  1. If this happened to you would you not take .5 seconds to see if it was your cutaway handle? Or would you just immediately assume it was yours and go straight to silver? Let's say you were at a meeting and you saw a cell phone on the ground. Would you check your pocket first to see if you lost yours? Or would you just go straight to the store and buy a new one? I don't think a joke like the OP would cost anyone money. "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  2. Imagine this: You're on a jump with a few buddies. The exit funnels. You look over a few seconds later at your friend. He is holding a cutaway cable and pointing at you with wide eyes. You can see his cutaway handle is where it's supposed to be. You assume he somehow accidentally pulled your cutaway handle during the melee and you freak out. Later on, after realizing everyone's cutaway handles are where they're supposed to be, you realize he brought an extra cutaway cable just to trick you. Is this funny? This is all just hypothetical. It hasn't happened to anybody I know......yet. "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  3. Moderators- Please get your policies straight. Specifically SkyMama. I put up this exact same post a year ago only substitute collegiates with TSL. My post got removed as advertising. How is this different? Please be consistent. "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  4. I sent an email to the competition department at USPA and I got an email back from Larry Bagley saying to contact the DZ (Lake Wales). Apparently the DZ is in charge of the video pool. Best of luck to you and also to any competitors going to collegiates (especially those from Ohio State). "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  5. I don't particularly agree with all of what is said in this thread. Actually, you could say I disagree with a good deal of it. Definitely do the first stuff skybytch talked about: get and read the SIM, read the canopy control books, start looking at gear, and be sure to plan everything thoroughly. After this is where I disagree. If you are going to do solos and work on canopy control, just get out and pull right away. This would count as hop and pops anyways. There is no reason to "practice turns" by yourself until 8000'. You'll have no reference to know if you are back or front sliding, or if your center point turns are indeed about your center point. If you plan on working on RW (which by the way means relative work) you should have someone else to jump relative to. I don't encourage a bunch of solos for those who are just off of student status. Get with somebody more experienced than you (I.E. coach or instructor) and do some 2 ways. Don't just "get the two "coach" jumps done. " There's no reason you can't do the two "coach" jumps more than once. They are about level control, swooping and docking and tracking. These are skills you'll need on every jump from now on. They are not to just be glossed over and "just gotten done." Also, don't just "Do the required hop and pops." Understanding how to leave the plane stable from the moment you release is very important. Also, hop and pops tend to be cheaper, so why not do a few of them? I guess my point is that I hate seeing new jumpers jumping alone and I really don't advocate a whole lot of solos for new jumpers. Maybe just 1 or 2. Other than that, do the other stuff: learn how to pack, hang out at the DZ, do the check dive, take the test and get that card stamped. Best of luck to you. 7. Bunk up? Are you talking about splitting a hotel? "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  8. Good luck, brother. "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  9. I'm trying to contact Juliana Se, Fabian Raidel or Joao Tambor. If anyone has any contact info for them please PM me. Thanks!
  10. I had a similar situation. I lost a component and went ahead and bought a replacement off of Sony. I later found out I could have gotten a package with about 10-20 other components on Ebay for about half the price. Ebay is great! "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  11. Emerald Coast without a doubt!!! Great DZ. Be sure to get a beach jump. "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  12. What is it? Where is it? "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  13. Are any of those Casa loads going to "magically" disappear again? "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  14. Slug I read the thread before. I know the guy that wrote it. Don't think this is a case of knock-it-before-you-try-it. Of my 700 jumps I have about 30 from a 182 and 50 more from a Porter. While 182 DZs may have some ups, I personally prefer a turbine DZ. Especially if it's the same price for a longer freefall with a quicker climb. I'll most likely swing by St. Mary's at some point. Don't expect to see me there every weekend though (until they get a turbine). It's just a matter of personal preference. "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  15. So you're a pot smoker and you're advertising it amongst a group of people who participate in a sport that requires concentration, dexterity, ability to make decisions in a split second and responsibility for the life of yourself and others around you. You're cool. When can I jump with you? "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  16. It's a 182 So, you're saying I can pay $22 to go to 10,500' in 45 minutes? I'm packing my bags and heading out right now! "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  17. What A/C are you jumping there? I searched the website and couldn't find anything. "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  18. What about when people think they are sounding all sophisticated using the wrong form of "I" or "me"? "He invited Dan and I on the 4 way..." No, would you ever say "He invited I on the 4 way...?" I don't think so!!! "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  19. I swear this is what my receipt from the grocery store says! I didn't know you could buy this at H.E.B. "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  20. Someone's going to have to teach me how to make the file size smaller without cropping so much of the picture out. I put it to save on the lowest size file possible and it's still almost impossible to get it under 120 kb. "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  21. There is usually always beer... Well, which is it? Usually or always? Does not usually by definition mean NOT always? "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."

    "PM Sent"

Yeah I figured it may have been discussed before. It would be impossible to get a good search on the text "PM sent". I'm sure there would be hundreds of hits because of how many times people say "PM sent". "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."

    "PM Sent"

Why do people feel the need to respond to a post with just the words "PM Sent"? Do you feel special telling us that you sent a PM. How does that post affect us? "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  24. IMHO I don't think it makes a good fun jumper plane. Maybe for tandem factories it would be ideal. Let me preface my review by saying that I'm spoiled on Otters. The door is substantially shorter than an Otter or Caravan. When I jumped it, the loads were full or nearly so (15-17). At that loading, there is not a lot of room. Shit, who am I kidding? I felt like a sardine! Also, the climb rate was not as good as everyone raved. It took about as long as any other Caravan I have jumped to get to full altitude. Seems like the climb rate really tapered off above 9k or so. From the viewpoint of a vidiot trying to film RW, I can think of many other planes I would rather jump. There is *no* video step. It's merely a small extension of the main step. With arms stretched fully you can only get a few feet from the group. Does anyone know if there are Pacs out there flying with a seperate step? Is it a W&B issue or something? If you're currently a 182 DZ and you can fly this plane (with tandems mostly) with less than 10 people on it, it would prolly be a good plane for you. Otherwise, I don't see what all the hype is about. "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  25. How come Voodew and Ted at SSM/Salado don't charge for wingsuit FJC and use? Have they started to as well, or did they just hook me up with a deal? "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
