate what I might say, because you don't really have an argument? New Zealand has reopened, people are having haircuts, going to restaurants, but travel bans remain. I tried to ask the lefties here if anyone had any complaints about that, nothing.
-
So when you close your borders, you also HAVE to shut down? You can't have one without the other?
-
Link to what I said then? I was talking about New Zealand's travel restrictions. Travel restrictions are NOT shutdowns. And by the way, New Zealand has reopened. You're the one confused and inconsistent.
-
I'm not Phil. I'm all for opening back up again, IF and ONLY IF you have the contact tracing and testing in place. Is it?
-
Taiwan and South Korea didn't lock down, yet they still managed to control the virus. Very few jobs lost over there. But giving up seems to be the American way now.
-
I happened to know a bit about how PCR tests work, so why is that peculiar? That wasn't the original skepticism. The original skepticism was just "they're LYING because they're China" and not much reasoning behind it. Skepticism needs to be justified rather than simply based on emotion. Unless you're trying to identify something about my motivations or looking for an ad hominem argument...are you?
