Its whats known as an advertising ploy. All DZ's are the "safest" DZ just like all canopies have "soft, on heading openings". Ah, they are probably pointing to the fact some statistic for the last time someone died there, but we all know that is more the luck of the draw for most DZ's as opposed to genuinely being the "safest".

Something I don't understand about the BPA insurance increase
mr2mk1g replied to gus's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hmmm, that would indeed be odd. It does work if skydivers X and Y crash into each other. BUPA then patches up Y goes after the BPA insurance because X caused the accident. Here they sue X as the "third party". But if Y just hooks in, BUPA would have to sue Y to get at the BPA insurance money. Y is not the third party but the insured and I can't see how the BPA insurance would cover it. I think the person you spoke to may have been referring to the first scenario, I hear its common enough nowadays (my old RAPS instructor happens to be an expert witness and keeps telling me about cases he's involved with). The worst thing about it is that if you're injured, there is nothing that you as the skydiver can do to stop the litigation - but it can still happen in your name! -

mr2mk1g replied to gus's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I don't think that can be correct. BUPA would not be a third party, they would be the first party insurer. Besides, that would be tantamount to the BPA insurance covering you for personal injury which we know it doesnt. I would be curious if you have heard this from a good source though. The main reason why we have had an insurance hike this year is that the company who used to supply us insurance has decided to get out of the buisness. We used to have a good deal with them. There are no other insurers who are offering that good deal. Its as simple as that, its not a genuine hike, its just that the place we used to buy from has closed and we must now look elsewhere. -
Xfire2 169! It will be mine, Oh yes, it will be mine!
mr2mk1g replied to meatbomb's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
hehehe, you were shaking after you bought that canopy... you were thinking hard about spending a massive £300 on a camera helmet but concerned about the money.... next thing I know you've blown over a grand on a new canopy! Do you think it's co-incidence that the manufacturers have stalls in a room thats right next to a bar? I think there's been some thought gone into their placing! -
Christ, do they still think that's newsworthy? I remeber reading about the britain ice age theory years ago when the report was first published! Not only that but it was debunked shortly after as being possible, but highly unlikly. Why do newspapers recylce this crap?

Got family members that skydive?
mr2mk1g replied to vonSanta's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My godfather used to jump when he was in the military. He had about 50 jumps in total and became an instructor. The jump requirement for instructor rating was 6 jumps He keeps promising to send me his old log book with the ratings in the front. -
Nce rig - where you see blue and white think red and yellow and you have my rig. Wings rock.

The employer also picks up the buck legally as 99% of the time you're breaking copyright. Home use thats your choice () but in work its your bosses as its his neck on the block. Its very possible that your network security is stopping kazaa from connecting and opening itself up to attack. Look into bit torrent - you may have more luck.
-
Yeah - I hope your at home on this one. Also if you're gonna use kazaa make sure you're on Kazaa K++ as it offers significant protection against arseholes and gives much much better DL speeds. I would recomend bit-torrent though if you are trying to DL anything big and want it fast with no hassles. As for connecting... it really ought to have connected automatically assuming your connected to the net.... where did you get the progam from ?

Vertigo,Hypoxia or something medically wrong with me?
mr2mk1g replied to catfishhunter's topic in Safety and Training
The short answer is that you were too high, should not have been that high, and that you were suffering from oxygen deficiency as a result! You had all the classic symptoms of hypoxia and yes you should do something about this! At any altitude above 10,000msl your body starts to run out of O2. This doesn’t usually pose skydivers a problem as we are not above that altitude for too long. Its all about times of useful consciousness – if you spend too long, too high, you are going to have serious problems. Go look at this web page for a start: http://www.aviationmedicine.co.za/hypres.php and find others like it. You can see there that at an altitude above 15,000msl everyone on that plane was suffering from the lack of O2. You were probably effected worse than the others because you smoke or for a multitude of other reasons. The biggest point is that you really should not have been allowed to go that high without supplemental O2! Your DZ is opening themselves up to a world of shit by doing this on a regular basis! Would you still expect to make money off skydivers alone if there were only 5600 paid up skydivers in the country total? (approximate UK figures as per AGM at the weekend) Factoring in the fact that only a small proportion of the membership are going to want tunnel time and that there is a good chance of a competing tunnel within 100 miles, I think that both UK tunnels are going to have to heavily market their product to whuffos just to survive. On the upside, I think thats no bad thing. It may well introduce hundreds of people to our sport and could conceivably inject a new lease of life into British skydiving... but thats the optimist speaking.

Thanks all for your comments. Cutaway and reserve pads are the yellow and red tie-dye. I'm not too concerned about them being on red as I jump a red t-shirt sometimes and they are easily visable (it is something I have considered though). If the back appears blue, thats my bad for designing it on my mates crappy monitor. The colours are in text in the next design phase so I can't get them mixed up. If you see blue, read black.
-
Ok, so I'm buying a new FF jumpsuit and have a design in mind. Attachment 1 is my rig and FF pants (the harness is black if it makes a difference to you) - I want my full suit to match of course. The other two attachments are the design but I cant decide which way round I want the colours... I also have the option to have the overlocking between the two colours in yellow thred, but you'll have to imagine that. The suits are from www.kurupee.com if you want to have a play. So which do I go with? Please help, I'm stuck

split up???? nooooooooooooooooooooo That must have happened recently - like I said, they played the season out at weston. Damn
-
hmmmm, run for cover.... "Grounded" were awsome last year. I was very disappointed not to see them play again. They had done the Weston end of season Ball, I thought they were a given at the AGM.

The phrase we use for a helmet that covers all the face is "full face" or "fullface". Try searching for those. First example that springs to mind is the Flat Top Pro from bone head which is an expensive model aimed at professional camera men. http://www.boneheadcomposites.com/flattop.htm

Because the landing injuries they sustain next time they screw up will be even less (if they screw up). Students make mistakes. They are given big canopies to mitigate the damage those mistakes cost them. If you have someone who demonstrates that they are prone to mistakes, would it also be an idea to give them something that mitigates the damage their mistakes cause?
-
Ask yourself why students have huge canopies? It because all else being equal, landing injuries tend to be less severe under lightly loaded canopies as the decent rate tends to be less severe. There is also a much greater margin for error. Yes, bigger canopies can be effected by the wind to a greater degree, but the obvious answer here is that students are not allowed to jump in higher winds. Just because someone is licenced doesnt mean they then have to jump in higher winds - so if they are on a lightly loaded canopy they should seriously consider not jumping in higher winds.
-
I don't want to think what diagrams you used to prove your hetrosexuality
-
well all else being equal, the bedford tunnel is bigger and faster. We don't know yet what other elements are going to be equal though. This really is a wait and see thing. I just hope that the two don't drive each other under and we end up with none! I worry that there is not enough demand in the uk to keep two tunnels making bags of money.

3. I fixed my mates sun-roof with pull up cords on the way to last year's AGM. 4. They work ok for packing. (really should be 1.) 5. A couple hold a sleaping bag or roll mat rolled - ready for use when camping at the DZ. 6. Streamers on the rabbits shoes in tracking dives.

looking good as usual beth
-
yeah this weekend was more than jumpable, just the odds of a good weekend tend to get better towards the middle of the year. I wouldn't like to bet a lot on jumping at an event arranged weeks in advance if we do it this side of easter.
-
Well nethers is £16 to 13500 (or more) and is one of the most southerly DZ's in the country. Weston is nice and central and tends to do better with the winds than nethers and is only £1 more. Both are military but the people are great and they are probably the best looking DZs in the country (as much as that counts).
-
I vote nethers or weston. But lets wait a couple of months so we get weather that's at least jumpable.
