  1. I have a friend who went to another DZ and was told he could not jump his canopy. He had going on 300 jumps and was jumping a Stilleto 135 on which he had about 60 jumps... ok small HP canopy I hear you say. But he is a skinny fuck and loaded this thing less than 0.9:1 (the dz was not worried it was a stilleto, just the size)The DZO said: "your not jumping anything that small and your not the lightest of guys" at which point my mate broke in and said... "now let me stop you there..." then pointed out his weight and his wing loading. Still didn't win and was told he had to jump a 150... but that could be a stilletto. Now this guy had been on a sabre 135 for like 150 jumps before this so IMO was probably more in danger on the 150 (which he had 0 exp on) than on a 135. moral of the story is... DZO always wins. edited to add: there was another guy there that day who loaded the fuck out of his 170 and was allowed to jump that. We figured that the motive behind the ruling was that if there's an incident on a 135 people just see 135 and thing he was overloading it for his exp and slate the DZ for letting him jump. If there's an incidcent on a 170 people just think someone screwed up and dont blame the DZ... after all he was on a 170... why would they stop him jumping something that big? I know its not right, but people do think like that when they hear an incident... the first thing they look at is canopy size ans many people stop right there when they find a 135.
  2. The biggest give away that I was old came when I realised that the first thing I looked at on a girl I liked was her ring finger... damn that was telling...
  3. You can keep a pro-track in your pocket... but then its just a fancey toy. In england newbies are always warned off audiables untill they have 50 jumps or so. That way they have a chance of getting used to remembering to save their own life themselves. Too many people rely on their audiables.
  4. Digitudes are very uncommon in the UK... they are only just appearing. A digitude would pass a flight line check so long as it was a licensed jumper, I would be supprised if they'd let a student jump one, or even an A license at some places. I cannot imagin a sunto passing a flight line check unless the jumper was quite experianced. DZ's are wairy of change and would not like how small the face is. I have seen people jump with them, but they were senior staff at the DZ and basically a law unto themselves.
  5. Check out these two threds:Falling out of a rig and:Leg straps and hip rings This method is not just a rerofit but something thats done to a lot of new rigs, especially those designed for FF. It comes as standard on some and on others its an option. Its a free option on my Wings. Most people like the pads to overlap a bit as this is how they are most comfortable, they're designed to do that. If you cant stow all the excess, double it up. It sounds like your leg straps may be too long for you. If because of the padding, you cannot tighten them up to the point that they hurt then they are too long. If you can get them this tight then the are not. If your not happy with how long your leg straps are just tell Sun Path and they will probably send you a set for free, their customer care us usually pretty good. I will warn you though that the most common cause for fitting problems is an error when measuring. They will probably first ask you to check your measurements. If this is the case they will probably not swap them for free... but then thats the fault of whoever measured you, not theirs. Don't be sad about adding bungee cord... its not a bad thing but a safety device that many if not most people have these days.
  6. I had the bungee cord on my old rig's leg straps. Virtually all my friends have too. Its widely recomended and a very common mod. A lot of people use them as its a very good way of keeping your leg straps in place. Even the leg straps on custom rigs will slip in a sit. I had it happen to me at the weekend on my custom rig. I have yet to stick a bungee through the loops that are provided specifically for this by the maker. I will do so as soon as I can get my hands on some cord. The bungee is not load bearing. Your leg straps are the only thing that take any weight. The bungee just keeps the leg straps where they are supposed to be. I've never heard of anyone advising against it.
  7. no your right... screw up on my part. the max speed would be whatever the terminal velocity of your body and both canopies is. This will be a lot less than your body on its own. What I was trying to say is that [I think... please correct me someone if im wrong] your acceleration to begin with will be greater (I mean over the first second or two which is the relevant time scale in the situation proposed). Your canopies have a forward speed of 15mph... you've now directed that at the ground and that speed is gonna pick up quickly. This is faster over the first second than the speed of your body falling from a stationary position (eg cuttaway from good canopy). The speed your body would reach in free fall would quickly exceed that speed but it would take more than the 1-2 seconds to reach that speed, by which time in this scenario you have alread impacted
  8. who the hell would want mine? I only came out at 20% pure the other day...
  9. As soon as you cutaway from the downplane your reserve will begin to plane out from a completely vertical trajectory to a horizontal one. Vertical = bad, horizontal = good. The closer to getting that one remaining canopy back to horizontal you can get, the better. I know what you are thinking about the pendulum effect but that force has to be less than the force involved with a downplane. If you are that low, you are looking at a crash landing probably no matter what. Therefore you are aiming for a crash landing with the least impact force attainable. Imagine it again. You are heading towards the ground under a downplane. Straight down. Your not just falling, your canopies are propelling you. As soon as you cutaway your direction will start to change, back to horizontal... even if it only has a couple of seconds to change there will still be a change. That change will be away from the vertical, and it the vertical energy that will kill you. I say cut away from a downplane as soon as it develops, no matter how close to the ground it develops.
  10. It sounds like its just a Perris rule that you cannot jump this rig. Quoting them official rules may help them change their mind, but THEY make up the rules for THEIR DZ. If they don't want you to jump it they only have to say no. See if getting them to let you enter a bit into your video waiver saying that you acknolage that you are jumping a non TSO'd rig and have been advised not to by the DZ but that its your choice and your happy to jump it. Might help em change their mind, but like I said... its their decision not the FAA's. If all else fails, elsinore is just up the road. They may not worry.
  11. For anyone who gives a damn... she spun out as the rear offside tire was down to 8psi... (its supposed to be 36!!! Guess that glass I drove through last night did take its toll. (I now see tonto's new avatar... it wasnt there before??)
  12. Can any licensed jumper jump with the student on these "formation" jumps or does it have to be an AFFI ? I wonder as were costing the BCPA anual AFF trip and this new requirement may well bump the price for people significantly. If it does it does, but if we can have experianced members jump do a couple of free two way jumps with each student that would cut the cost and the jumpers would be giving back to their sport.
  13. no... we have our own secret nuclear bunkers... see. (no BS PS job either but real)

  15. [cartman]"why don't you just stop dressing me up like a mail-man... while you smoke crack with some guy... I don't even know... on my dads bed?"[/cartman] Makin you horny?
  16. apparently (google knows all) 12 psi = 0.827369 BAR I guess 0.5BAR is about the positive pressure the turbo gives but when not in use the engine runs with at -4psi (0.27579BAR) and yes turbo's have many disadvantages
  17. thats 12 pounds per square inch.
  18. She's a 3lt Supra with factory twin turbos. They kick out +12lb of boost over the engine's normal running. Don't know why she wigged out on me... didn't feel at all like she does normaly when I intend to whip the back end round (in a controled enviroment of course). Maybe she simply caught me off guard, maybe that broken glass I ran over at the cinema the other night has given me a slow pucnture and I was running uneaven pressure. Edited to add re: pa2themd Who's? mine? Thanks... its a homage to my FF pants and new rig... you'll see when I get round to posting pics.
