  1. If you were smart enough to graduate from college, don't be stupid now and try this stunt. Hell, you may pull it off and you may get away with it but I doubt it. Now that you have a degree you should behave like an adult. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. Terry, I just thought of something. Weren't all GQ Security canopies older then 15 years classified as "non air worthy" when GQ merged with Irvin? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  3. I can send email from my dropzone account but I can't receive any. Am I doing something wrong? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  4. For what its worth. Canopies manufactured under TSO-C23d are required to have a decent rate no greater than 24 fps. In the Operational Requirements Document for the new ATPS, they call for a decent rate no greater then 16 fps with a 300 pound load. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. QuoteNaw, there are plenty of 182s out there STCed for 5 jumpers, not as uncommon as "turbine babies" think. My point was, any aircraft can stall with jumpers outside, it takes a pilot working the controls and anticipating the drag to keep it from stalling. Quote An STC does not cover how many jumpers you can put in the plane. That is dependent on how many seat belts and how much they all weigh. An aircraft can stall at any speed with or without jumpers outside. It takes the jumpers working with the pilot to prevent this. Be reasonable about how many are outside and don't take forever to stack the exit. Getting one more person outside is not going to make any difference, in most cases, on how the dive goes and will more then likely screw up the exit. 6. Ah yes, the Strato Flyer. The main reason I have 500 round jumps instead of about 150... Why on earth would I want to jump something like that? And all the other squares were bigger than my round (which put me down softly). Squares were not always better than rounds, were they Wendy W. Hell, my first square, a Strato Cloud, weighed almost as much as you do. It was way bigger then my Piglet. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  7. Hell, I was a Corpsman assigned to the Marines, Goldn 2/3, and I didn't get to jump a Huey. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. I'm guessing you don't know a whole lot about G-meters in general. Most G-meters are single axis and for most uses . . . that's just fine. For instance, the G-meters in most aerobatic aircraft are only single axis. Of course, most of the older ones are mechanical (basically a spring scale) and it would really be too complicated/expensive to built mechanical multiple axis meters. I have non skydiving problems I've thought about solving, but I'm not really a circuit guy. Just trying to imagine how many problems this device is a solution to. GPS receivers would allow more, but the precision, esp in the altitude, is not very good at the speeds I'm concerned with. Does anyone have any idea what he is talking about? 9. I agree, you are right Terry. But Groundzero doesn't know that. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  13. I don't think so.... (Sangiro, we need a separate "riggers Forum" where people don't guess about things like this. Many current canopies manufactured under that spec are built of 0-3 cfm and even zero p fabric... Chris (but I'm not a rigger, so I don't want to speculate...) There are no canopies being manufactured under TSO-C23b and there hasn't been since April 25, 1984. I am not guessing about this, it is fact. And, yes, you were speculating. Do you have anything else helpful to add? Rigger examiner for lap, I don't think so. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  15. Terry, I think you are mixing TSO-C23b with TSO-C23c. TSO-C23b had 2 categories, Standard and Low speed. They were "dummy weight and indicated air speed to give the equivalent of 3000/5000 lbs. shock load" TSO-C23c had 3 categories: A - 198 lb./130 knots B - 254 lb./150 knots C- 254 lb./ 175 knots TSO-C23b superseded NAS-804 by calling for a descent rate of not more than 25 fps as opposed to 21 fps. (PPM Vol. I, page 9) But you are right, it is with just 170 lbs. A canopy with a descent rate of 21 fps at 254 lb. would be a bitch to carry to the plane. A canopy old enough to have been manufactured under TSO-C23b would probably have a cfm of over 100. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  18. While you agree, you are still going to contend that there is no cause. Wrong. I know it hurts, but you should try saying it, just once. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  19. As you know, there was no set weight, just weight and speed to equal 3000 lb. I would guess what ever you think you body can take. At 200 lb. I think they have a decent rate of around 25 FPC. Ouch. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  20. You were told wrong, a canopy opens slower at slower speeds. If you took a "nice 5-10 second freefall" from 3,000 feet it was not a hop & pop. It was a 5-10 second freefall. Maybe you should let one of the instructors explain to this jumper what to do not these jumps. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  22. I had forgotten about that. It wasn't much thicker than a kids balloon. You can always get one like Booth had. It had a build-in GPS and ELT. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  23. How many people have you taught to pack in the one year you have been jumping? And yes packing and learning how to pack correctly is a big deal. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  25. Para-Gear used to have one in their catalog, but discontinued it several years ago. It was great as long as you didn't have to use it. If you check out their site, they list 3 or 4 different ones. Para-Gear Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
