  1. My girlfriend of two years is pretty supportive... she's done two tandems and says she would love to do AFF but can't afford it The only problem is that she almost always wants to come to the DZ with me, and then she gets irritated that I don't pay enough attention to her and that I want to stay all day. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. 3. I've been wondering... will a parachute open in shorter vertical distance if you do a hop & pop, or if you pull terminal? I've noticed that generally no one pulls below 2500 feet, but i've heard some people mention they have done hop and pops from 2k. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. 4. Maan i LOVE the onion, i read it religously every Tuesday night. (I'm getting mad at those new javascript popups though) I have too many favorites to begin posting though. I'll just post one:http://www.theonion.com/onion3622/clinton_week_off.html __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.

  7. I've been thinking about it, and maybe the reason you only have 15 seconds of conciousness is not only because of the hypoxia but the low air pressure? __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.
  8. I was wondering how, as gemini said, you can go unconcious at 40,000 feet in 15 seconds, when a person could hold their breath for that long (and get NO oxygen) without passing out? __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.

    Terminator 3

I know it's been replied to already, but some of the code that I am working on (right now in fact) is supposed to do just that - be able to change the way it works based on what the other software around it is doing. Yes it is programmed to do this, but the idea is for it to be able to "think" on its own. There is also buggy code - most of the time when software crashes, it wasn't actually programmed to do that... The code you are working on still follows specific commands you are giving it,right? Has it ever done anything you haven't programmed it to do? For a computer to be "artificially intelligent" it would need to be able to do things that no human told it to do. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Terminator 3

Radical? be careful... The plot is based on the very real, but future possibility that the machines we build will one day become self aware and take over. Computers and machines can never do anything they have not been programmed to do. This does not leave out the possibility of some nutcase programming a machine to kill people and try to take over the world. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. 11. If you go to the Performance Designs website, the name of the picture with the new canopy's logo on it is "xhsoon.jpg" What does XH stand for? Could this be a clue? __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.
  12. I tried a Mr. Bill with a friend of mine today... we stood on the step facing each other with our sides facing into the wind. He took grips on me right below my 3-rings, and i held the ring on the top of his leg strap and jumped but our exit got a little screwed and I didn't pull for about two seconds. He almost held it, just that last jerk of the otheriwise soft opening (sabre 2 210) threw him off.It also freaked me out when i thought i saw a free bag floating below me, it was actually a white balloon some kid let go of Anyone have a better way to do a mister bill out of a cessna? __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. 13. Our college skydiving club always does demo jumps onto a large field at the beginning of every school year. This field is very close to 500,000 square feet, and so could be considered "open field." I have noticed that for less than 500,000 square feet requires a D liscense, and for over 500,000 ft a D liscense is only recommended. How hard is it to get the notam for C liscensed jumpers doing demos into an open field, and with the new liscense requirements needing 200 jumps for a C, will it still require/recommend a D liscense for demo jumps, open field or not? __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. 17. Repeat after me: The Weatherman Lies. The Weatherman Lies. The Weatherman Lies. Don't believe him. He is a fool. He is wrong more than he is right. I HATE the weatherman. The weatherman causes people to not go to the dropzone, then when the weather is nice there are not enough ppl to get loads up. i HATE the weatherman. The weatherman exaggerates the weather so you have to keep coming back to check the weather! If he said the weather was good, no one would come back and listen to him! He just wants attention. Don't give it to him. STOP watching or listening to the weatherman. Just because they forecast something bad doesn't mean you can't skydive! When they forecasted thunderstorms for 10 days straight last week the weather was decent and jumpable for most of the days. It might have a couple minutes of thunder but you can skydive before and after that! __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.
  18. According to USPA, yes, any time you leave an airplane in the air intending to use a parachute for any amount of time does count as a skydive. I think "United States Skydiving Association" doesn't have quite an authorative tone to it like USPA does, but changing it would avoid whuffo questions like "What is USPA? Is that a company that makes parachutes?" __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.

  21. People need to realize that your odds of dying are not dependent on what people have done in the past. They are not dependent on what everyone else in the world is doing. They are dependent on what you are doing for this jump. Your odds are dependent on, among other things, 1. weather 2. proper packing (by you and your rigger) 3. what kind of crazy maneuvers you are pulling vs. your experience level 4. gear, inspection, proper use 5. your reaction to malfunctions and bad situations 6. the people you are jumping around The only ones that a jumper can not alter are the weather and the people around you, and if either disturb you, it is your responsibilty to control yourself and not jump. It is true that risk can not be eliminated, but by looking at the fatality roundup in Parachutist a couple months ago, it is apparent that most of the reasons people are dying are preventable ones. You can't get too comfortable skydiving... you have to maintain a certain fear and respect for the margin of error skydiving gives you. __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. 22. I have about 65 jumps total and 25 or so on my sabre 190. I am getting pretty comfortable but am looking for some more stuff to do besides riser dives and spirals. What can I do to increase my skills safely? I am looking for some stepping stones for long before I try anything dangerous(hook turns), and I dont know how to go about improving my canopy skills. What can I do given the canopy I have and my skill/experience level?
  23. I am looking to start packing to support my ever-expensive skydiving habit. I am comfortable packing my Sabre plus sabre2s, and am confident with my openings on these. I have about 60 jumps. Does anyone have any tips or words of wisdom? How do I get people to become confident in my pack jobs? __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.

  25. I saw that when i toured Sunpath a couple weeks ago. According to the tour guide, its definitely not jumpable, but i'm not sure whether its because of the plastic material or the glued flaps __________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks.
