  1. And what is wrong with having goals in skydiving. If they don't want me to jump with them, I can always be used as a boy toy to relieve the tension of chasing a world record.
  2. How do you think he survived in this sport for all those years? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  3. I am just quoting the SIM. You don't think there is any chance that someone would violate one of the BSR's do you?
  4. Will the RWS be able to give me the dimensions and tolerances on the risers made by Aerodyne? The ones with their new "MiniForce" rings? Those are the ones I was referring to. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  7. Are you going to respond to this post? "Yes I am. And you did not answer the question. What need did they fill, and what problem did the fix? Could it be that they are cheaper, lighter, were stylish when first introduced and thought to be easer to install? Why is it that sports gear is the only gear that went to the Rapide link? This thread is not about placement of a PC. " Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  9. I'll take the first week of July. Anyone else want in? Because you all have pissed him off by pointing out the obvious, I think he will over compensate. I take one of the next two jumps. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  11. And before there were rapide links there were "connector links". What problem did the rapide links solve or what need did they fill. Could it be that they were lighter with less pack volume? When did L-links become weak, bulky, heavy and hard to use? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  13. Not hard to guage what altitude someone deploys at. Watch enough deployments and you'll get good at it. Is it your opinion that the BSR's should be done away with? It's not hard to guage when they exit below their minimum either. I've been on hop n' pop runs where almost the entire load got out at 1900ft and had a great laugh about it watching the video when they got down. One guy even did a half a dozen barrel rolls on exit. Maybe he had an E license. I rode the plane down with one or two other jumpers (none of us because of a regulation). No points for guessing how many of those guys pulled above their regulation minimums let alone had a working canopy above them by their personal hard decks. Tell me again who's going to enforce pull altitude. Regulation needs to match the culture and guys making a high 'base' jump from a plane with a parachute rig aren't even thinking about that reg. Now we can wait for the old timers and base jumpers to chime in about what a pussy I am for riding those loads down and we'll all have a clear picture of the value of regulations that don't match the culture. Some regulations are used capriciously when it's convenient to reign someone in. This is even advocated and planned by people proposing new regulations "don't worry it won't apply to you we'll only use it when we need to control a guy who does xyz, you'll be free to flout this one most weekends" If you can't live by the rules then don't pass them, or better yet pick a rule most can live by. If jumpers flout BRSs without any waiver then what's the point of them, it's meaningless window dressing. In this context your question w.r.t. BSRs being abolished is only barely rhetorical. 15. I think he is asking if it fails, can the manufacturer just try again with the same reserve? Kinda like getting your PRO rating, nothing says you can't just try again to get 10 in a row. Ihaven't read anything that says you can't try again with the same design if it fails a drop test. I didn't check all of the, but TSO C23D requires the same reserve/harness, whatever be used for all the drop tests. Derek During the strength tests, AS8015B 4.3.4, three tests will be made at not less then 264 pounds and not less then 180 KEAS. “There shall be no evidence of material, stitch, or functional failure that will affect airworthiness. The same canopy, harness, component, and/or riser(s) shall be used for all 4.3.4 test.” (quote from AS8015B) Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  16. Off topic, but I'm curious as to your thoughts on the Aerodyne 3-ring? _Am First of all, what problem do they fix? Try and come up with the manufacturing spec. to use as a guide when doing an inspection. I recently saw 2 sets, 4 risers, lined up and they all had different measurements. How do you tell which one is correct? Or if they are all correct, what are the allowable tolerances? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  17. It is a good thing that what you think does not have a bearing on how reserve canopies are made. It would be to your benefit and safety to learn more about your equipment before coming to such bold conclusions. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  18. No that is not correct, not even close. It must pass as many as 70 some odd drop and live tests. TSO is not just about testing. It is about quality control during manufacturing, certification of materials used in manufacturing and materials traceability. There is more involved in being issued a TSO than most skydivers bother or even care to find out about. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  19. You are right, it is not that difficult to do it right. Why would someone suggest to a new jumper to do it wrong. And leaving this little item out is just asking for trouble. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  20. I don`t know, I`ve found easier to push in the packet that way. Then you should pack it that way because it is easier. The easier way is always safer in this sport. Anyone who has been jumping for awhile knows the this Booth guy doesn’t know shit about hand deploys. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  21. Soft housings never had a reason to be in existence. They did not fix a problem but they caused a few. A good example of trying to fix something that is working fine. The 3 ring cutaway system, risers, harness ring, housings, cables and handle, have been around for over 20 some years. I have yet to see anyone develop an improvement to any of those components with the exception of some redesign of the handle. Any change that has been attempted has led to problems where there were none before. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  22. did these come from faa.gov? They came from this site. Supplemental Type Certificates Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  24. Here are just 3 of the STC's on Cessna 100 series aircraft for door removal that you say are not needed. (see attachment) The list is long and includes all Makes of aircraft. As I posted before: "A supplemental type certificate (STC) is a type certificate issued when an applicant has received FAA approval to modify an aircraft from its original design. The supplemental type certificate, which incorporates by reference the related type certificate, approves not only the modification but how that modification affects the original design.” These are the FAA's words not mine. They say a 337 is needed. If you don't agree, take it up with them. A pilot can not add or remove anything to an aircraft, it must be an A&P unless the pilot is the builder of a homebuilt. Pilots are certificated to fly airplanes not work on them. If they were certificated to work on them they would be called mechanics. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
