  1. I just got settled in to API (the first of many steps in becoming a Naval Aviator) down here in Florida. I came from crappy-weather Ohio to a place where it is sunny and over 70 every day. I got one weekend of jumping in and had a blast at what I thought was going to me my new home DZ. Well, the powers that be have this policy: any time you get on an airplane you have to take leave, regardless of the mileage traveled. So I went to talk to the guy in charge about that and see if it applies to skydiving. He told me not to skydive. I quote, "We pay you good money to stay in the airplane." So I'm here for roughly another 3-4 months in great weather with nothing to do right now and I'm not "allowed" to skydive. I would like to hear from others in the military about your command's policy on jumping. P. S. I think it's funny that when I ran a spell check on this, it didn't recognize the words DZ, skydive, or skydiving. Kinda funny, eh. "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  2. Yeah they warned me about a volleyball net and I saw the posts. I steered away from it, but it turns out I didn't need to cuz they had taken down the net. The Flora-bama is an awesome bar, and if you ever come down to do a beach jump you have to get a weedwhacker. If you don't know what it is, you'll soon find out. 3. So I moved down here to Pensacola, Florida for flight school. I got all settled in and then last weekend I went up to Skydive Emerald Coast. It's a great DZ, first off. However, the highlight of my weekend had to be the jump onto the beach at the Florida/Alabama border. The sunset and the sand were just marvelous. If you ever get a chance to come down and visit you should. Check out the pix! These and more are available at this page "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  4. Oxygen is an issue. Also there is the whole problem of other aircraft liking to use the skies. When you start getting up in the jet's neighborhood, you have to watch out for them in freefall. Freefall drift becomes greater as you are falling for a longer amount of time. Higher altitude means more fuel to get there; hence more costs. Also, if the plane takes forever to get to altitude, others who are not on the load have to wait for it to get back and hence the DZ gets less loads in. Those are a few of the reasons why high altitude jumps are not an every day occurance. "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  5. Hey everyone. A friend and I are coming down to Space Center next Monday and prolly DeLand on Tuesday then hititn up the tunnell on Tuesday night. If there's anyone at either of those DZs that wants to do some RW let me know. I'd love to hook some stuff up. I'm just slightly concerned about the number of folks that'll be out on a Monday and Tuesday: hoping plenty of people will be around. Only 7 more days!!! 6. I'm trying to post some pictures for the 1st time in my personal gallery. The help file says after I log in my gallery should appear in the list. It doesn't. How do I get to put in pictures? "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  7. Could you fill me in on what the Search 5 is? If it sounds cool, maybe I'll be there. "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  8. You mean this stuff costs money? Gee, I guess I was just having so much fun I never noticed, but now that you mention it... "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  9. I know its not the answer to your question but it may help...when we were at Wales for Collegiates they had a bunch of tapes they were giving out. If you are able to contact them they could probably send you one for free. Good luck "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  10. If you haven't seen this show yet, it rocks! It's on TV, but all the episodes are posted online at reevolution.tv so why not check them out there? The show covers all kinds of stuff, from skydiving, base jumping, kite surfing, dirt bike riding to doing street luge. They did a special on Felix crossing the English Channel. Give it a whirl sometime. "Chef recommends!" "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  11. Kel Good to see you are out there patrolling the seas and keeping the streets safe for our kids. Speaking of, how are our kids anyway? Gimme an email or a phone call sometime and let me know what yer doin. Im headin to Florida soon "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."
  12. A friend and I are heading to Skyventure on either March 1 or 2. Let me know if you can make it on those days and maybe we can split some time. "Let the misinterpretation and attacks begin."

    Aerohio

Aerohio is one of the best dropzones I have been to. Their super otter is very fast and they will not hesitate to send it up before the C-182. The people there are very friendly. People will approach you to get on a formation if you are by yourself, and coaches abound. Exit altitudes of 14000 or even higher are very common. They just bought brand new student equipment as well. The DZO will just about bend over backwards to make you happy. When the runway was still too soggy to use, she had us shuttled over to a nearby paved airport to take off. Exit order is always figured out before the plane is loaded so there is no last minute shuffling as the door is opening, and the spots could never be better. The only downsides are the port-o-johns and the occasional smell of fertilizer drifting from the nearby farms. I would drive well out of my way to go to Aerohio over other DZs in Ohio.
