  1. No your not in this country - thats a good point. The rules changed about 5 years back after an incident. I actually have the full case on it. The DZ got sued by someone after he hit under a piece of crap reserve that was used as a tandem main for hundreds of jumps. He got about a milion for his injuries back in 98 I think. It was a fair decision too if you ask me - his body was snafued and the DZ were well out of line. I don't know if that applies to canopies that are manufactured as "reserves" and used once for test purposes though - that may be an exclusion to the general rule. It may be that the rule is worded to exclude mains - ie you cant just stick a sabre in there.
  2. Absolutely true - and you can mention that fact when selling and it would surely carry weight. Any jump still counts as a cross on your repack card though.... 20 of those and you have to send it back to the manufacturer (re PD rules anyway) so even a sub terminal jump has an effect on re-sale.
  3. You can organise a demo of the same model of canopy as your reserve, thats probably the best way. I've done this and its a cool learning tool. Afterall, we rely on a demo to see how our main will fly before jumping our actual canopy - why not for our reserve? I personally wouldnt want to fly my actual reserve as the only have a limited longevity. If you jump it you instantly cut a lot of the resale value and take a chunk out of its life span. As for where the toggles are etc, sit through its next re-pack with your rigger if they'll let you.
  4. Nope - from the insurace point of view, the injured party is the "third party" - the person at fault is the "first party". In this case the injured student is claiming to be the third party to the BPA insurance and that the instructor is at fualt and thus the first party. So the third party sues the first party's, third party insurance cover. (their claim fails 99% of the time as they are the one at fault thus they are the first party to the BPA insurance and not covered by the third party only insurance).
  5. Nope I ment this one I noticed the other day in the Classifieds: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/detail_page.cgi?ID=6638&d=1 A PM to the yeilded this website:www.fibrezone.50megs.com (later they will change this site to www.fibrezonecomposites.com which isn't up and running yet). The German one I mention is this:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13363&item=2783304491 If I finally find the time, I'll post a review of this one as I had him send me over a demo helmet. The 4 helmets I mentioned are (AFAIK) the only 4 on the general market that offer an "all in one" design where the camera mount and box is actually built into the body of the helmet. The Cookie Composits helmets all feature a seperate helmet and D-box construction.
  6. Tunnel time - doesnt feel like real freefall - its close but no cigar
  7. You will be hard pushed to find anyone who seriously recomends you to buy anything other than sony as a DV camera. Others simply do not stand up to the abuse, are not standard so you cannot buy things to fit them to, do not have lanc ports so you cannot use a Cameye. (all of those are generaliseations - Im sure someone could find an exception to each, but the advice is sound none the less)
  8. I'm selling a Sabre 1 and I'd like to be able to say if it has ever had a reline. I can only trace back 200 jumps on it and I know its had arround 600 before that. I read the other day that there is a way you can check on the PD website if its ever had a reline.... I can't find where Was I reading rubbish? Should I just e-mail them the serial # and will PD be able to tell me?
  9. Down side is weight and size issues over the PC105/101. It all depends on what you're doing if thats going to be worth it to you.
  10. Yeah - no IP7's - any luck with my Jessops idea yet? Did headsheald have the stand right in front of you as you walk in through the door at the AGM ? If so: I noticed that some of them were wonkey - ie the top mount was not horrizontal on the top of the helmet, although it did form a rightangle with the side mount - which ment that was not vertical either... maybe they were just a couple of screwey demo models but it makes me nervous of their QC.
  11. I don't like the fact you can't heard hunder canopy. Im not into CRW or anything, but I can recall loads of jumps when I've shouted somthing to another jumper under canopy (never in "anger" mind). Just think if for any reason somone needed to call a warning to you.
  12. Where abouts in the UK will you be moving to? Picked out a DZ yet? There are a couple of extremely comprehensive threads on here about different DZ's if you are looking to pick one. If you are going to jump here you may want to factor in the fact that gear hire prices here are pretty high, so it may work out cheaper if you brought your own kit with.
  13. I spoke to 2k Composites last weekend at the AGM. They have stopped the FFX because it was less popular than the FF2 and they are both as snag proof as each other. (I ordered the FF2 - impeniterable!). I wanted the FF2 as I wanted to minimise the concern of a line snag as much as possibel. There are alternatives such as the RAWA a new German helmet called the Leon and an Ausie one you'll find on the clasifieds here. When I factored in the price difference and build quality differences (after a couple of months of research and reading) I went with the FF2 but others may come to different conclusions and want the cheaper models. On camera's the 105 is what a lot of people are buying and perfect for flying. The 101 is no longer made and is identical to the 105 in all but the flash (when are you gonna use that jumping) so this works out a lot cheaper if you can find a nice one. You also may find more responses in the camera forum.
  14. if its his first rig, how come he say's he's selling one HERE? Not that I'm normally one to argue with a BEER call, I'm just standing up for the [erherm] "little" guy.
  15. by the way everyon - there are some AGM photo's on my clubs website. Just hit the link at the bottom of my post and go to "socials" in the top left. I'll post some of the picks I took of DZ.commers when I get round to actually going home again.
  16. When ordering my container I had the option of having the logo on both sides, the reserve flap and mud flap... ALL FREE. Why should a canopy be any different - yes it looks cool (I ticked every box on my rig) but at the end of the day we're only advertising it for them, it shouldn't cost.
  17. cold Ok, its not that bad but we are a lot more weather dependant than most american DZ's. Over the summer though its great. Many of the DZ's are ex military (two of the best are still military) and a lot of the instructors are ex-military which has its effect on the way they are run to a degree. Expect to get shouted at if you do something stupid - so simply follow the rules. Overall the atmos is great and the fact that there are onyl 5.5k skydivers over here in total leads to a very friendly, close-knit community.
  18. I reckon the easyest way to mod one would be to buy the new time out with the second speaker attachment. Simply lop off the second speaker and wire up a light bulb or LED. Piece of piss!
  19. cos they don't hurt now, could help now and cost very little now. If you add them later, they will cost more, you will have to re-learn basic skills and you will miss out on the advantages they give in the mean time.
  20. The rawa website can be found here:http://www.rawa.com.br although its all in portugese and the english website is not yet built. If you want to find out about it searching on here is probably your best bet, there are loads of threads and plenty of good photos. I nearly went for it but got an FF2 instead.
  21. thats about as much fun as one man can have with a puter
  22. I have a benchmade 5 as my backup hook knife, but I guess thats not really what you were asking.
  23. Yeah, saying they are "officially recognised by the BPA as the safest DZ" is a little different from just saying "safest DZ". "Safest DZ" is clearly an advertising "puff" and legally speeking can be ignored. The statement they have, however, must be true or they could get themselves into trouble, at least with the BPA. I guess there must therefore have been some form of official recognition by the BPA as I cannot see any DZ being stupid enough to make up something like that. And ooops, I appear to have just crashed skydivesibson.com
  24. oooo, now I am curious. Yeah someone do tell.
