  1. My 72 year old parents finally bought a DVD player for Christmas. Thought they'd never get around to it. Guess it must have been the cheap Wal-Mart prices. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  2. We -had- an Ikea in the near area while I was in college. Neat place to 'dream build' about the future way back then. After establishing a home I went back to Ikea and bought my kitchen table/chairs and china hutch! I knew they would have the quality wood I was looking for...and not break the bank in getting them. Imagine the disappointment when this Ikea closed. :^( Now the closest one is 2 1/2 hours away (and in a very nasty part of town there). So....there's an on-line Ikea? I love that place! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  3. The Steve Scott I mentioned was my Brit AFF instructor in 2000 - don't know the other Steve Scott you mentioned, unless they are the same! Liz Lemme see if I can find a pic of Steve Scott from Perris. Man, that -would- be funny if he had an alter ego! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  4. Not only a mentor of mine, but a friend. Miss you, Jamey! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  5. Really? Wow! I'll have to tell him he's got a groupie next weekend! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  6. A few years ago I had to ride a 'puddle jumper' Twin Otter from one smaller airport to another (commercially). It was I who got the heebie jeebies when I boarded and saw all those seats!! Man, I felt weird (and helpless) riding that plane without a rig in hand (they made me check it there at the door). ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  7. Many sites are strictly information, and you don't see the people who read them getting together to celebrate it. Without the posters, there would never be a dropzone.com record to speak of, hence I don't see the point of lurkers in a record. I completely agree with you, Val. How many people (some not even skydivers) registered only when they HAD to when they wanted to read the "Incidents Forum"? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  8. One spanks. The other bites. Which would you rather have? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  9. Guess you're not looking for this DeHavilland ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  10. You're in my thoughts, Lori. You too, Faber. Ciels- Michele Thanks Michele. I still haven't heard from my cousin and her family, but did get an e-mail from my mother who reported that they were not in Jakarta when the tsunami hit! They are ok. I'm waiting for a first hand account of what's going on there, but am now relieved that they are alive. Lori Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  11. What an article like this tells us is that: 1) The place that got hit was beautiful....nice enough to attract those the 'world' feels are beautiful. It gives dimension to just HOW this dreadful tsunami has shattered a tropical paradise. 2) These places are locations that you and I would have LOVED to have traveled and vacationed. It gives the local consumer a more in depth 'feeling' of loss and perhaps now a 'need' to contribute to the restoration of life and property. 3) Lastly, those who are shallow enough to only care about celebrities just might be drawn to read an article like this and know that they are not immune to disasters. (not you WFFC, 'cause we know that you would care if all that was reported was 'bare land in a wasteland filled with pigmies was hit). An article like this speaks to those who need the added connection. btw, we still have not heard from my cousin and her family. I've sent off another e-mail this morning... ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  12. Please read the WHOLE thread. Lisa took that back. I read the thread, which is why I am posting it.
  13. One more little tid-bit. :^) If we -were- to go by only the rules you linked to, the record wouid -still- be null and void because Rule #5 was not adhered to. "5) A list of all jumpers on the record dive to be posted in the forums within 24 hours of the completion of the dive." No list has of yet surfaced. And it's WAY outside of the time period now. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  14. True. True. It's too bad they have to 'learn' their lesson the hard way, then. Remember the earthquake in Alaska that sent a tsunami down the west coast of the U.S.? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  15. Hey, Zen...agreed rules are in this thread - http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1373378#1373378. For those who are interested in the original rules, check here from 2002: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=81492;search_string=dz.com%20record%20rules;#81492 Let's stop re-inventing the rules of the dz.com record every time we get together to have fun. I looked this up a while ago, and I thought that THESE WERE THE REAL DZ.COM BIG-WAY RULES as posted by Skybytch herself. This is getting confusing. Rosa, The link you posted was in direct response to the "TX Record" where they dirt-dived one formation and then called it a 'record' even though some people went low and never made it back in. The RULE then was born that the record -must- be a completed slot perfect formation in the air. :^) ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

One must have registered before the boogie -and- posted. Sorry guys in Eloy....no soup for you this time around. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  17. Protect your investment (i.e. your camera) with a quality product. Otherwise you just might damage/lose what you bought and be out even more $$ than you originally 'saved'. My take on this is that with a side-mount camera you especially have to make sure there is no entry point between camera and helmet (think risers/lines). I wouldn't recommend mounting a side-mount on top of a Stroboframe (quick release). Therefore, one helmet, one camera. No flexibility to interchange (quickly at least) like a top-mount. Just make sure you've eliminated any snag points. Easier with a custom box, but can be done well with an 'L' bracket. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  18. So, why then does it seem that the locals in this region weren't trained in the same manner? I mean, here in CA we were trained several times/year what to do in the event of an earthquake. Come to think of it, the training didn't stop after leaving school....where I work in a hospital we have the same training....plus triage training now. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  19. Yes, you got -that- right. A team stayed at it's sister motel during the SDC Nationals. The flies were SO thick there that they had to go out and buy those sticky fly-strips to just survive the few days they were there! (yeah, I know that the Toltec might not have -this- share of flies, but they have more of another species of animal creeping in under the doors... ). ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  20. You want him to hate you, don't you? Justin, have a look at Flagstaff. Beautiful area of AZ.
  21. Thanks, Brian. The pictures on the tv news are horrifying. Lori Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  22. So sorry to hear this, Stefan. Family means alot to us here as well. Still haven't heard any news of my cousin and her family. Thought I would by tonight, but no. Lori Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  23. Ok. Here's one not so well known. I have a first cousin and her entire family who live in Jakarta, Indonesia. They are missionaries there (3 bush pilots and a nurse...plus their children) and travel alot throughout the country helping the locals. We have not heard from them since the disaster. We're still hoping and praying. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  24. Picture? It isn't official 'til we -all- get to see proof! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  25. Check out this page of Bonehead's. Attach it to any camera helmet they make. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
