  1. Congratulations, Dad and Mom!
  2. [pfft]"This is your captain speaking... We'll be circling over our intended airport at 13,000' this afternoon... For those who have brought your parachute rigs you can locate your nearest emergency exit and feel free to jump."[/pfft] ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  3. This just in: Palmdale power outage causes all Southern California Airports to shut down! Now, all hospitals that I've worked in have an automatic switch over to a power generator. Seems logical that major airports would have such a system as well. No? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  4. Talked with Cajones a bit at the bar tonight. He was onboard the DC-9 during the test run at Perris today. FAA was flying the jet (one of their test pilots) and they went through stall recovery with the door open! AT 10,000' they stalled the plane and let it drop 500 feet before recovery! The plane responded like a dream and pulled right back into flight with no effort.
  5. Ant attending this year? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  6. So would we rather have it brushed under the rug or come out with fists swinging? Either way the terrorists are there. Should they be ignored or stood up against? Not a political statement, but a legitimate question. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  7. Be creative in your thinking, John. I'm sure you can picture it. ltdiver I'd rather picture Nicole Kidman naked
  8. Ever hear of KISS? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  9. That's the way a lot of DZ's are now. Makes for a much more personal and professional product. If, however, a DZ wants to offer stills (and their cameraflyers can't supply them), there's nothing written that says the DZO can't buy a still camera and have the whole package.

  11. At the little DZ that I learned at the DZO supplied the helmet, video -and- still camera....the film, the tv...everything. Every cameraflyer used the same gear. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  12. To quote Bill and Amy's player/coach (Pat McGowen), "If you're not peeing like a race horse you're not drinking enough water!" Something I remember from last year's team training (also with Pat) which I've taken to heart. I put it into practice each and every hot skydiving day. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  13. Try the suggestion in this thread: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1100512;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  14. Actually, I only use sunglasses -under- my full face helmet (prescription lenses, remember). When I go with my open face helmet I have prescription goggles. The G101 from SportRx. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  15. I debated over buying either Oakleys or Gatorz a year ago. Decided to go for the Oakleys primarily because they made their own prescription lenses and kept the warranty. Gatorz, although very nice, voided their warranty when you put prescription lenses in them. Here's the thread from back then, along with the debate over both their quality and popularity: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1697336;search_string=Gatorz%20Oakley%20ltdiver;#1697336 ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  16. Great group of guys and gals. Here's a google search for a bunch of write-ups about them.
  17. A whimsical tale that puts it all into perspective: ;^) http://groups.google.com/group/rec.skydiving/msg/a975af655df92ae0?hl=en ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  18. Does it even accept an external lens? None of the sites I searched had any thread specifications. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelTechSpecsAct&fcategoryid=174&modelid=12810 http://camcorderinfo.pricegrabber.com/search_techspecs_full.php/masterid=16494926 ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  19. Just know what I see on the big screen at the DZ (when it comes to other's cameras). Crap is crap (Quality image or not. The actual skydiving is a completely different topic). When some of the biggest names in our sport put up a production vs. the 'average' cameraflyer vs the new upstart....it is -very- plain to see. Again, I'm not talking the actual flying portion, but the quality of image. Peace. Oh, and it's Ltdiver.
  20. Forget the coffee...it's the network of communication he's giving us from abroad. For all we know he could be eating bon-bons, but the Internet....we need him for our 'daily bread'! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  21. If you haven't already, try posting this also in the classifieds section. I recently nabbed an extra dbox I was needing there when I posted as needing one.
  22. Stats of Sony examples: DCR-TRV22 Imaging Device: 1/4", 680K Gross Pixels Advanced HAD™ CCD Video Actual: 340K F: 1.7-2.2 Filter Diameter: 30mm 5 Lux HDR-HC3 Imaging Device: 1/3" 2100K Gross Pixels Video Actual: 1990K Aperture: f1.8-2.9 Filter Diameter: 30mm 5 Lux DCR-HC26 Imaging Device: 1/6" CCD Pixel Gross: 680K Video Actual: 340K Pixels Aperture: f1.8-3.1 Filter Diameter: 25mm 5 Lux The 26 has a smaller lens (less light entering capability), a larger f/stop, and smaller CCD. This is the kind of lesser quality that makes for a comparably poorer image. Although the HD has the same f/stop, the lens size is bigger and the CCD chip is larger as well. The 22 is what I fly at this time. The HC3 is what a couple of professional cameraflyers fly at our DZ. I've seen the quality of both (and am -very- envious of the HC3's capabilities and quality). We have also seen the upstart cameraflyer with their 26.... Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
  23. Don't know about LA, but our Redlands one went off without a hitch.
