How about this as an idea: Agree to provide reparations for their great great grand-pappy's capture and slavery. Reparations are meant to put the injured party back in the position they were in before you screwed up; so simply agree to take them and all other descendants of great great grand-pappy back to Africa where he was captured and leave them there. As a good will gesture they can even have 40 acres and a mule as well. Of course they only get 1 mule to share between all of the descendants; after all they all have equal title to grand-pappy's payout.

Flights booked. FFadventures here I come

I'm in the UK too. It's not that bad - besides you'll be coming back to your first UK DZ ready for the best of the weather. I did my FS1 over here... cost me the same as any other skydive. Had three friends fill the slots on the 4 way and another fly outside camera. Showed that to the CCI together with my log book and I was signed off. As I said the key thing is getting the skills not the sticker. If you have the skills you can demonstrate them any time and get the sticker. hehe - hang arround a while - they'll find you PS, think it was someone else recommending cali/birdman etc. -
Try buying one from Icarus with less than 500 jumps.

Yes it will definitely. Look at it as learning skills rather than qualifications. Even if you don’t come back with the qualification, you’ll come back with a lot of the skills it requires. Thus even if you miss out on FS1 in the states it shouldn’t take you too long back in the UK to obtain it. -
To add to Derek's perfectly correct answer - we don't have S&TA's in the UK; they're a US position. The closest you'll find to one here is our CCI or Center Chief Instructor. Their jobs are broadly the same with regard to their duties on the DZ.

Man I'm glad I didn't have your professor back when I did the first of my law degrees. Did your tort class given by a UK professor explain what a Barrister is?

"no" would have been quicker to type

IIRC FS1 is 10 jumps if you don't have to repeat anything. That's like 2 days easy jumping if the weather's good. Of course repeats push that back, as would having to wait for packing or instructors who have a busy job to do... but it's doable just. Don't be downhearted if you don't make FS1 out there, although it has been done before. -
Let us know what you find. Have someone let us know what you found and when you're likely to be discharged.

Sadly you are talking arse. Truth is a complete defense to any form of Libel action in the UK. Trust me on that one. The problem the Telegraph ran into was that its only evidence for the allegations it made was this one document. That, in case you haven't guessed, is the same document the Senate now relies upon. The Senate also appears to have confused themselves over the status of the documents used by the Christian Science Monitor... who subsequently admitted that their documents were forged and paid out to Galloway again for libel. The document the Senate is waiving around is such weak evidence that it did not stand up in court. When Galloway challenged the Senate to provide any further evidence of their claims they were unable to do so. If Galloway were to take the Senate to court in the UK for libel, from the information that is in the public domain, it is more than likely that he would win.

From the initial post: I'm guessing his "etc" would have included stall characteristics. Which would you prefer? An otter with a side door or an otter with a nice big tailgate that didn't do anything to change any of the plane's other dynamics?

Is having someone PCA you an option?

Thankfully Georgia's consumers affair office does have standing to deal with Skyrides activities within Georgia. They may therefore go on to investigate the activities that have been brought to their attention (irrespective of by whom) and prosecute using their good standing.

but that's a wednesday - I never could get the hang of wednesday's. [sic]

All else equal I'd take the tailgate over the side door.

Yeah - that's Kevin. Went to school with him; nice guy. Moved out there in about 94/95 with his folks.
-
The guy's an arse. But he's in the right here; very much so. The Senate has behaved deplorably by making the statements they have about him. If they were to publish their reports in the UK Galloway would jump up and down on them with our libel laws and walk away with another couple of million just like he did after the Telegraph made similar allegations based on the SAME documents! Seriously – the Senate are relying on documents which have already been tested in court and have failed to come up to proof. I can't believe the Senate is actually trying to rely on documents which when analyzed show... get this... the whole of the document is in 1 typeface except for Galloway's name. That entry is in a different typeface, at a different angle to the rest of the document, in a lighter shade of ink and was entered at a later date, before the document was finally photocopied. Now I'm sorry, but if your only piece of evidence will not stand up in court then you cannot go round making accusations about someone that will ruin their career. That is slander and defamation and if the Senate pushes I wouldn't be surprised if Galloway goes on to collect his 3rd damages payout in a row in relation to these same allegations. (Christian Science Monitor also paid out to him for libel after they admitted relying on forged documents in making essentially the exact same claim as the Senate now makes).

Nope - was overseas where twas legal and did like 70 jumps in the week and a half preceding my first camera jump. Kept it relatively sensible.

Don't let stories give you the shits about using the sabre caspar - its a perfectly good canopy. Seriously. Line stows should take 10-12lb of force before releasing the lines. Take a look at this great article by PD: http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/hrdopn.pdf That'll probably answer all of your questions and then some you didn't know you had. Glad to see you liked your first pack job - didn't slam you did it. You didn't even do anything with the nose of the canopy either.

Clerics threaten holy war over alleged Quran desecrations
mr2mk1g replied to rhino's topic in Speakers Corner
Christ man why are you even trying to argue with me. I say Bush fucked up with his crusade comment. You say "His comment was inept" - where in the hell do we differ? Neither of us think he was truly declaring a holy war, just that his comment was, to use your own words, "inept". Why is your jaw still flapping??? -
Your research provides conclusions somewhat different to those which my research provides.

Are there skydivers without injuries?

I scraped my ankle yesterday (2005) pretty badly exiting the plane in a funky 4-way tube exit. I told the guy to sit further out of the door. It'll probably be fine by tomorrow. On the other hand my diaphragm still separates from my rib cage when you press on it on the left hand side because of a mountain biking accident in about 2000. My jaw still clicks when I move it thanks to a rather less than gregarious gentleman outside a working men's club one night back in 1997. I can dislocate my right ring finger at will thanks to a rather misguided, although successful, attempt to break someone else’s nose in about 1994. I have a permanent 2in cruciform scar on my arse from an Alsatian dog that bit me in about 88. And I have a permanent scar on my forehead from when I jumped off a radiator in Poland in about 1982 after my mother told me my shoulder blades were where my wings were supposed to attach. Still... I'm only at the beginning of my jumping career. You be the judge. -

Clerics threaten holy war over alleged Quran desecrations
mr2mk1g replied to rhino's topic in Speakers Corner
To clarify: I quoted: "Looks like a holy war is coming.. OOPS.. my bad.. one is already happening???" And pointed out that when we went into the Gulf, Bush made a statement that it was a "crusade". That by any measure was a really big mistake as the first two definitions (by your own admission) of the word is that it is a holy war. Whether he meant that he was starting a holy war or not is immaterial, we all know that's rather unlikely. That does not change the fact that telling a bunch of Muslims that he was starting a crusade was a really bad idea... crusade translates directly into the concept of jihad. Rhino laments the fact that there’s already a holy war going in... I merely point out that yes there is – Bush told the whole Muslim world that he was starting one on them. Unfortunate and understandable as that mistake was – that is what he told them. I feel sorry for you if you find that point obtuse. Maybe you were confused by the fact that it is something of an aside to the thread’s main topic. Now please explain to me where in the world you got the concept that I in some way intimated that newsweek are blameless in the current situation regarding the reports about the flushing of a Koran, or that the fact that Muslims rioted over the reports was Bush’s fault, or any of the other off the wall accusations you level at me in your first reply. Again, perhaps you were confused by the fact that my point was an aside.
