  1. That's one cool swoop, but those windblades are haulin ass. On a side note, I was messing arround filming Luigi and Jim Slaton swoop the pond at Perris last month. I was in pretty much the same angle as the shooter in that video and found I was getting the best results using a X2 telephoto lens instead of a wide angle. You can get the dive and level off nicely and it gets you right in their face as they whiz past you. You have to be close for wide angle lenses to work nicely - why would you want to get close to someone going 40mph?
  2. ooo ooo - I've had that one explaned to me before when I asked the question. Apparently it's because there's like 1 japanease team, and the odd Canadian. I guess that makes it a "World" Series... go figure.
  3. Pretty fucking scant knowledge to me. I've seen better web pages come from a "my first webpage kit - now with free siscors".
  4. Well, some excitement for the evening. I was just about to get into bed having undressed and turned out all the lights for the night. The two guys who I normally share my house with are both out - one on business and one at his girlfriends, so I'm alone for the night. I hear through the open bedroom window some bangs and cracking... Odd, I think. So I turn out the remaining desk lamp in my room and go to the windows take a look. There, across the street I see two shadowy people by a car. Perhaps a third walks away. Ok, someone's going out late (its 1am here). But then... odd, that's where my housemate's car was parked - actually no, that is my housemate's car! …but he's away on business... ? I bang on the window and peak through the curtains... no movement. Oh, that would be the engine hesitatingly turning over... and there go the windscreen wipers… Well damnit, looks like I'm just gonna have to put some clothes on. Can’t go tackling thieves with my naked arse hanging out can I now? A quick t-shirt and trousers (sans underwear of course) and chuck on some shoes and I'm down the stairs like a flash. The engine turns over again. I grab my deactivated WWI rifle from the hall before sprinting out the front door. (This is just a big lump of intimidating wood and steel - it no longer makes any kind of bang save for the blunt impact sort from the heavy end. Beautiful piece of history mind). I run out onto my front path so that I am directly opposite the car, about 15ft away. I raise the rifle as I run out and shout "FREEZE" in the best action hero voice my flu will allow. I work the bolt on the rifle for effect. Man car thieves move fast! The two of them bolt down the street, round the corner and off. I don't give chase. That third person is unaccounted for and well, I never was much of a runner. Besides, my “gun” is at best an unwieldy club or fucking scary bluff. At worst it represents trip to the cop shop. I wait a few moments and watch the street. No more movement, no more sounds. The two/three are long gone, probably in search of new underwear. I return to the house and come back with a large maglight, (a slightly more practical club), and leave the lump of wood and steel behind. I secure the car as well as I can and telephone its owner. He’ll see to it tomorrow. I put the bin out. I’d have forgotten otherwise. Perhaps now I've spend 20 minutes writing this the adrenaline will have subsided enough for me to return to my original plan - sleep. Goodnight people. (edited cos apparently I spell like a dead animal... no I said SPELL).
  5. That flight went right by my office and landed about a mile from my home. I pass it sat at the end of the runway every time I go to the Mall.
  6. Sorry - it sounded like you were refering to one we lost...
  7. Can you confirm that you are asking if you should have either: A:Slinks and SRC's only or B:Slinks, SRC's AND link covers. By link covers I take it you mean the nylon bumpers that go over the metal french links? If the above is correct, go with A. There is no need for nylon bumpers as well as SRC's - they both do the same job for their respective links. SRC's are for soft links, nylon bumpers are for metal links. Is that what you were asking?
  8. Sorry... which Crimean War was that?
  9. Slug's got it. It's proper usage is in reference to people who are in the "world class" ie, compete for their country on an international level as opposed to a group or class of people who compete on a national level. I guess you could describe that class of person as "national class". However, it has of course come to be used as little more than advertising puffery.
  10. "Hey Wendy... How're the twins?"
  11. Apologies if this has already been posted, but I’ve been out of the loop for a few days. This all broke on Friday over here. It seems the photo’s of British troops torturing Iraqis were faked. Apparently the truck the scenes are set in is of a type that has never been sent to Iraq, and in fact the actual truck has been found and identified by marks shown in the photo’s. It’s on a TA (National Guard) base in Preston Lancashire (North England). The editor of the Mirror, Piers Morgan, (news paper which published the photographs) has been sacked and the paper has acknowledged that the photographs are fake. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/3716151.stm
  12. I felt it was perfectly appropriate for him to shorten SafireII to Safire in exactly the same way you had done given that was the subject of thread. And you know I agree with him, you really ought not spread rumours.
  13. Any chance the signature (where present could be locked to the bottom of the post. After the re-design of the info panel to the left of posts each posting takes up a minimum space in a thread. This minimum space is greater than the minimum amount of space the text in a posting. This means on short posts the signature is hanging in mid air several lines above the bottom of the post. Just like on this one.
  14. Hon, why is it ok for you to refer to a safireII as a "safire" but when skymedic does it hes a "retard" ? Just curious about your logic.... on that one.
  15. There have been. SabreII/SafireII are very similar. My exp having jumped both is that the SabreII openings suck by comparison. Re flare both have nice flare but different - I found the safireII flare had power further into the toggle stroke by comparison to the sabre. In the air they handle very very similarly. Apparently the sabre is easier to learn to surf but the safire has more top end performance for those who really know how to use the canopies. (that last comment was related to me by more experienced jumpers and as such is not my own experience.
  16. People who pronounce advertisement incorrectly. It’s pronounced ad-ver-TIS-ment NOT ad-ver-TIZE-ment. Yes you “advertIZE” things but you do NOT do it with an ! There is no such thing as an adverTIZEment. (sp intentional)
  17. I must apologise for that grammatical abomination. Syntax was sacrificed by a mid-sentence redraft and failure to proofread.
  18. Someone else got the same mail - crosspost:http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1077243;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread
  19. Is the next one will be SpaceShipOne.2 ?
  20. You sound like a new jumper who's seen a barging in the classifieds and wants to know if it'll work. Please talk to instructors about the necessity for having a reserve that will not kill you - ie one of a similar size to your main. Go and chat to someone about the sort of requirements you will have in a new rig - then you can go looking into classifieds. If you "need" a 170 main then you "need" a 170 reserve.
  21. ooo, ooo, ooo, - referral fee, referral fee
  22. That's why I prefer the phrase: "Arse over tit"... now at least that is referring to the "wrong" way up.
  23. Now that would be some practical joke... Bloke: "Oh lord how may I honour you?" God: "Tie your ass to that tree over there and walk to Jericho... "
  24. Its waycool in austrailia. Very expensive but the wet dream of the lens world. Craig Poxon has posted on here in the past about using a 0.25 fisheye clip on lens (available for $25). He took it appart and converted the clip mechanism into a screw fitting. He's posted detailed instructions and it's apparently really easy and insainly cheap. Try searching for it. One thing I have noted however is that the clip on lenses state that they are available for any lens size from 30-42mm.... that still aint gonna fit on your 25mm camera. It's either a step ring or lens from waycool or reconstruct a clipon.
  25. 1. no 2. no 3. yes 4. no 5. no We're only here through a series of random chances. With a univers as big as it is it would be foolish to think that similar random chances have not happend. A kinda monkeys and typwriters style thing.
