  1. hit the button in the top left which says "before". The button will change to read "after" and the picture will change to reveal half the island is just plain gone and everything that once stood is flattened and caked in mud.
  2. I made use of a beach car park at a local seaside destination one time and came back to find some the kids belonging to the car parked next to mine had built a sand castle against the side of my car up into the side air intake for the engine. I couldn't believe that a parent could just let her kids build a sandcastle up against someone’s car - never mind the fact that they'd filled my air intake with sand and starting my car now would result in irreversible damage to the engine. So there I am on a beach screaming at a woman as she hurriedly starts her car engine and drives away. I gave the windscreen a good thump as she pulled out too. Fucking moron. Just like you, people stood looking wondering what the hell had happened to make me so furious. I then had to spend 20 minutes digging my car out and back flushing the air intake with water to get as much sand out as possible. It’s just beyond belief that people can be so fucking stupid.
  3. It's the one's of Banda Aceh which is the most shocking - here: http://homepage.mac.com/demark/tsunami/3.html And look what it did to Banda Aceh city itself: http://homepage.mac.com/demark/tsunami/5.html
  4. I wonder what would happen if a BASE jumper turned up and said they were there to make a program for Channel 4 and had a load of mates with cameras and yellow tabards on?

    BPA AGM 2005

I don't know if there's a reduction coming as no figures have yet been published to my knowledge (of course that doen't make it so, so if they have I'd love to see them). What does the DZ threatening to pull out of the BPA intend to do about insurance / the requirement to have BPA insurance to skydive in the UK or are they an overseas DZ? (Rhine perhaps?)

It would also appear that Grounded has reformed and will be playing again - they're a wicked band, reason enough alone to go.

    BPA AGM 2005

I'm not sure I agree that voting the budget down would have no consequences. Our insurance would run out at the end of the financial year and skydiving from that point would stop. That would give the BPA 2 months to find an alternative that is significantly cheaper (in order to get the vote through) and then organize a postal vote to go out with the mag. I'd hate to think of the financial consequences of them not hitting the deadline by even a week or two on DZ's who would be spooling up to hit the start of the season. That's if the second vote went through. I think actually voting it down would be a very dangerous game to play. It would be nice to see a very near thing though to give them a scare into actually taking the issue very seriously.... I wouldn't be surprised if last year went a good way to achieving that though.

    BPA AGM 2005

I'm going again. Actually booked a room this year! Not going to bother with the full dinner this year though as to be honest, it's a bit expensive for the quality of food you get.
  9. Nope - it's what the rest of America does... Britain for example uses half-mast without exception.
  10. How many US citizens died in the tsunami? The UK lost over 400... and that figure is predicted to rise. At present it looks like Finland lost over 2000! That seems like a good enough reason to me to fly our nation’s flag at half-mast, irrespective of how many other nationalities died.
  11. I wrote one too for the website of the club I jump with (url at the bottom... look for the Gear FAQ). If you read it you'll see it's an overview and starting point for your further learning. As such it might help you narrow down your questions to ones more suited to a rigger... anything highly detiled you'll notice it simply directs you to talk to a rigger/instructor... but it's a comprehensive starting point. Oh yeah, and you should note it's geared towards the UK jumper so may mention safty regulations which won't apply to you.
  12. I agree entirely. The number of legally held firearms which entered criminal circulation each year in the UK were statistically insignificant. But then... that was not the main reason why parliament legislated in 1997. That had everything to do with removing firearms from the hands of normally law abiding citezens.
  13. hehe, nice one. I'm going for the saturation tactic. My sig has such a massive web presence, it having been my log on for EVERYTHING I have ever done on the net for the past 5 years. I figure if they can be bothered to trawl through the millions of leads they get just to find me I'll have eaten enough time out of thier lives to have got my own back in a small way.
  14. hehehe - you should knock up a fake "note from your mother" saying you're allowed to skydive and keep it in your foldie thingie just to make light of the situation should you ever get asked again. One for the "student one liners" thread I guess.
  15. Someone's head should roll. People could have been killed and millions of $$ of taxpayers money has been wasted all because a few people were too lazy and stupid to do their job right. I mean seriously... you dig a chuffing great hole in an active runway and don't even bother to tell anyone?
  16. That's probably part of the problem in some places: "In rounded numbers, there are, 10,300 barristers admitted to practice before the bar of England and Wales (as of 1 March 2003) and 86,000 practicing solicitors as of that date, a total of 96,300 lawyers. In comparison, on 1 March 2003, there were 191,000 lawyers admitted to the active practice of law in California, the population of which is approximately 40% of that of England and Wales." That said... they may simply be catering to the demand of the populus... but given the number of ad's I see when I'm in california I guess it's probably a good bit of both.
  17. Now this is one lucky fucker. http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2005/01/05/1104832159928.html Synopsis for any who can't open the link:

  19. There we are see - 7. Congratulations - it's a boy.
  20. More importantly - you're a bloke... magenta is "woman" for "redish". Blokes recognise 7 colours... unless they're using a PC and then they're quite happy using as many as 256 colours, 65,000 colours or even millions of colours.
  21. the blue background of DZ.com has burned into your eyes you post whore.
  22. Sorry dude, no screw-up. There are many Duffman's... soon as one guy gets killed in a stunt / becomes too much of an alcoholic, they just ship in another identical actor. Been addressed in a couple of episodes... I think at least the one where homer descovers the local football team is moving to Albuquerque and goes on hunger strike. You can now consider yourself one of those Star Trek super-freaks who think Wookies come from Endor (ok not star trek but at least a Southpark quote)
  23. We also know that the US was involved. You suggested half the contributions from the above states be attributed to Iraq... does half the US contribution get attributed to Iraq too?
