New News: Olympic Committee voted Skydiving down (again)
mr2mk1g replied to ltdiver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm not sure what you're point is… I don’t disagree with any of the information you post. My point was that simply because a sport enjoys a second-tier status in the US does not mean it is similarly held in the World at large. The Olympics is concerned with the World scene not just the US. Thus Football is in the Olympics along with things like Squash - sports popular throughout the world... whilst sports such as Baseball and American Football which are almost exclusively the preserve of the US are not. What I was talking about was that simply because Squash, (being the example chosen earlier in the thread), was not popular in the US, did not mean it is not popular in the World and thus worthy of inclusion in the Olympics. Football (soccer) is a good example of that theory in practice as it only enjoys a "second-tier" following within the US but in the wider world it is apparently the sport of choice. -
Or quit whining and do it in the UK. The weather's perfectly fine for skydiving all year round. Yes the hours close in and we start to get a lot of bad weather days but the answer to that if you want to jump is simply to avoid them. If you want you can jump right through the winter with only a couple of weeks off here and there. If you're unlucky or miss a good weekend you might end up with a longer break but it's far from a certainty. All it takes is a little effort.

I was under that impression too - isn't that the main resaon camera jumpers at such events jump two cameras... ?

In case this thread starts to drift off into a "should we have gone into Iraq" thread - remember all that the question is "did Iraq have a direct connection with 9/11". Those two are very different questions!
-
I was not intending to put words in your mouth. But in fairness the question is not who should we fight against – but did Iraq have anything to do with 9/11. I was under the impression though that we were all quite certain that Al Qaeda was responsible for 9/11 and that it was not something to do with any other of the many organisations out there. Thus if we’re asking for a link between 9/11 and Iraq we’re not asking how we should defend our loved ones – we’re asking if there is a link between Iraq and Al Qaeda. The question must equally be is there a link between SH and OSB as those two were the controlling heads of each entity. I was also under the impression that we had been told on numerous times that OSB hated SH and SH hated OSB… That with the ascertion that there was no link between OSB and SH. Whilst SH may well have supported Islamic terrorism in a wider sense he did not support OSB or AQ – or so we’re told at least. If he did not support either OSB or AQ then he had no link to 9/11, even if he does have a link to the wider concept of international terrorism, attacks on the West or instability in the middle east. If you want to link things like that to 9/11 as being an indirect link… well – surely then we start to say we’re losing a kingdom for want of a horse?
-
The problem with linking Iraq with OBL is that apparently OBL hated SH and Iraq even more than he hated the USA. Why would Iraq have even indirectly supported OBL? Now supporting Islamic extremism in general simply because they were anti west... or simply because it pissed the west off – yup I’d go with that... but Al Qaeda was apparently an exception.
-
Yeah - I say Nuke the unborn gay whales!

If you ask the authorities they tell you that SH had nothing to do with 9/11 - not in any way. They don't hide that fact, no one in a possition of power appears to even be hinting at it from what I've seen. It's still amazing that some dumbasses out there believe SH had something to do with 9/11 - even when no one but the voices in their head is saying he did.

I don't see the problem. It's not really any different to any other Bank. We have en English Bank, a Scottish Bank; we even have a Bank for Yorkshire men. Many institutions have stated best practices when it comes to investment. The Body Shop only invests in firms who are nice to fluffy animals for example. I think it’s the CoOp (also a bank) that states it doesn’t invest in arms co’s etc. So what we have here is essentially a bank with a name which appeals to a certain segment of society (nothing at all unusual there) that has stated ethics when it comes to investment (again nothing at all unusual there). The only difference is that in this instance the Bank is relying on an outside “agency” to come up with its investment ethics. If you count banks that use advertising agencies to come up with their investment ethics for them (I'm sure they exist) then not even that is unusual.

That's funny. Most alarming part is that often there would be no need to change the label regardless of who's in power.

Sangiro has recently decided to devote all his time to DZ.com All I can presume is that people are doing their damndest to make sure he’s not going to get this site into any of the big web advertisers because of all the offensive content and naked pictures on here – barring all the porn advertisers of course… but then we’d hardly want to see them advertising DZ.com would we. New News: Olympic Committee voted Skydiving down (again)
mr2mk1g replied to ltdiver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I don't know about America but in the rest of the world Squash is really very popular. I'd put lots of money on there being many times the number of squash players than skydivers. Just because it's not big in America doesn't mean it's not big elsewhere. Remember - one of the most popular games in the WORLD is "soccer". There are probably more regular “soccer” players in the world than there are Americans… and very few of them call it “soccer”. -
Don't dis the kitten - it's carrying a concealed weapon!
-
You're quite probably right, but do you think it might be worth a shot? Probably more importantly - do you think some voters might think it's worth a shot? It’s a kind of balance of harm thing – on one hand you inconvenience a few people – on the other hand you might save hundreds of lives. Also bear in mind the repercussions on the authorities if a bomb went off and they couldn’t point to any form of security checks whatsoever. As it is, were the worst to happen they can at least point to security checks that many considered intrusive and over the top.

Betcha no one in Madrid ever saw anything suspicious before either.

2 whole pages and I'm the first to say: "15,000 ft." Why the hell not - I've got a rig and I can magically just teleport myself places... how cool would that be - instant skydiving!

Which russian plane was approved for use in US?
mr2mk1g replied to BlindBrick's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Looks like a very cool jumpship. Kinda like a fat otter with a twin tail plane. It's built for STOL, takes 20 jumpers, is FAA rated, runs PT6 powerplants, has a tailgate and fast climb rate... hmmm.... Wonder how much they are... or I guess I wonder how much they're going to be in 5-10 years time when they quit running execs and cargo? The avioncis though look a bit... how shall I say - "advanced", by comparison to the average jump plane though... http://www.addison-aircraft.com/site/skytruck/homepage_files/sales01.htm -
At least he has net access though...
