  1. Hey, if I didn't enjoy debating I wouldn't have gone and made it my job now would I. And you wanna talk about arguing for a side you don't believe in? Tomorrow morning I've got to go tell a magistrate some twit wasn't driving without due care and attention and next week I'm proving that it wasn't the vendors fault the glue they sold a construction firm shows through the 600 aluminum panels they stuck to the side of a building. Once while I was at college I successfully argued that cutting down the rain forest was a good idea and indeed necessary to the survival of the Human race.
  2. The question is about the views of Iraqi insurgents. What proportion of Iraqi insurgents do you suppose are women? Remembering that this is a staunchly fundamentalist Islamic movement where women's place is in the home. I'm sure there are some female insurgents... but I'm guessing it's kinda hard to aim an RPG in a burka. That Iraqi women are looking to the future is good... it doesn't necessarily correlate to what the insurgents are thinking however. Your editorial at the end of your women thread would surely come under my "plus a few others to boot"... one that I tend to agree is quite possible.
  3. And because they're not "cool". I mean... Pro-tec's are perfect for most jumpers... they're just not "cool".
  4. It could be that they don't care much about whatever elections we're holding, they just want to get us out of their country. It could be that they don’t trust us to hold open elections and think we’ll just install a stooge? It could be that they don’t want an open election as the majority of insurgents are suuni and thus in a minority who will be under-represented by an open election. It’s probably all of the above and a few others to boot.
  5. Yeah - I'd second that. Worst thing is it looks like she's working out! Probably thinks she needs to lose weight.
  6. "Calista lived to be 173... and the had great tit's to the end". I wouldn't want to go near those.
  7. I think it's a good idea. There needs to be incentives for people to buy and drive hybrids. More incentives like this will draw people to this technology and with the resultant demand will come big advances in the technology. Once everyone's doing it perhaps then things will change again?
  8. heheh, I know - part joshing, part pointing out the 'fringe' benefits of such a clip... also partially seriously saying that if I was in a pos. of authority in mil. Intel. - that would be an option I'd want looking at. It's exactly the sort of operation that would have been carried out by British intel. during WWII. After all, it’s also in the text book for counter insurgency work – “winning hearts and minds”.
  9. Anyone had the one where the weight of the spring in the PC causes it to fall in front of the of the canopy after deployment, where it inflates and loops back through the lines causing the canopy to bowtie. That was a fun jump 14(ish).
  10. Putting out a clip on Iraqi TV saying that Iran and Syria are funding the insurgency would be a great way to sway the Iraqi population into hating the insurgents themselves. That would sure be a cool piece of counter intelligence work for the coalition if they could find such a clip.
  11. Yup - council is South Glostershire so North area of Bristol. The district was up in arms about it apparently.... guess the fuss died down after a while once people learned to live with it. At first I thought it was a terrible idea. I felt there was simply not enough waste for the green bin and far too much for the normal one. Now I've been using the system for a while and take the time to seperate as much as possible... it works... mostly. There's always just a bit too much for the normal bin... but I guess that was the case before hand most of the time anyway. What space is left in the green bin every fortnight will easily be filled in the warmer months by grass clippings and other garden stuff. Guess overall it works... but it's one hell of a shock to the system when it comes in. I bet we see it rolled out across the rest of the country when councils realise how much they can save on landfill charges - the cost of that realestate's going up faster than London.
  12. I recycle because I have to. Someone had a brilliant idea last year that they would only collect our normal bins once every other week (usually once a week). We would then be issued with a green bin and a green box. This would be collected on the weeks when our normal bin was not. The green bin takes paper, card and garden waste. If you put other things in there they won't take it. The green box takes cans, glass, old clothes and the like (as yet no plastic but apparently comming). This way I am litterally forced to recycle, (to be honest I would do much less recycling otherwise). Now if I don't seperate my main bin is completely overflows. The only way I can manage the household waste is to religiously seperate every scrap of card and every single tin or bottle I can. I hate it... but I have to admit it's a great idea that does wonders for recycling.
  13. ahh, we only hate you cos we don't want to admit we have so much in common with you. Besides... it's the frogs we really hate
  14. It's sadly a common problem. I heard a brilliant idea for this situation a short while agon on this site. Calmly turn arround, cup your hand to your ear and say, "pardon?" thus 'delaying' them further.
  15. I would - it's definitely a positive thing... a nice light hearted joke.
  16. The public image of a pimp (original 70's meaning) would be someone in a purple crushed velvet suit, broad brimmed hat with a feather stuck out of it. In other words very "cool" looking… at least if you like that sort of thing. Thus, while a pimp may have an unsavory job, his style and dress sense can be applied to someone/something in a positive sense. Thus something can be "pimp" i.e. highly fashionable and de rigueur. I may therefore “pimp my ride” (for example, put big alloy wheels on my car and lower the suspension). So the phrase “freefly pimp” could I suppose mean a very cool freeflyer... at least that's my take on it.
  17. I like the idea... just remember not everyone's a member of the USPA. EG, in the UK, D license holders have 1000 jumps minimum... Ozzys have E and F (?) licenses. Jump numbers have their disadvantages... but at least they're global. Any ideas on a third way?
  18. There was a very similar show on UK TV a year or so ago. The premise was that it was live with a plane full of D list celebs circling above an airfield. The audience then voted on which celeb they would throw out of the plane (tandem). Of course in reality it was all filmed weeks in advance and they either just fixed the votes or just threw each celeb out in turn and cut the video to work later. Whole thing went tits-up as Cheryl Baker, who was voted out, didn't lift her legs (you could actually hear the instructor yelling for her to do so) and broke her ankle. She’s there sobbing on the ground trying to make it look like everything’s fine and the dumb presenter’s trying to interview her. Made the whole thing look really bad. Just proves that all you need is one minor incident or mal and the idea of showing people the sport in a positive light ends up as another one of those “daredevil in death plunge shocker” type shows. Other than that risk I don’t have much of a problem with the idea as a concept… it’s just been proved to be a risky. To increase the skydiving exposure, how about you see if you can get them to allow you to tie in local skydiving teams to the fun? They’re showing rugby players and whatnot making mistakes – how about you get the local FF, RW CRW team etc. to also nominate a member who screwed up. Then show a short clip of the screw up (no mals and the more amusing the better. It doesn’t have to actually be from that week either, ie just use the best footage that fits and tell a ‘TV’ lie). This can be done with the aim of highlighting the skill involved in competition skydiving. How often do we get asked “how do you actually compete at falling out of the sky?” We all know it looks easy – this could be a way of showing people how difficult competition skydiving actually is.
  19. Yup - those are the stats. Gun crime about doubled between 97 and 2001; since then it has remained stable. Meanwhile overall violent crime has fallen by 36% over the same period. Those figures are correct. However, the article you quote misstates that violent crime has risen by 11% since last year. This is incorrect. Reported crime increased by 12% but this is attributed to NCRS and other changes. The appropriate figure is provided by the BCS as being a fall in violent crime of 3% between 2002/3 and 2003/4. Apparently not even The Times is immune to reporting errors. I’m not trying to characterize anything. I’m simply providing the actual statistics from the document your Times article misquotes. Those statistics are not mine – they are the official statistics collected by the BCS and Police and collated by the Home Office. If you feel that a statistic showing a 36% fall in violent crime since 1995 characterizes a fall in violent crime, that characterization can hardly be attributed to me. As I indicated above; I don't think any of the above statistics have much to do with the 97 firearms legislation. They are merely linked temporally. The 97 act was not designed to have a great affect on criminals who possess guns. It was not even designed to have much of an effect on overall criminal activity. As I keep saying, the reason why Parliament legislated in 97 was to tackle the ownership of firearms by private individuals who were ordinarily law abiding citizens. That was the target of the legislation. That target was largely achieved. The fact that criminals still have firearms is no surprise – the 97 legislation had no effect and moreover was not intended to have much of an effect on that section of the community. That people believe it was is down to newspaper nonsense, pressure group propaganda and political spin for partisan gain.
  20. The US administrations "official" line to the media and public is that it's not happening and that it's all science bunkum. If you look a little closer however you will see quiet but explicit admissions that global warming is happening and all the scientists are right... because to acutally denie it would make them look like complete idiots. What's the US govt. doing doing to prevent this sort of climate change? Nada. Zilch. Zero. Zip. Just look at the Kyoto agreement .
  21. Cheers, I'd seen and even posted in some of them. Seeing as you live near - what's the best time of year to visit? I've got a provisional window of May/June/July sort of time... but that's only because I figured thats when you get the best weather. When would you go? I'm completely open to suggestions.
  22. Take a look at this new product L&B have just unvieled. Looks like it's exactly what you're all asking for. http://www.l-and-b.dk/optima.html
  23. A lot of the old war movies shot during and immediately after WWII are brilliant as pretty much everyone in the film including the extras had military training and were just doing what they did but on film. They also feature stacks of original equipment that was just sat there at the time. Try Ice Cold in Alex or The Longest Day (two of my faves).
  24. Same here - 5%... maybe I should have counted that time I went in a white streached humvee as two "yes" answers?

    BPA AGM 2005

yeah - got a great shot of swify and al at about 2am arguing over how one of the tables got broken. It was drunkenly explaned to the camera that one of them laid their cock out onto the table which then broke under the weight alone... he went to great lengths to explain that that he didn't drop it onto the table or anything, but that it was just the weight alone which caused the table to break.
