Thanks - It seems you can get shafted through paypal then where the buyer has a stolen card. I read through paypals customer agreement and they will claw back money from you they can't get it out of the card holder paying. As you are a regular seller you should upgrade to their premium or seller account then they will covered aginst that sort of fraud. Read up on it with them. As I only sell a few items its not worth it for me. As fraud is physically possible Im gonna run for the hills on this one. There are simply too many Red Flaggs in the guys e-mail to make it worth the risk. His need for speed on a camera that needs repair before it will work is one of the biggest concerns. This fraud requires me to send the camera before the 3-5 working days that paypal will take to tell me about the problem. And damnit I knew I shouldnt put that monkey option in.

damnit... I didnt see the NSFW till it was too late... My bad - you had put it (although it could be in the title instead of mascerading as a tag line - I see two others were caught too). Doh (ah boss wont care - they're always lookin at this crap)

Thats just my point though - isnt the whole point of Paypal that it doesnt matter if his card is bogus - thats Paypal's problem. I get my money anyway. If it is possible to scam someone through paypal like that doesnt that have wider implications for paypal itself and my future confidence in the system? Whats to stop me getting shafted in a future deal through paypal which doesnt sound at all fraudulent? And I wouldn't refund anything - it'd be a legally binding contract and I'd stick to it - he'd have to sue me for it and he'd suddenly find he'd bitten off more than he could chew on then.

Has anyone heard of a scam possible through paypal? Full story: Im selling a crappy JVC digital camera on e-bay. Start price £100 (and not really worth a lot more IMHO). I've made it clear its crappy and in need of repair in the add. I get the following email: So I'm like - sure I have no probs shipping to Indonesia if you complete through paypal. I'll have to let you know what it'll cost to ship it though. Next I get: Sounds dodgy right? Sounds too good to be true right? If something sounds too good to be true it usually is right? But this is through paypal - an escrow service... is it possible to get shafted there? If I draw down the ammount I see in my paypal account surely its mine there and then? Or is this like the credit card scam where it appears in your bank on day 1 but by day 3 its bounced and its too late to get your item out of the post?? What do you reckon? A scam through paypal? (edited to remove his adress just in case)

The thing that's scaring you is reading about the incidents. Im a lawyer that deals with a lot of RTA's. All day long I read in graphic detail about car accidents, look at photographs of car accidents, analise car accidents, think about what could have been done differently to avoid that accident. This is very similar to reading about skydiving incidents. We read about them and analise them in the hope that we can learn from them how to avoid that situation. Does reading about car accidents make me scared of driving? No. Does it make me a safer driver? Yes, I believe it does, cos Im always thinking, "what if some idiot pulls out now?... what if he swerves?... what if..." and I drive accordingly Do that with skydiving. Don't let incident reports make you fear the sport - let them make you think about how you can make your skydiving safer. Reading incident reports is a good thing - it reduces the risk of skydiving slightly - they have the ability to make the sport a little safer for you.

Woohoo a "special commendation" -
Edna: "Embiggens? I never heard that word before I moved to Springfield" Ms.Hoover: "I don't know why. It's a perfectly cromulent word."

Is it possible we are talking a little at cross terms here? Would a freeflyer define being good at tracking as being able to move around in a track relative to other jumpers while matching their speed, possibly to the detriment of horizontal travel? Would a bellyflyer define being a good at tracking as being able to go as fast and as flat as possible giving them the maximum separation from a group? Is it therefore possible that different aspects of tracking are important to each respective discipline? If so people arguing over which discipline has the “best” trackers is a little difficult, as there are different standards to be applied. A good friend once said, (admittedly while drunk): “best is such a relative word”… and you know what… he was right.

LMAO sorry - never heard of it and wouldnt be qualified to comment if I had. edit to ad: GOTTCHA - bet ya thought you had a useful reply

[sarcasm] Yeah - you should be able to trash pack both your canopies now for at least a couple of thousand jumps and hey, why not stop inspecting your gear too - thats jumping time you're wasting there. You've had your mal - that means that fate wont come knocking again until statistics show it will..... right? [/sarcasm]

"Don't worry homer - 9 out of 10 religions fail in their first year" - God Hutz : "Your Honour, I move... for... a bad court thingy..." Judge: "You mean a mistrial?" Hutz : "Yeah... a mistrial... thats why you're the Judge, and I'm the... law... talking... guy..."

If it is a 2 man side by side they've gone to some effort (I cant zoom in as Im in work so cant see their bodies) But look - the "reserve" is white, smaller, and has no pilot chute, (I can't count the cells again cos I can't zoom in - anyone?)... all things to be said about most reserves... Of course these don't preclude it from being a CRW canopy but it does at least show that they have taken care to make it look as realistic as possible if it is not genuine. -
Boo - professional legal advice always on hand at Dropzone.com It is highly likely you have a very good legal case and I would not hesitate in advising you to go see a lawyer (save for the expense - I don't know what sort of funding arrangements you have in Spain). First step would be to threaten him with the police. Just e-mail him or leave him an answer phone message saying that you are contacting the police about his theft of your money. Just see if he doesn’t suddenly re-appear. If he doesn’t then seriously consider seeing a lawyer - 3000EU is well out of the "put it down to experience" bracket IMHO. If what you have said is correct, should be able to get your money back for you and it should not (assuming you have similar funding systems to the UK) cost you anything.

Helmet...Would you use either of these???
mr2mk1g replied to BigM's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I saw the seccond one in a snow boarding shop. Quite a nice helmet, good quality workmanship and looked ok. Its basically a delux version of a protec (much better looking mind) so I can't really see why it wouldnt work fine. I've also seen crew guys wearing something very similar. -
is it possible you saw the optic with one of their standard closed boxes made for the PC series? Check out their accessories here: http://www.boneheadcomposites.com/cammount.htm

There's no point - the big three rings are even more safe than the mini ones. Its not a safety issue, its a "look cool" issue. Small rings were not actually a "step forward". Its not just a case of sticking some mini rings on there ether, as the big ring will be oversized and the system wont work to spec. You have to change the big ring out itself. If guess if you want it that bad you can get a suitably qualified rigger to swap out the rings but you'd be paying way more than I would consider the "improvement" in looks is worth. Thats a load bearing point and any work is significant. I'd say stick with the big rings - there's nothing whatsoever wrong with them.

funny that - in England the fastest growing religion (if you can call it that) is Atheism.

Im not sure the idea would work. Use a real life metaphor for the forums of different rooms in a party. Talk back is the main hallway – a huge area with loads of people all chatting about anything they want. There’s a lot of noise and its sometimes difficult to make yourself heard but if you circulate you can hear a lot of different conversations. The other forums are different rooms leading off the main hallway. You often move into these rooms and take part in the conversations there but when its quiet and the conversations are slow you move back into the ever-busy hallway. Sure there are a few people who only ever sit in that room and only ever talk about that one subject, but the majority of people there meander around through all the rooms and the hallway. If you take the hallway and put it in another building, how many people are going to start crossing that wet courtyard to see whats going in the smaller rooms? I’d guess that without the hallway there, traffic across all forums would decrease. People simply wouldn’t bother moving to the other rooms and would stay there cos people are inherently lazy. If it is done, Sangrio would have to do is ensure the hallway is covered and heated and the hall is not too far from the rest of the rooms… ie theres a quick link from one page to the other so its just as easy as it is now to shift from one room to another.

It has simply the best pud design on the market - get it instead of a hacky. Its an excellent rig, easily the equal of any other on the market. This is not an in-depth review - there are plenty here. Their customer service is seccond to none. Go buy one and see for yourself.

Does anyone know how I can go about renting/begging/borrowing a 3 canopy cutaway harness? I'll be out in Perris over easter with a load of friends and we were wondering if we could find one in the states somewhere and have a couple of practice chops on it.
-
LOL - after taking a canopy control course I learned that if you are travelling with the wind you'll get back further by using the rear risers than you will using brakes. Just goes to show that there are differing opinions of those who give the courses not only those who take them.
