That wasn't what I asked for. I had to google that and even as a left-leaning person I don't agree with what came up. Covid-19 is contagious - if you're next to a person who has it, you can get it because virus-laden particles get in the air or on surfaces. I've been living next door to a muslim family for years, and have had zero desire to convert to Islam. I think your assertion that socialism is a contagious disease is also rather overreacting.
-
That's great. And if it gets out of control the Oregon government has options available, and if it escalates further the Federal government (and um...Trump) can step in. But unless socialism and islam has mind-control devices included, they will spread only as quickly as any other ideology spreads.
-
How? Like how homosexuality is contagious? If you say bullshit like this please back it up with: a causal mechanism on how it's contagious evidence, preferably peer-reviewed
-
But it hasn't, yet.

Are you personally affected by the events in Seattle? If not, then take a deep breath, have a nice cup of tea, maybe take a walk outside if the weather is nice, and chill. It's a lot better than wishing for a civil war, I highly recommend it.

This is about as credible as your claim that there are no churches in Edinburgh any more and it's being overrun by mosques. You should probably check if your tin-foil hat contains lead, it might be leaching out. Edit: Joking aside, I am indeed taking you seriously, in that you are a potential terrorist e.g. shooting up mosques or peaceful demonstrations. You're a very scared man, scared of both muslims and so-called communists, and I highly suggest you seek professional help with your mental health.

Nothing about this is a protest. (NSFW Racial Expletives)

Turtle, have you watched the video of Floyd's death? All 9 minutes of it? -
Except for the last sentence, the rest of the paragraph was a statement of fact where the weapons came from. The last sentence could be interpreted as a black humour more than an actual direct blaming of the US. He did not directly say in any way that "the mass murders were BECAUSE of the US". Do I sound like Turtle yet?

National protests against Minneapolis police murderers?
olofscience replied to normiss's topic in Speakers Corner
Since you don't seem to get it...here's the main argument in the article against that: It's an entire section in the article, and there's also the actual research paper: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41562-017-0211-5 -
National protests against Minneapolis police murderers?

Again...this exact point is also discussed in the article. Reading highly recommended. -
National protests against Minneapolis police murderers?
olofscience replied to normiss's topic in Speakers Corner
I highly suggest you read the article. That's almost exactly what they tried in 2014. The main difference now is that they want to redirect more funds to community programmes and social support rather than policing. -
National protests against Minneapolis police murderers?
olofscience replied to normiss's topic in Speakers Corner
In 2014, following the death of Eric Garner, New York police staged a "slowdown" to protest against the criticism. They thought that by doing policing to the bare minimum, the crime rate would be so high that people would beg them back to the streets. So what happened? The exact reason for this drop is complicated, but in the end, it did not have the effect they thought it would. Full article here: https://arstechnica.com/science/2017/09/nyc-cops-did-a-work-stop-yet-crime-dropped/ -
Well, the subject-predicate structure of his sentence was jumbled, and taken at face value you are correct. If some words are inserted (and I am being very hypothetical here), then the sentence could be fixed. Anyways, only Turtle can confirm or deny this. Actually I concur with Billvon, I have NO idea what this statement means. Could you clarify?
-
No, I don't think he does. I had to read it twice because it wasn't very clear. I think he meant he's currently consuming material from famous authors, like Jack London or Ernest Hemingway. Maybe English isn't his first language?
-
Did I miss something? Hemingway's level is 7.1, i.e. 7th Grade. Trump's level is 5th-6th (5.3 as posted by Ryoder). You haven't posted the instance you found where Trump's score was better than Hemingway's. Also, a lot of science deals with statistics and probability, not absolutes, so as you might have already recognised you're doing what a certain poster is doing with regards to climate change. I don't use science to get gotcha moments, I use it to educate myself and others. Being a computer tool, the ATOS tool can, in the correct setting, give us data more free of bias and partisanship than any human source. As a self-declared centrist I would have thought you were supportive of that. But are you really a centrist?

How about some good news for a change!!
olofscience replied to turtlespeed's topic in Speakers Corner
One thing that's not really news, but when the lockdown started, was the stunning effect of the lockdown on local air quality: https://edition.cnn.com/travel/article/himalayas-visible-lockdown-india-scli-intl/index.html The Himalayas became visible from northern India for the first time in about 30 years. Similar reports from cities such as Sao Paulo, Manila. Unfortunately air quality in China is getting back to pre-lockdown levels. -

olofscience replied to turtlespeed's topic in Speakers Corner
Well, this has restored at least some respect I had. I'll let this get back to the good news thread. -

That's what you did in the other thread. Good play. -

Wow that joke really got to you, huh? Germany was fascist at the time, so people against them were...? -

Ryoder's post was a joke. I guess I just didn't find yours funny, as false evidence in these times can get people seriously hurt or killed. It's like as if I posted a photo of ISIS fighters and said they were a photo of the muslim family next door. I could say it's a joke, but not very funny if they were innocent and then got turned into a smoking crater. -

No, I would ask for independent validation of your claim. I wouldn't post a random photo of the US Army in Afghanistan and claim that they're the ones in DC which hasn't been verified yet. -
How about some good news for a change!!
olofscience replied to turtlespeed's topic in Speakers Corner
But it's not a verified allegation, so you appear to be offering evidence to back up his claim. -

<facepalm> If you don't know the specifics of the protest Ron was talking about, please just don't say anything. -

Are they the exact people Ron was talking about? -
In summary, the background to Turtle's argument is: L: "we want to abolish the 2nd Amendment (and keep the others)" R: "The constitution is inviolable, no" L: "1st amendment rights are being violated, why aren't you complaining then? You're being inconsistent" Turtle: "This is so wrong. If L wants to abolish the 2nd Amendment, all other amendments should be fair game and they should accept that people will fight against the 1st Amendment. You can't have it one way, but not the other." Turtle's argument is off topic, nobody's mentioned anything about abolishing the 1st Amendment, and in fact conservatives are VERY pro 1st Amendment too. But only when it's in their interest.
