  1. Large difference between "taking an order" and making repairs/alterations to a jump suit. Thats why some people are riggers and some people are jumpsuit manufactures, I don't work on jumpsuits and they don't work on parachutes/harness/containers. 2. Rob, There is a group of sailors on the east coast, deb group or something, that have been going to the Silhouette 300 and a 360 or 370 for some high altitude weapons barrel jumps. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  3. That is like comparing apples with dirt. The canopies used in ejection seats are round and built to withstand greater forces then even a sports reserve. Then they are reefed down so deployment is 250 KEAS or less even if the ejection was initiated at 600 KEAS plus. You main and reserve for sure is designed to withstand a deployment speed far greater the 130-135. There is a good chance they will take a faster deployment then you can without damage. 4. Saved mine own on more then one occasion.! Thank you, there is nothing in the world like having the chance to make a difference in someones life. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. There are two measurements in a canopy deployment. Time and distance. In a sub-terminal opening the time is greater but the distance is less. At terminal the distance is greater and the time is less. The important thing is to be open before impact. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  6. Testing to receive a TSO, AS8015-B Minimum Performance Standards for Parachute Assemblies and Components, Personnel, is a lot like jumping. You can do everything right and still be wrong. As Mick said, you can have 5 different people read AS8015-B and get 6 different interpretations. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  7. No self respecting rigger I know "likes" working on booties. Booties are usually nasty smelling huge waists of time resulting in the person doing the repair never getting paid what his or her time is actually worth. Every one wants the 5$ repair when to do a really good job will usually take an hour or more. $5 bucks an hour...shit! I'd do better then that working at McDonalds I agree, riggers work on A/C egress systems and other such life saving stuff. Jumpsuits are a pain in the ass. I can build a 26' Tri-Con in the time it takes to repair a jumpsuit. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. Spent almost 30 years as a Firefighter.
  9. Hi Sparky, No I don't. The majority of the information (from the late 90s and early 00s at least) was collected via internet reporting, as Tom mentioned, by Barry Brummit. THE IPC/FAI information would certainly make a good tally though and I'll be looking into it. SOme kinds souls have translated and forwarded official reports from their parachuting organisations (notably Germany and Finland (although I believe the Finnish reporting is no more)) which have been included. I also have a stack of back issues of Parachutist, Skydiving, and Sports Parachutist that I am working my way through trying to collate more historical information and also fill in any gaps. Thanks for jumping in. I was not sure how the information on the site was gathered. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  10. "About a thousand." How long does your friend expect a D-bag to last without some upkeep? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  11. If you read the rest of the posts in this thread, you will see Special Provisions mentioned. The heading on the list is "Special Provisions for Parachute Jumps". The first paragraph states: "These Special Provisions are an integral part of the Certificate of Authorization". They come attached to the 7711-1 and list anything and everything the issuing inspector can think of. It is here that the hook turn is addressed. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  12. I think you forgot me. Remember "Da Base"? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  13. The hardest thing for a demo jumper to do sometimes is to "Say No". To have jumped in the conditions you described would have been ego writing a check your ass might not have been able to cash. You made a decision that showed common sense and "Professionalism". Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  15. Each national aero club (like USPA) collects data from their own country. There is a specific duty to identify and report accidents, and an established structure for those reports. Most other nations are smaller, have fewer drop zones, and less jump activity than the USA, so it is even easier for the national aero club to identify accidents than it is for USPA. Further, the standard of collection and participation is consistent from season to season and year to year. It's a better and far more reliable data source, but in many cases it doesn't offer as much narrative detail as Internet reports, and the collection is much slower. I would be interested to know if the source I quoted uses the IPC/FAI as a source for their data. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  16. Harry, I think it would be great to use that as a test. As long as it is set up for new Pro Rating, use it for renewals also. Sparky PS: If you can get it set up, I will try it. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  17. Have you ever wondered why your nickname is Crater? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  18. It ain't you big guy. Nice picture in Parachutist.. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  19. Thats what I said, ten times in a ten meter circle. I just said it shorter. Nice 100 ways today. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  20. Tom, I am not saying the numbers I posted are the final word, they are just numbers I located on the net. But why would IPC/FAI numbers be any more reliable? How do they collect their data, what sources do they use that the other site would not have access to? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  21. Hop & Pops are jumps from any altitude where you deploy your canopy as soon as you leave the A/C, also known as Clear & Pulls. Hypoxia is a condition brought on by inadequate oxygen supply to the brain. It can be anything from mild to fatal. I have no idea what aeriel loads means. 22. I am not sure of the wording, my copy is at home and I am not, but I think it says something about landing within a 10 meter circle 10 times in row. To me landing means standing still in the 10 meter circle. If you can't do this, a tight demo target is out of your range. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  23. The source is identified in the post. Double click "source". My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  24. I don't think hook turns are banned, I think passing too low over people and landing too close to them is banned. I don't think speed and approach are mentioned in the regs. With that said, I don't like to see hook turns at demos. It's exciting enough for the crowd without all that. I use a 90 degree riser turn at most. I do jump with some really good flyers, though, that can handle it. Hook turns are almost always forbidden in the special provision list attached the the 7711-1. The special provisions will list things like, must wear a square, steerable reserve, winds can't exceed 15 mph, must have jumped any flags, banners before, shit like that.
