  1. Here's a few things you can do to educate yourself before the next election: Read the minutes of the most recent board meeting. See who made which motions, who voted for them or against them. Go to the summer BOD meeting and see them in action for yourself. Talk to people who have been to the meetings. Talk to your RD. You can't just create a black list of the entire board and vote them out because you haven't taken the initiative to find out anything about them as individuals.
  2. With all due respect, this is an incorrect assumption, and in saying so, you have revealed that you may not understand the male mind. You may be right. But I just can't think of too many men who are genuinely in love, but don't say it. Especially when he knows his SO would like to hear it.. as in the OP's case.
  3. Generalizing the personalities of the entire board in to one self-serving machine is a very sad misconception. There are many members of the board who work very hard for the sport and the general membership. Having just attended the BOD meeting, its quite obvious to me which board members have more interest in power and politics than they do for the sport. I guarantee its not the majority of the ND's and RD's. As for the balloting issue, its still on the table. The N&E committee is charged with making a recommendation. Naturally, people in elected positions are going to have concerns about getting re-elected when the election process changes. But it was quite obvious that the greater concern was getting more members to vote, while providing us with a way to do so and have accurate results. We really need to stop this witch hunt and just pay more attention. Actions speak louder.
  4. Sorry.. I'm a girl. (But a very atypical girl, ask any of the guys ). You're saying that you want everything to stay the same except you want to be loved. So really, you're asking for change. You can't deny that the "I love you" phase is taking a step. If he's not saying it, he doesn't feel it. You want to say it, so you obviously feel it. Or you think you do. So you're just not on the same page. The good news is that eventually something *will* change. But what...?
  5. In all fairness.. the BOD has not voted on that yet. But I agree.. IF it needs to be done, it will. Now is the time to write to the N&E committee and your Regional Director to voice your opinion.
  6. Skydive The Farm has a dedicated canopy coach for all levels (Ian Drennan.. hes SA but he's OK. ). Normally one aircraft flies back to back loads with no problems for hop n pops. Seperate hp landing area, big enough to swoop the pond or the dirt. Ian is the mainstay canopy coach, but any of the local talent will work with you. I think the separation of the landing areas is one of the best features of the dz. Look at aerial view one and aerial zoomed on this link: http://ts.realtourvision.com/tour/BU/tour.view.new.php?utl=BU-6935-4PG3DX-01 www.skydivethefarm.com
  7. I'm really glad to hear you say this! I was going to talk you in to it, if you hadn't decided on your own. I haven't posted my own thoughts on the meeting, mostly because you, Krisanne, and Laura have already said what I would have said. I only knew the majority of the board by reputation before attending these meetings. My perspective has completely changed, in some cases.. and has been "enlightened" in others. The meetings were very interesting. I didn't go with an agenda. I went with an open mind and a desire to learn how the BOD affects the operations of the USPA, which affects the operations of DZ, and essentially regulates when, where, and how I am granted the priviledge of participating in this sport. I intend to stay in this sport, so I intend to stay involved, and become further involved as my experience grows. If anyone wants to talk to me in more detail about my opinions, I'll be happy to. Otherwise, I'll be talking to a LOT of you as the elections get closer.
  8. That looks yummy.. only tip I have is to make sure your steaks are not fresh out of the fridge on to heat. They need to get closer to room temp or the meat will be tough. So just set them on the counter for about 20 min, unwrapped. Good luck! Fillet is yummy but a little hard to judge the wellness. I usually cheat and cut in to mine a little to make sure its cooked to almost medium.
  9. Sounds like its your turn to cook! When are you coming over?
  10. Hey if you take yourself out to dinner tonight, don't forget your wallet.
  11. Simple answer to that is insurance. When she was accepted in to the rehab hosptial, she was pre-certed for 10 days. Insurance wont pay for her to be there longer than that, for this admission anyway. If shes not well enough to go home after 10 days, odds are, her MD will re-admit her to the hospital, where they can go through the whole process of putting her back in rehab again. Don't worry so much about that part. She wont be sent home until shes out of the woods. Hope she gets well soon.
  12. Hi Mum! Lee posed for this photo so I could post it on a thread. I dont remember why.. but it was funny at the time.
  13. I dont think you sound silly. Sounds like you know what you saw and took it for what its worth. Nothing wrong with that.
  14. Just wanted to quote you on that. Had I had nothing out when I had my Cypress fire, I would have never jumped again. You didn't have enough out to keep your cypres from firing. Anyway.. not going to turn this thread in to a cypres thread. There's plenty of those. I dont carry my cell when I jump. Mostly because its more like a PDA and it would break. But as I told Laura last night, its good to know she has hers on her. If I see her land off, I can just call her and find out if shes ok rather than worry until we find her.
  15. We wondered what happened to you. Glad to meet you! It was fun hanging out on Friday!
  16. He did a little bit when he was the only guy on a jump with six ladies. Unless you count the video guy.
  17. We had an awesome time jumping with you! Thanks for organzing my 500th!
  18. Dude, I've jumped with you-do you really call that skydiving
  19. Ok, I understand that. And thanks for posting your opinion on it.
  20. Since you're talking about me, J, I will be happy to answer your question. I think this is the third time I've said it. It has nothing to do with being "elitist". It has to do with the noise level here, and how its become increasingly difficult to use this site to make friends with people you might actually meet at a drop zone and skydive with. The question used to be when you talked to someone new, "where do you jump?. Now its just "DO you jump?". And thats fine. I never said this site should only be current jumpers. But lately theres been a lot more noise from the whuffo crowd. I've noticed a lot of old school people quit posting because of it. If I quit drinking wine, I would certainly stop posting on the wine enthusiasts forums and stop trying to be a part of that community. The friends I'd already made, I'd keep in touch with by phone, email, myspace, facebook, etc. Thats my opinion, plain and simple. If you need a whole line of people to disagree with me to make yourself feel better... then have a good time with that.
  21. DeeDee.. I'm not picking on you here, but I am responding to you and to others who share your opinion to help me understand... if you have never jumped, don't jump anymore, don't participate in the community outside of this website... why do you want to be here? Theres so much noise on these forums, its driving away people who DO skydive and DO participate and look to expand their skydiving community, which is what this site was designed for. I've never ever said "I'm better than you and you should leave". All I've done is question why people who dont skydive, post on skydiving forums. But I guess the truth of that answer hits a little too close for comfort for some. I dont feel a need to elaborate on that. Anyway.. my opinions.. your opinions.. we're all entitled. If you like it here, stay here. Just be aware, as Sangiro said, of how much noise you're making.. skydiver or not.
  22. Theres not a whole lot of anything right around the airport.. (unless things have changed really recently). But its only about 20-30 min from downtown/St. David's hospital. Might do better to find a doc there who takes your insurance. Or if youre not insured, google search for a walk in clinic in South Austin. You speak Spanish, right? Sorry about your ears.. ear pain sucks.
