Horny Guerilla on Non-Freefly gear
mjosparky replied to Fireflyer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What a Horny Gorilla started out as was a round with up to 6 jumpers. On the key, everyone throws their legs to the center and maintains the wrist grips. If everything is timed right it looks like a big bowl and gains speed really fast. Letting go of the wrist grips came sometime later and with the grab what you can leg grips is kink of tough to pull off. As for your question, I would say you can wait awhile to try one. Get a little more air time and rig that is a little safer for that type of dive. The sky will always be there. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
How Much Do Instructors Make?

If the time is taken to do complete investigation, every malfunction and incident can be traced to a "cause". I am not a big believer in FM, or "just because". Everything that happens has a cause. Just because it cannot be identified with a cursory investigation does not mean it does not exist. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

As Phree said, get with a rigger and learn to pack your main the right way. Start slow and speed will come with practice. If you don't have time to pack correctly, you don't have time to jump. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Rob, It is not a waiver, it is written in to Part 105 as of 2001. What they may have had in years past was a 7711-1 for some of Part 105. Sparky § 105.49 Foreign parachutists and equipment.(a) No person may conduct a parachute operation, and no pilot in command of an aircraft may allow a parachute operation to be conducted from that aircraft with an unapproved foreign parachute system unless—(1) The parachute system is worn by a foreign parachutist who is the owner of that system.(2) The parachute system is of a single-harness dual parachute type.(3) The parachute system meets the civil aviation authority requirements of the foreign parachutist's country.(4) All foreign non-approved parachutes deployed by a foreign parachutist during a parachute operation conducted under this section shall be packed as follows—(i) The main parachute must be packed by the foreign parachutist making the next parachute jump with that parachute, a certificated parachute rigger, or any other person acceptable to the Administrator ii) The reserve parachute must be packed in accordance with the foreign parachutist's civil aviation authority requirements, by a certificated parachute rigger, or any other person acceptable to the Administrator My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

After a reserve repack I look at my card and....
mjosparky replied to 321seeya's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
One thing bothers me about the data card, the seal symbol appears to be three letters. For several years now they have been 2 letters and a number. They ran out of combinations possible with 3 letters. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

Once again, I have never heard of a TSO waiver. TSO's have nothing to do with USPA or drop zones, they are issued by the FAA. Are you thinking of a waiver to BSR's? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Do you see the 3 digits next to the word pending? Those are the Seal Symbols he was issued by the DPRE when he passed his practical test. Sundevill777, A DZ does not have to accept the signature on any data card, but "pending" followed by the seal symbols is legal with the FAA. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
It depends on where all of this gear was made and weather it is approved by the country where the foreign jumper is from. I have never heard of DZ having a TSO waiver. Could you explain? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Interesting answer. How can people jump military gear? Mil gear doesn't have a TSO. Remember, we went through this before. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Perris Valley Skydiving Society

You said this rigger was a poor packer, I didn't. If it was a good pack job, that still leaves poor body position, as in one shoulder low. Tension knots are caused by some lines still being slack when the rest of the lines become loaded. One shoulder low as in looking back at the deployment will create this situation. And I agree with you, a very high percentage of the packing in the sport is abysmal, which says a lot for the reliability of the ram air parachute. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Quote...are you sure? Quote Very sure. Almost all "skydiving helmets" are either a place to mount a camera and/or offer minimal protection. The lining is thin and of poor material to absorb energy. Do a search, there was a thread discussing helmets and on poster, who claimed to have worked for a major M/C helmet manufacture some of the material that is used in "good" helmets. He stated that of the ones he has seen, ProTec was by far the best at offering protection to the head. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

"I jumped in the 70s so I'll be OK"
mjosparky replied to teason's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
A lot of jumper who "used to jump in the 70's" can't remember the 70's. Except you and me, right. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
All reserves are designed and tests to 1.2 times the speed and weight listed in the manual. That weight can be no less then 265 lb. and 180 KEAS for single harness parachute assembles, 480 lb. and 210 KEAS for dual harness parachute assemblies. (tandem) But it can be more. And trust me, opening at 180 KEAS, 207 MPH, will hurt you at any weight. The only reefing on a sports square, reserve or main, is the slider and at that speed is is not that effective. What he said. Protection wise, Protecs are better than 90% of "skydiving" helmets (including Boneheads). What are some of the helmets designed for skydiving that you feel would fall in the 10% that are better protection then a ProTec? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

At the stroke of midnight on the 25th of Sept. your rig will no longer meet the requirements of FAA Part 105.43. That is unless you get it repacked before then. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
