That describes the DZ I started jumping at. Having started there, I made the mistake of thinking every other DZ would do the same thing. I had jumped at another DZ for almost 2 years. Every time I owed money I would faithfully square up. I thought that would prove I was trustworthy, but I guess not. To this day, they still make me leave a credit card until I settle up. On top of that, they won't let me carry a balance from Friday to Sunday. They make me square up at the end of every jump day. This gets annoying when I pay by debit card and I have to make 3 entries into my check book every weekend I jump when I could just be making 1 on Sunday. Anyway, if you didn't get a discount on your cash when you put it down, you'd ought to be able to get it all back in cash. That's BS that they wouldn't give it back to you. Especially if they never told you this policy up front AND told you over the phone "Come on in and get it." I can see why you're not jumping at that DZ any more. Hopefully the management will realize they have lost potential revenue and will alter future practices to accommodate.... Unless they've just become a tandem factory and are just going to cater to tandems..... "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."

Stratostar did you "even try" to read the post? All those methods you mentioned would attach via the thumbscrew in the bottom, blocking removal of a bottom-loaded tape. Got any other bright ideas? Sooooo maybe in retrospect- 200 jumps and jumping camera already: perhaps a bit early?? Not to mention with a wing that's too big. Has this incident made you think about possibly hanging up the camera helmet until you get some more experience? Maybe at the least getting a smaller wing for your camera suit? Also, having the suit inspected AFTER the fact? This is one of the things you should have been thinking about BEFORE this type of thing happened. I'm glad you're alive and here to tell your tale. Now let's all take away some lessons from it. Someone should have seen your suit and said "Hmmm. Maybe that's not the best 1st suit for you. I seriously hope you're joking. Aviation has been around for 100 years and some change and BASH (Bird Air Strike Hazard) is still one of the biggest causes of mishaps. It's an ongoing battle. It's just not that easy. The fact of the matter is that birds hurt aircraft, space shuttle or otherwise. "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."

Yeah they're doing an outdoor adventure sports week or something to that effect. Yesterday Pat said he would love to jump but doesn't think he could get up the nerve to go out the door and someone would have to push him. Yeah I'm a little confused as to why you would WANT to hang your rig for a long time. They're typically hung at the DZ to get them out of the way. Maybe it's just the anal retentive side in me but does anyone else cringe when they hear whuffos asking about getting "certified" to skydive? I don't know of USPA offering any "certifications" but I know they offer 4 licenses. There are also a number of ratings, but no certifications. I'm sorry, but that's complete and utter bullshit. The job of these people IS to answer questions like that. If ALL of the instructors at your DZ are too busy to help a student with basic license requirements, how are they going to help you with more advanced topics?? And oh BTW, your job as a student is to ask as many questions as you can. Learn everything. I still consider myself a student. You never stop learning. Be "that guy" that's always bugging people for more info. The day you stop learning is the day you die. Well, it certainly LOOKS nice. I'm just curious if you have a way to take the camera out without taking out all of the padding. Are you going to hinge the camera box and add a door? Also, how do you propose adjusting the sighting? I can't imagine it just happens to be sighted perfectly on the first try. All-in-all, a nice looking helmet though.
