    The apex vent does not prevent oscillations. It vents high pressure air during deployment reducing opening shock. The come is a variety of sizes and designs. Vents such a “double L”, 5TU and tri-vent are designed to prevent oscillations by allowing air to vent out one side of the canopy. A by product of this is limited forward speed.     This is the key phrase. The are working in skydiving. Do you want a job or do you want to skydive for recreation and fun. Spend a couple of weekends at a DZ and see how many of the instructors or other staff make any fun loads at all. Any time you start to work at what you do for fun it becomes a "JOB".     Go up and make 3 or 4 jumps with a video flyer and have them video you opening from different angles. That should give a good idea what you and the canopy are doing on opening. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

    They will usually appear in early afternoon on a warm to hot day. As the winds starts to move the air mass around it crosses over various surface types. Hot air rising off of a hot stretch of asphalt will get pushed over a patch of cooler grass and start to spin. If the temperature difference and the wind speed is right it turns into a “dust devil”. If you observe your home DZ for a while you will notice that they usually start in the same areas. At my home DZ it seems to be north of the hanger, just south of the grass landing area and at the point of Case Road and the cannel. Several years ago there was a fatality at this point when someone who had already landed got picked up by a “dust devil” and when he was slammed back down the injuries proved fatal.     If you look where his hands are you will see he is in deep brakes. There are not many nine cell canopies that can make that steep of an approach. Sparky ... actually, Sparky, you CAN make that kind of "deep brakes" approach on a 9-Cell canopy... the approach may go plenty steep... its the landing that's really gonna likely SUCK! No you (not me)can make that kind of "steep" approach on a 9-cell. Just let me know when you do it, I would like to watch. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

    Keith, I am glad to hear that you handled the problem and landed safely. Has your main ever been re-lined that you know of? That might be something to look at. If you are doing Wuest Ways Sat. you will have to tell me all about it. He was not grounded, imo, because he had already started EP. I am pretty sure the grounding rule was put into effect for those that have a cypres fire while their main is deploying.     not knowing the DZ nor is opperations....how does having having skybabes and other dudes using the same DZ distract military training?? (do I really need to say?)...train them to suck it up and do there job. In real life they will need to ignore any distractions and perform there duties...why not start to ready them for that aspect in there training?? Does the US military need to go civi to keep costs down and provide proper training?...ousting fun jumpers to save the military from buying a otter??...maybe they need to look at their own spending practices and emulate a well run DZ. Some of the training done by Spec. Op units is best done away from prying eyes and cameras of a drop zone. And you can be assured that these units are very well trained in dealing with “distractions”. It is not just the U.S. Military, several of your own Canadian military units spend time down here training at “civilian” facilities. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

    Because the capture of this point in time would not have happened otherwise! Awesome shot! Caption: This is going to hurt me more than it will hurt you. Its not about getting an "awesome" shot. Its about the student making a safe clean exit. The student is the the reason for being there, the only reason. There was a fatality less then a month ago due in part to a video flyer trying to get an "awesome" shot by flying where he shouldn't have been flying.
