Go look at just about any reserve ripcord assembly out their today and see if they have the following. AS8915-B Markings: 4.2.2 Primary Actuation Device/Ripcord: The following information shall be marked on the primary actuation device/ripcord: a. Part number, including dash number b. Manufacturer’s identification c. TSO-C23( ) d. Batch, serial number, or date of manufacture (month and year) Would have saved a lot of trouble during the pin problem. Unpack both canopies and fluff them up, place them in net or mesh bags and store the everything in closet that you know will remain cool, dry and rodent free. Good luck on the surgery. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Who should reline a canopy? Rigger? Master Rigger? Factory?
mjosparky replied to kitof1976's topic in Gear and Rigging
They are not, but most try to understand them as best they can. After all they are they (Part 65, Part 105) are the rules we are expected to know. Just as a Pilot is expected to know and under stand those FAA Parts that pertain to flying a plane. As a pilot you should already know this. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
My opinion is that this plane will probably never be used for skydiving. The whole thing was likely a publicity stunt to get more skydivers to visit Perris so that their new wind tunnel would flourish. Pat Conatser is the “Ross Perot” of the skydiving industry. My guess is that he never had any real intention of ever having the plane fly skydive loads. He knew it would take years of red tape to even get the FAA to consider the DC-9 as a jump plane. Long story short…… To fly this plane, you have to turn the skydiving operation at Perris into a true airline like United or JetBlue. It sounds crazy but it’s the easiest way to make this type of skydiving a reality. Pat Conatser probably never thought that a slackened maintenance cycle would ever get approval for such a sophisticated and complex aircraft. When the news leaked that the aircraft’s speculative new maintenance cycle got approved, Pat realized that the fancy new paint job wouldn’t be enough keep the locals interested in the plane. Now these damn skydivers actually want to fly it, and jump out of it! I think the DC-9 will eventually pull a disappearing act. One day we’re going to show up and the plane just won’t be there. The official word will be something along the lines of "ohh shit! someone must have left the keys in the ignition" Do they sell Lo Jack systems for aircraft? Maybe Pat should have used all that money to cut skydivers a break on jump tickets? That’s just my opinion. I think you don't know Pat very well and I also think your opinion is wrong. Look for the jet to fly jumpers. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

As a rigger I do. My statement was that as a someone not holding an FAA rigger certificate that you had strong opinions on the FAR's And what would that reason be? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
I have seen people try before. If the lines do not come off the links and the risers do not come off the harness, anything you do can be undone by clearing the steering lines. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I don't think the color of the tread is a requirement no matter who does the work. For someone not holding a riggers certificate issued by the FAA you seem to have some pretty strong opinions on how to apply FAR's. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

Sorry, not so, and the proof is from mathematics. If the parachute was straight before it was tangled, and if it was not disconnected, then when you have untangled any two adjacent lines from canopy to link(s) on straight risers, the rest of the lines will be straight as well. Mark I agree with you. If the parachute was hooked up correct to begin with and has not been cut-away, all you do is run the steering lines down and the rest of the canopy will be straight. In the same situation on a round, run the 4 lines in a 4 line check untill they are clear and the rest will be clear. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I am saying it is big, heavy and does not make a good sports rig. They are no more dangerous then then the person using it, but they are different. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

If you read down a bit more Part 65 says the following: § 65.129 Performance standards. No certificated parachute rigger may— (a) Pack, maintain, or alter any parachute unless he is rated for that type; (b) Pack a parachute that is not safe for emergency use; (c) Pack a parachute that has not been thoroughly dried and aired; (d) Alter a parachute in a manner that is not specifically authorized by the Administrator or the manufacturer; (e) Pack, maintain, or alter a parachute in any manner that deviates from procedures approved by the Administrator or the manufacturer of the parachute; This would appear to say that you need approval for anything that is not already in the manual. USPA/NON USPA DROP ZONE QUESTION

Read the part on your USPA membership card. It says "while the member is jumping at a sanctioned drop zone." Problem is it does not say sanctioned by whom. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
