On a practical note, imagine a room about 10m x 20m filled with furniture and odd wooden beams (for yankie tourists) with a single bar at the far end. Now imagine another room no more than 6ft away from the first room. This room has arround 300 skydivers in it... they're all alowed to leave at the same time. The first room is the only place that serves alcohol. Sod it, bar sounds good to me...

Main foyer - bit statue thingy of Neptune or the like. Left = breakfast and brasserie Right = everything else. Straight ahead reception. Turn right: stupid twee fake street thingy for American tourists. Snooty Fox "pub" on left made to look like stupid twee fake Olde Worlde pub for aforementioned yanks. Serves alcohol all day at high prices. Left hand bend – and on left another entrance to snooty fox + small “corner shop” style thing that’s shut almost any time you actually want anything. Further on: Large room on right = main hall – where AGM proper takes place and where dinner/dance takes place in evening. Set out with rows of chairs during the day and tables at night. Live band at far end, bar on right after going through doors. Large room on left = gear/manufacturer expose type thing with loads of stalls by most major and minor manufacturers who can be found round this part of the world… + a few odd ones from people who you can’t really understand why they bother coming to a skydiving event. Two years ago also hosted a ‘free’ breakfast. Closed at night. Rooms are upstairs; toilets are down corridors running along the sides of both the two large rooms listed above. Seminars are held upstairs in conference rooms mostly too small for the audience. Many people bring beer… although I think you’re not supposed to.

Yup - essentially they're saying the Greenhouse effect is much worse than what we are seeing... as the heating effects are being minimised by the dimming effect. What happens when you take away the dimming particals without tackling the underlying problems causing global warming? You get a large increase in temp over a very short time period. Seeing as the particulates which cause dimming also cause serious problems to human health, simply continuing to churn out particulates is probably not a great idea... thus we're gonna have to take a look at the greenhouse gas problem at some point. I guess this is probably all moot anyway as we're gonna run out of fosil fuels in the next few years anyway... then we'll be forced to look at the way we get our energy anyway.

he - that flash is going to work wonderfully after you screw a wide angle lens in front of it.

hehe, I got well and truly bollocked once by HH via PM for this post: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1350316#1350316 He thought it was a genuine classified till I explaned it. He put it back tand told me not to worry about it. Guess he saw the text and didn't bother looking at the picture. -
But that's usually illegal. Stripping's usually perfectly legal. Laws are an expression of the moral standards held by society at large.

In retrospect, yes. Several times. At the time, NO. I was always too busy at the time dealing with the actual situation to think I was about to die... I'm a problem solver and my first thought is always about how to solve the problem, not about the potential ramifications. Maybe that's why I never died?

Parachute sizing and design - schools of thought
mr2mk1g replied to mr2mk1g's topic in Gear and Rigging
When PD released the Katana they said they would only release the 120 at first as they were not done testing any of the other sizes. Each size would require its specific tweaking that can only be done through testing those canopies. When you buy an Icarus canopy you have the option to buy any size you can come up with – even half sizes. They just scale each element of the canopy to match and the resultant canopy works just like any other size in the range. These two schools of thought would appear to directly contradict one another. What are your thoughts? -
hehe - just found it and edited it into my post.

DAMNIT... when I'd posted that I'd just read the latest council minutes which read: Sorry everyone - it would appear things must have changed since then and I've been lured into posting misinformation.

...then they should

If you're worried about immigrants just adopt Belgian immigration policy and you'll find the number of people entering your country drops to almost nothing very quickly. See immigrants are all turned away from Belgian almost immediately by.... a big sign saying "Welcome to Belgium"

NASA should like... talk to Duracell or something... that sucks worse than an S series battery.

It's alright bud, I got the wrong end of the stick about what your point was.

Would it still count as "safe and sound" if you landed so hard you broke your leg... or if your reserve flew so fast you didn't have time from your super low opening to spot and land anywhere safe?

Can anyone tell me about jumping in Scotland?
mr2mk1g replied to windcatcher's topic in Events & Places to Jump
The regs are the same throughout Great Britain so the link Vicky gave you has all the info you need on those. If there's anything specific you can't find just let us know and we'll help out. Scotland's not exactly got the best weather in the world for skydiving... but the DZ's do perfectly well for themselves in season. You should have a great time jumping and living there. -
Both snopes and the golf magazine state it is wrong - read the answer to the question on the golf page:

You're right - acetominophen and alcohol combined have very much worse effect on the liver than one or the other on their own. People are recomended NOT to take drugs containing acetominophen to cure a hangover. Acetominophen is found in Tylenol in the US, over here it's known as Paracetamol. DON'T TAKE PARACETAMOL FOR A HANGOVER!

Q: What do you call 20 lawyers doing a parachute jump? A: Skeet

Orange juice and water are a very good substitute for an isotonic drink - its a sweet drink full of vitamins diluted with water... you've done good so far... now it's just a case of letting it get to work... sorry
-
Isotonic drinks and Ibuprofen. You're brain is dehydrated - you need liquids. You're also low on salts and sugars. An isotonic drink is the best way to put these back into your system asap. Ibuprofen is the best way to kill the pain in the mean time. Try and find a non-fizzy isotonic drink if you can... it will help with the pukeing

Cool, thanks very much for the tips. I understand this is a busy DZ... I'd be looking to whack in somewhere around 100 jumps in about 10 days... anyone see any reason why Kolomna (baring bad luck with weather of course) wouldn't be able to keep me up that much?

certain ex-presidents may disagree with you on one or two points... but the overall idea of immigrants adopting the new host nations values is perfectly laudable - they want to live there - they should speak the lingo and so forth.

That was classic. My favorate "meet" was Hector from Icarus canopies spain who I found out went to the same Uni as me and was desperate to visit Bristol again... so was quite easy to talk into giving me a great discount once he was drunk... never used it though ... but I guess half the fun is in the chase.
