  1. I carried a Navy "hook" knife from an ejection seat survival kit. Each jumpsuit had a pocket on the front near the center chest just below the chest strap. Easy to see and can be reached by both hands. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Westwind is an old Beeech 18 updated with a pair of Pratt & Whitney PT6A-? turboporp engines. with the dame horsepower as a Twin Otter or King Air, but only a dozen jumpers, they slimb like stink, but still need an above-average taildragger pilot to keep them on the runway. There were 2 versions of a turbine D-18. The Westwind and Volpar. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  3. Lines in the right order is one reason I hang every reserve I work on. Hanging the canopy makes this a quick and simple job plus so many other things can be checked with the canopy hanging. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  4. no, but they are at the DZ, and they do see these things.....and for them NOT to say something...well, what the fuck. Both of your points are valid, but unless we were there we have no way of knowing for sure was said and what steps were taken to insure passenger safety. My point was in the final analyses the TI was the person in charge of the jump. The responsibly for that jump rests on his/her shoulders. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. When you say "pulled up" do you mean shifted by the wind speed in freefall? If so you might want to start here and make sure your helmet and goggles fit well and are not the cause of your problem. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  6. A slider is used to "reef" the opening of the canopy. During deployment the slider catches air and slows down the initial opening loads. As was posted earlier, without some form of reefing a ram air deployment at terminal would really f#@# up your day. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  7. Thats easy for you to say. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. For a qualifier: Icarus web site only lists 440 canopies, by ser#, that were effected by that SB. "And no, I personally did not do all of the work, but my shop did. " I just assumed that when you said "I" you meant "I". 5,500 canopy "repairs" is still a lot of repairs. I wasn’t discussing your qualifications, you were. I was asking if you can measure fabric dye in a sample as small as a canopy. You say yes. How? You are probably right that the dye will add some weight and volume to the material, but I am sure the amount found in a canopy sized sample would be undetectable outside of a lab. Enjoy your trip to PST My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  9. No, the french word for link is lien. I was going by PPM said. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  12. The originals were "Rapide links" made by a French company named Mallion.
  13. Have you tried the manufacture? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  14. A friend of mine that I jump with on occasion was with SOG, Cliff Newman, and did make one of the few operational jumps during the Viet Nam era. It would be hard to call it a HALO/HAHO jump as is known today. The ram air parachute was in its infancy as were piggy back rigs. Much has changed in the last 40 years. I do know for a fact that jumps were made in to Afghanistan, into areas controlled by the enemy. These jumps were made using military HALO/HAHO rigs with the landings at elevations as high as 6,000 + MSL. As for the strategy calling for this type of tactic I could only guess but it is my understanding that they did contribute to the success of the overall mission My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  15. There were only 440 canopies total affected by SB #20011025 and you say worked on several hundred of those? That’s still a long was from 5,500 canopies repaired. That comes out to around 340 repairs a year for every year you have been in the sport. But I will go along with what ever you say. About the color in a canopy, I'll ask again. "And this can be measured in a sample as small as a 150 sq. ft. ?" I do not think it could be measured in a canopy of 300 sq. ft. But of course that's just my opinion.
  16. While I am not a TI I have seen the conditions you describe. If this presents an opportunity for important steps to be missed it would represent the procedures I was referring to. But all I can do is suggest a possible action; it is up to those involved in tandems at all levels to use their expertise to develop any changes that might be needed.
  17. You might want to check with the US Spec. Ops. teams that have been doing successful ops. into Afghanistan and Iraq in support of Coalition forces for the past few years before you post such a broad statement. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  22. I am sorry I can't help you this. But I was courous why it has to be an Argus and by Saturday. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  23. The other instructors and the S&TA were not on the jump. Unless you were in the class with this TI you don't know what the examiner taught him. When a TI straps a passenger on they are accepting full responsibility for the out come of that jump. Any TI that is not willing to accept this fact needs to reevaluate being a TI. As has been posted before, tandem jumps have been done for 22 years with just 2 cases of a passenger falling out of the harness. Over that period of time it is likely that every type of passenger, large, small, short, tall, thin and round, have been hooked up. That would lead me to believe that it can be done safely with the present gear. I think everyone involved in tandems, instructors, manufactures, evaluators and DZO need work together and re-evaluate any and all procedures. Not to look for something wrong or point fingers but to see where procedures can be improved for the good of all. jmo My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  24. Lucaya Air is dead. I saw her in Laredo, TX sitting on the ramp minus an engine when I started going down there with my old charter flying job in 2000. About three years ago I flew in there after they had a hurricane coast in and hit Laredo. Lucaya Air was on her back, flipped over from the winds. Her vertical tail was smashed and the wings were bent. I was told that the owners had just hung new engines and were about to get her flying. They had already removed the engines when I saw her broken. I flew in there a few months later and she was gone. The guys at the airport said she was cut up and hauled away. Maybe you drank a beer from a can she was recycled into. Jack That’s how all us old relics of skydiving end up. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
