  1. Damn turbo chargers keep trying to kill me. If its wet and I put my foot down I get the ol' time lag before the turbo's kick in then at about 20-30mph there's a surge of power and sometimes the back end wants to slide. Well this morning I stuck her in a hedge No damage, just backed out, cleared all the leaves off my windscreen, looked sheepishly about and drove off to work leaving a gaping hole and some shocked bunnies. I've never had an issue with her before and this time I wasn't even messing arround but driving sensibly. Maybe there was oil on the road or something or maybe my tire pressure was screwy... I'll have to check. Weird
  2. A tribute to Bill. I've never met you but I've read a lot about you. I noticed it was your Birthday today... so happy birthday. I justify posting this here instead of in Politics, Boobies and Religion ... [cough] I mean Talkback because of the shear amount Bill has done in the sport. I think this thread therefore ought to be in a skydiving forum. Besides, Bill Cole IS Canadian Skydiving despite the despicable long time CSPA suspension. If you have no idea who I’m talking about, shame on you... he's done more stunts and held more records than you've had hot meals. Check out some of the web sites about his exploits such as the infamous "chuteless" jump or his toying with 25' risers. Go learn about one of your sports founding fathers:Over The Edge. And to top it all off, he's one of our very own DZ.commers:Chuteless Happy Birthday Bill.
  3. an emergency crew struggling with a skydiving helmet would just cut the thing in two. You can do that with our thin ass helmets... cant see it happening with a motorcycle helmet. Stick to skydiving gear for the most part. I have seen a couple of new skater/BMX type helmets which would actually work well and look cool. They just tend to be not low profile enough for my likeing though. The only exception to the weight issue I have found with moto helmets is an ex police motorcycle helmet that has a fully liftable visor section. Very comfy and had radio equip built in (dubious application in our sport). That was as light as my full face but strong. Shame it was simply too big. Ultimate insult has to be the Gath. A helmet designed for surfers... [rant]extreme sport my ass[/rant]. If you read the lable it says it protects your head against spray and UV light.
  4. Not 100% sure. Will try to chat to a mate who has invested some money in the scheme (good investment (apparently)+ free tunel time). He should know more than most about what going on.
  5. Please tell me your joking? This has been on the cards about 2 years...
  6. Canopies not opening when wet is a myth harking back to the days of silk canopies. The major cause of streamer malfunctions on the old rounds of the Second World War was damp silk. It really was quite a real problem. Given that we don't jump silk or rounds anymore this idea really ought to have died a death. Caviat: I know this as a p/t military historian not as a jumper of old silk rounds so any old timers feel free to correct me.
  7. + points. They way shit all theyre made of low quality plastic and cardboard that would flex on impact. they are gonna fall very slowly - points the undeveloped film only has to be exposed to a tiny amount of light for it to be screwed. If you can find it... give it a shot, some of the film may well have survived at least. Don't bet a lot of money on it though.
  8. yes of course its fine. Just so long as both parties know that its just for fun where on earth can the harm come from?
  9. have you seen the outake from one of the star treck movies where Capting Kirk skydives from space and lands under a square canopy right next to spock and chekov?
  10. Little?? hell no those things are huge! And I believe 88.2% of statistics are made up on the spot... you must have made that one up on the spot or something
  11. good thinking batman
  12. I did a couple of jumps as a student with a round reserve whilst visiting another DZ. Wasn't really a big deal appart from the fact that I only found out that it was a round reserve after I had jumped. Didn't really say much for their saftey... then I guess you might say I should have known to check the canopies, but then this was about my 4th and 5th jumps or something and the canopies used really should have been covered in thier DZ brief.
  13. Personally, I make liberal use of their franked mail and envelopes. Of course I always use my office phone for personal calls. I write most of my personal letters on work time, on work paper, using the work printer, and do all of my photocopying here. I try to do most of my dumps at work whilst of course making good use of the excellent Poo-Timer you can find on line. Finally, and probably most detrimentally, I Post-Whore on here all day long. Ok, so I’m blatantly not the worst abuser... to that end I was just wondering just who is the worst abuser of work time and money? What do you lot get for free curtsey of an unknowing boss?
  14. Not sure how this thread came back up to the top of the pile, but just incase people are still trying to answer my question there's no need. I went ahead and ordered a Wings, I love her, she looks great, and feels wonderful. We've been together now for a few weeks. My friend who ordered an odessey at the same time as me has got to wait untill the end of Feb 04 for his rig to arrive. (of course feel free to discuss anything else you want on here... I ain't no greenie).
  15. You know that apparently 3 people die in the UK every year because they are so afraid of Badgers that they dare not leave their house. I know it seems like I have just made that up, but thats a gods honest true statistic I heard once. No whether or not the statisic itself was bollocks I can't rightly say... but damn funny if it is.
  16. Maybe the 120 - 0 impact it suffered to end up lying in a field did its internals a bit of damage. Maybe L+B have a deal with the battery manufacturers. Maybe they're affriad of getting sued so put in a big safety margine. Maybe your dytter sparkles slightly at some angles and takes on a faint glow at night as a ghostly mist circulates arround it and a choire of angels sing gently in the background.
  17. Im cramming a 190 into mine designed for a 170 for the next jump or two. The handle is very tight going in... I can only see this as an advantage, so long as it doesnt interfere with the pull which it doesnt.
  18. Late Nov over hinton last year. Last lift of the day. Went up to 6k and crused for a while whilst we waited for clearance to go up to altitude. Finally got it and jumped. 45 mins at sub-zero temps was not the most plesent plane ride.
  19. Hehehe been there. This time last year I broke up with a Belgian Girl I'd been seeing for a while. She ended up stalking me and making my life hell for a while. Relationships end, it hurts for all concerned but if its not right its not right. Wish people would deal with it like adults.
  20. on the outside though, not the inside. sewing it on the inside is a common way of slowing yourself down... i have it in the front of my suit.
  21. Good idea. Hill climbing and skiing stuff works good as its designed to be lightweight (thus thin) but warm. Thin is good as it doesnt impead your movement + you can still get your jump suit on. Remember if you have a baggy jump suit and fill it with warm clothes this will effect your fall rate. Look for a good base layer but don't worry about the more expensive wicking base layers that are available. These trap sweat and draw it away from your skin. Unlike in hiking your not doing a lot of work on the ride to altitude so shouldn't sweat too much. This is therefore throwing jump money away. A thermal base layer will work just as well but be half (litterally usually) the price. Another good tip is that your fingers and extremities only get cold because your core body temp starts to drop. Your body then shuts off the supply of warm blood to your extremities leading to cold blue fingers. If you keep your body warm, your fingers and toes should keep a lot warmer all by themselves.
  22. love my full face. buying an open face so I can geek the camera better.
  23. Im at work. Im always at work mon-fry, 9.00-5.30 I still PW. quick here comes my boss
  24. Hehehe We have a 2 day turn arround in the UK for our licences and updates. Guess thats one of the few benefits of being such a small community over here.
