  1. No, and I wouldn’t let someone perform surgery on me just because they are a Doctor of medicine. But I would let the Boy Scout teach a class in first aid if his knowledge of the subject was up to it. I think my statement is valid. At one time I held a limited teaching credential at the Jr. College level in the state of California. I knew my material cold and the certificate said I was a “Teacher” but I knew better. 2. John, The fact that someone has earned a teaching credential of some type doesn’t automatically mean they are a good teacher. It does indicate that at one time they were a good student. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  3. Page 22 of the January issue of Parachutist has a blurb about a “new” log book that is now available. (see attachment 1) It looks surprisingly like the ones I used for 25 years. (see attachment 2) There are no new ideas just old ones coming back around again. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  4. I no longer jump so it is a moot point with me. I am just trying to understand how someone can be a professional skydiver and not skydive. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. This is just for information only. How to you sign a petition anonymously? I counted 11 such signatures. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  6. We should never be afraid of speaking the truth. Opinions and speculation posted on the internet are just that and not admissible in any court that I know of. I think may you have spent too long living in the cloak and dagger world of BASE. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  7. I didn’t refer to it because I was asking you how you train in that environment in one minute. You posted: I think for the benefit of truth in advertizing you should drop the terms “instructor” and “student”. You are not teaching and they are not learning. 8. Does this sound familiar to anyone else? You stay safe John. FYI I don’t smoke. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  9. And if Dear John wants to do the research he can find a 100 more that fit in the same category. But it is much easier to keep skipping along wearing those rose colored goggles. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  11. Laugh all you want. Landing little parachutes is still the #1 killer in this sport. And I bet they all thought their wing loading was reasonable. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  13. I take it that the ETSO-C23d are different that the FAA TSO-C23d. However, test weight must be not less than 264 lb (119.7 kg) and the test speed must be not less than 180 KEAS (333.4 km/h) for reserve and emergency parachute assemblies; for dual harness parachute assemblies for test weight must not be less than 480 lb (217.7 kg) and the test speed must not be less than 210 KEAS (388.9 km/h). 14. Thats why if you don't look at your whole time in this sport as continued education from the end of your first jump till you quit or die you have the wrong attitude. That just about covers what several people have been trying to convey. There are only 2 reasons not to know something about your gear. One is you are not aware it exist and 2 you can’t be bothered taking the time to find out. Drop zones a littered with knowledgeable people that are willing to spend time teaching. But you have to make the effort. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  15. I call bull shit! In one short year you have talked to “more than a few”? Where in the hell do you jump? In 30 years of jumping all over the country and in a few foreign countries I seen it once and only heard about it a hand full of time. The one I did see shook it off and pull his reserve at about 1500 feet. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  16. They don’t do 5 sec., 10 sec, or even 20 sec. delays anymore. By the time they are let go they already have 3 or 4 minutes of freefall with someone holding them stable. And then if they get in trouble their AAD will save their lives. Like DSE was saying, most of the newer jumpers do not understand how their gear works and could care less. An AAD does not save your life or even open your reserve. All it is designed to do is cut the reserve closing loop if you are going too fast too low. Beyond that, no guarantees. Being unwilling to jump without an AAD is a personal choice. It is the reason for that choice that is often called in to question. Only the individual can answer that. But never kid yourself in to believing that the use of an AAD will prevent you from dying in this sport. More lives have been saved by the simple act of pulling the reserve handle than all the gismos ever invented. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  17. How can you passably train them to do anything in one minute in the confusing, noisy environment of a jump plane? If you had taken the time to properly train the student on how and when to pull the main handle do you think they would do a better job? Why do you refer to them as “students” when there is no teaching going on? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  18. 2 things. Rushing to make the next load and using browed gear while rushing to make the next load. Never has been and never will be a skydive worth it. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  19. Spent some time with Hank last week and he offered his congratulations to the pile. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  20. I've jumped with you. Now that is scary! Sparky ~there I am packin' for a demo and after watchin' me intently you ask... "You really gonna jump that?!" you a highly qualified rigger & well respected demo jumper walkin' away rollin' his eyes... ~now that's kinda scary! I had never seen a parachute folded, not packed, quite that way. I had flash backs to the way my ex-wife folded the laundry. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  21. That was my one and only wrap. Scared the shit out of me. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  22. Congratulations Pat. Jumping with you has always been a high point in my jumping life. Jumping with your heroes makes is so much sweeter. Do you remember your first 4 stack? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  24. First of all round canopies do not have a wing loading. They are measured by rate of decent with X amount of weight. Next ParaSails are not made of the same material that sports parachutes are. It is a much heavier nylon almost like a parapack and it is coated with a rubber like substance that protects it against UV rays and the salt water. The steering is similar to what old time rounds had “back in the day” If the boat loses power over water they will get wet, if it loses power over land someone’s going to the hospital.
