    PC gone mad?

Well ya learn something every day. Goodness knows how I struck uppon something so ludicrasly simple as the phrase being related to picking out nits (hair louse eggs). Next they’ll be telling me the streets have person hole covers and that it’s the “Theirstory Channel” instead of the “History Channel”.

    PC gone mad?

What in the hell does "nit picking" have to do with ethnic minorities??????
  3. Definately. The real stuff is excellent and my favourite tipple. If anyone's ever in Bristol (UK) I'll treat you to a night out in Ether - a bar that specialises in absinthe... many many wonderful nights out vaguly remembered there...
  4. Anyone want some more vid like that? There are two based less than a mile from my house. One regularly practices stunts actually over my house. They're based at the Rolls Royce testing ground/airfield about a mile away right next to where concord's resting up. Never really paid much attention to it's designation but I think it's a mkIX supermarine (or at least a late designation anyway) with overlord markings. The other's definately a MkIII but you only ever see that taking off and buggering off as opposed to doing aerobatics.
  5. I believe you're looking for the answer: "Sum of all fears" involving a lost Israili nuke. Q: Does anyone find it odd that they were "training" with a real nuke (albeit not "live"). It's still radio active and still contained 400lb of conventional explosives. Surely if there's no need for it to actually be live for the training - there's equally no need for it to be an actual nuke... just be sized and weighted accordingly.
  6. At 19 jumps I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re still in an exaggerated student arch. That’s the best body pos for stability but not for controllability or fall rate. Get coaching, I bet 90% of your speed is down to your body position rather than your jumpsuit. That said, if you want to start doing RW – get the right tool for the job and in this case that means a properly fitted suit.
  7. I have no idea if SH had WMD or not. I do have some simple and compelling answers to the questions you pose and on which you base your conclusion. You ask: “Why hinder the inspectors and risk losing his power if he really didn't have wmd anymore and could prove it???” This was widely discussed the time. No one expected he would. He was the leader of a sovereign country, one run through tyranny. Bowing to a foreign power would have discredited him so badly in the eyes of his people he had to take the risk he did. He just couldn’t risk losing face like that. Last time he lost face was in 91 - he nearly lost power then. Not to us but to his own rebelling people; empowered by his percieved weakness. Even if you take away that logic you are still left with a man who ruled for himself not for his country. Sod what happens to his country – he was sat there thinking “I will NOT be dictated to” and damn the consequences On top of that you have to consider that he really didn’t think we’d invade. He’d been in the situation many times before and felt that he was going to see exactly what he'd seen before. A few more air strikes, some sanctions, bla bla bla – nothing that actually hurt him – only his people. He could sit there and defi the threats, becuase that's all he thought they were. At the very last minute when he realised troops really were going in, we did see reports that he suddenly backed down... but only in a half hearted manner. Again he was gambling he could do the minimum to avoid being deposed and still have a hope of not loosing face before his people. He was trying to back down and still remain defiant. By then it was too late. Again, this doesn't mean there were not WMD in Iraq, just that I do not buy your explanation of why there were.
  8. Not a great choice you guys are foisting on the world is it... Good hit on the dates by the way.
  9. Holy fuck! That’s the most awsomerist thing I’ve ever heard. You can RENT MONKEYS. Shit that is sooooo cool. Where in the hell can I rent a monkey? Do they ship to the UK?
  10. I'd recomend getting a proper sports massage. Should cost you somthing like $30 and it'll do you the world of good and likely speed your recovery. Whiplash can be an arse.
  11. I suspect they probably got this club started as a place to go to hide from all the bullies. Crochet is ideal because it requires allows you to sit still instead of working off the tub of lard on your ass or otherwise move around and lose your gigantic glasses you have to wear. Besides, orthopaedic shoes hurt to walk about in after a long day of monitoring halls. Seriously - this has to a complete geakfest.
  12. Don't risk damage to your reserve risers. Whatever else you do keep that concept at the forefront of your mind. If you can't get them off, don't worry. You're saying it's being "sent off" so I assume it's either going back to the manuf. or to a rigger. Fine - they'll be able to deal with the problem for you if nessasery. They're also the one's who know best just how nessasery their removal is.
  13. I really hate the way the taslan arms on kurupee suits inflate like that. Nice shots though.
  14. Does anyone else think it's a little too Orwellian for the “US Official” to be telling people it’s just a forest fire while the whole world is trying to figure out what caused such a massive explosion, big enough to actually be seen and felt in SK. Somehow the Iraqi Information Minster comes to mind: "There was no explosion. It is just little forest fire. You no need worry, we will defeat the infidels".
  15. LOL Now that's funny. Anal; but funny. And for once I can't even pick fault with any of it... you're perfectly correct.
  16. You quote me as saying and wish to interpret that as support for Al Qaeda??? "Can't see the wood for the trees".... it’s a common phrase - in this application it means I'm suggesting you can't see all the other terrorist groups (the analogy being that they are the wood: as in, a group of trees) because you have Al Qaeda continually shoved in your face (the analogy there being they are an individual tree). You can’t see the wood for the trees…. you can’t see all the other terrorist groups out there because you’re focused on just one group…. that phrase makes sense to you now? I have to worry when it’s necessary to explain such a simple and commonly understood phrase as that. Taken in context with the rest of my post I am not sure how any right minded individual can see that as anything other than a further reference to the fact that there is more than JUST ONE group of terrorists out there. Are you now telling me you support terrorism in certain cases? You're posting on a public forum that you sympathize with terrorism in instances where a minority want home rule? Is that really what you're saying? Are you sure you want to public declare that? You really are here saying that you support the killing of American troops so that Iraq can have home rule sooner rather than later? You say Britain had the option of simply appeasing the IRA et al. Why do you not support American appeasement of Al Qaeda? Do you not see the nonsense in your own argument????
  17. I know. I know. Quite possibly, yes. I don't. Please indicate where you think I state this. I know.

    AK 47

I did once... For about a week before I put it in an auction house in Scarborough. T'was a deac. - pre 95 regs so still have a working bolt etc. My prize possession was my BREN gun for a while but that went too. Always wanted an MP44 (blatantly what AK ripped off) or something really big an’ tripod mounted like an old Vickers or an MG42... that would have scared the neighbours. The only kit I have left now are a load of WWII and WWI bayonets and my SMLE which I don't think I'll ever sell. It's too beautiful. I even had an AK bayonet for years. The build quality was crap, but a nice enough design. I sold it through e-bay to a yank earlier this year.

    AK 47

IIRC the EM2 saw limited service in the Malayan insurgency. It's bulpup design was great for the jungle warfare they had... but that's from memory. I also know it was on the absolute verge of getting fully adopted into service but NATO scuppered the idea with their insistence on the larger round. Re AK sniper rifle - search for Dragunov (sp?) that's the colloquial name for it. Nice bit of kit. Re width of the net... dunno. I just knew it was acclaimed to be the most widely produced weapon and knew it was officially recognised as being the first and only to break the 30 mil units mark so I googled it and turned up the ubiquitous wikipedia entry here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ak-47 Definitely need to go the IWM again. I keep meaning to take another trip up to the one in Leeds. Last time I was there they let me fire a replica Baker rifle!!! THAT was one of the most fun day's I've had.
  20. The Courts in the UK are doing a good job of stemming the flow so far. Last year the courts struck a great blow to the ambulance chasers when they almost single handedly shut down The Accident Group. TAG was responsible for the majority of no-win-no-fee claims in Britain and almost all the advertising you saw at the time. They were essentially playing the system to make vast profits at the expense of both the claimants and the Britain’s insurers (a cost which is passed on to everyone in the form of hiked premiums). The courts produced a couple of landmark judgements and through a nice technicality cut off TAG’s biggest source of money. Not only that but the judgement was retrospective so in one fell swoop TAG was also suddenly lumbered with such massive debts that they went into administration almost immediately. That sent a loud warning to the rest of the industry that the system will not tolerate ambulance chasers on that kind of scale. Whilst there are certain checks in place in the UK system that make it far less prone to the kind of abuse you see in the states, the compensation culture is filtering in. On the whole the UK system is far less susceptible to this kind of madness – just through a couple of quirks of the system not present in the US (to greater or lesser degrees). Rest assured though, it’s being fought against tooth and nail. No one in the industry wants to allow it to run away with itself like it has done elsewhere in the world. It's mostly culture driven as opposed to industry. That and a few shister firms... but the industry as a whole certainly doesn't want the trend. I fucking hate some of the claimants out there... I hate claims farm companies more.
  21. Another option is Weston on the Green nr. Oxford. I spent a wonderful season there a year ago and love the place. I’m not so enamoured with them now they’re put their prices up and reduced their opening hours but a nice place non the less. They do have the honour of having the cheapest bar of any DZ in the country. RAF regulations mean the bar is not allowed to make any more than 12p per drink. You are therefore provided with pints for about 74p and doubles and mixers for about 86p (glaringly inaccurate I’m sure but close enough and from memory... and at those prices I don’t tend to have a good memory).

    AK 47

Your link is nothing to do with the AK47. The AK47 in it's many variants (and by that I only mean 47's and their variants; not later models such as the 74 or 101-105 - which you linked to) is the most numerous weapon ever produced. Estimates of total number of units produced vary from 55 million to 100 million - easily enough to arm every man, woman, child and pensioner in the UK.
  23. They didn't. This was an out of court settlement. There are some inherent flaws in the US legal system that mean that far too often it's cheaper to simply pay people off than fight the claim. There are also incentives to make unfounded claims without the risk of penalties on the claimant. It's a balancing act and IMHO the pendulum has swung too far in favour of access to justice over there.
  24. There's a risk wherever you are. For the kind of theft I was referring to, risk in the UK is low. People who steal Pokemon cards and CD's are unlikely to be carrying. Remember the thread where I described taking on 2/3 little shits breaking into a car outside of my house? You expressed concern that they may have been carrying… concern that quickly turned to amusement when I told you they were trying to steal a 1990 1lt. burgundy Rover Metro that smelled of grandparents. The trick with shop theft is stealth and not setting off the barrier alarms with the gun you’re carrying. The vast majority of shoplifters here run rather than pulling a weapon, the item they’re stealing simply isn’t worth it. In the instances where members of the public do come into contact with firearms here it is in crimes involving confrontation, such as muggings.
  25. Yeah dude I don't think you'll find anywhere actually in London to drink... you're best off hopping on a train to somewhere like Oxford or Cambridge. The lack of good watering holes in the capitol sucks man.
