  1. At least there is one smart jumper out there, unfortunately from what I've seen you are a minority, my friend. Be safe and keep spreading the word of self-discovery and limitations.

    Denver??????

I live north of Denver and yeah it's expensive, but up here it isn't that congested, of course I'm comparing it to Houston, so you might think it's congested. I haven't been out to Brush yet, but I've jumped Mile-hi and thanked the good lord we didn't go up that extra 500 ft 13,000 cause I was hypoxic as shit and yes I did use O2. Oh and when they say your canopy is faster they aren't joking, I'd say mine felt 1 1/2 - 2 sizes smaller. Lets see people here are ruder than in Texas, I even asked one of the guy at work about that and he say it's gotten that way ever since all the CA people moved into the area. Yep when you drive it pretty much feels like you are driving in CA. So if you are from CA you will probably feel right at home, as for me, well Hook says when he moves up here I'll start liking it. I'm not going to hold my breath on that one. Don't get me wrong, it is very beautiful and there are lots of things to do, but I definately miss southern hospitality.
  3. Ramon, I trash pack to, when you say snapping do you mean just pulling strait out to the side? I do a sap that goes infront of me and back towards me making the canopy do that wave thing like when putting on a bed sheet.
  4. I can see how a little sliding in one event for a "Pro" is ok, but how many times have you seen 100 jump, 200 jump wonders doing the same thing cause that is what they saw on the ranch video. Or how about that guy who just got his 1st VX and since he doesn't know how to fly it as well or swoop it as well as some of the other pilots, does something stupid like swooping downwind to a sliding on his belly landing so the "spectators" notice him. I've seen it to many times to count, and I'm sure all of you will get up and say well someone should talk to him, but guess what you were the same ones clapping when he did it. The "pros" are role models what they do people see and want to do the same thing or better, so maybe it is time they counted up all the injuries over the years and showed the younger jumpers that if you fuck up in a sport that has almost no margin for error you can and will get hurt. It might be as minor as a sprain or as major as a femor, but fuck up a little and you can get hurt fuck up a lot and you can end up dead. Our friends are getting hurt and killed every weekend, maybe it's time we all took an ego check and figure out where the hell this attutude of "go big or go home" came from. Of course I'm a chick who doesn't swoop and who was told when I first got up here to get a bigger canopy cause I slid my first few landings in, so what do I know. I'll tell you what I know, I know I have 2 friends who are dead, I have one who was seriously fucked up and several others with minor injuries. I'm tired of being scared every weekend of getting another phonecall that says someone (perhaps one of you) didn't survive the weekend. Kelli Non-swooper, who cares to much about everyone.
  5. get an IRC client like MIrc, rather than using the java client. As a bonus you can't hear the sound thing when someone types that command.
  6. I had one on my sabre 150 and my best friend has one on her sabre 135 (care of hook). With the pocket on the slider I didn't have to do anything with the nose, just stuff it and put it in the bag, had nice 500-700 ft snivles, my friend with the 135 says she has closer to 800ft snivles and loves it. Just remember when doing hop-n-pops it is going to take longer to open and don't dump low or you could get in trouble.

Yeah we needs some chicks in here...someone come rescue me
  8. Actually Phree makes a very good point, wingloading makes a huge difference on how a wing flies. Like my old crossfire at 1:1 was fairly docile compared to the same canopy loaded at like 2:1. So you might like a canopy at one WL and not like it at another, an example would be of someone jumping a crossfire at 1.5:1 then going 2:1 not liking it so going to an FX at 2:1 which they like again.
  9. Well out of all the ones I've jumped (crossfire 1, cobalt, stiletto, crossfire 2) I like the crossfire 2 the best. TONS of flare, quick turns, light front riser preasure, easy to harness stear, it was more twitchy than the crossfire 1 but compared to the other canopies was not twitchy at all, basically it's very responsive with great slow flight characteristics.
  10. So what is the word on that Porsche, Mom?
  11. Yep he was definately stoked last night when he called. He couldn't beleive you almost kicked deguello's tush. I mean how many 8 way teams that have had 1 practice and with 1 member who hadn't jumped with the team ever tie deguello and have to do a jump off against them. You guys ROCKED!!!!! Just think what you could have done if you actually were able to practice together. I kind of feel bad for stealing him away to CO (but not that bad), but you should see how excited he was up here, it was like a kid in a candy store.

    Am I a poser?

hey hun, age doesn't mean a thing at the DZ, trust me I spent 2 hrs today talking to a guy who has been jumping 1 year longer than I've been alive and I'm 27. What was really cool is he wasn't telling old war stories, he was asking about the canopy I jump cause he saw my last 2 landings on it and was surprised by how easy I made it look to land without doing a hook turn. Luckly he didn't seem my first 3 landings up here on it. Age really doesn't matter, there was a guy yesterday who graduated aff who was in his early 50s, only thing he said about age was that he wishes he would have found out about this sport sooner. Trust me if he can do it you can do it too, plus when you graduated AFF it doesn't matter how old you are we have no problem drinking you beer
  13. 0:3:1 0 cause Hooknswoop is in Houston, 3 jumps would have been 1 or 2 more but hypoxia won, but I figured out my landings....steering lines are to long, grabbed the top of my toggles and so far in 0 winds at 5000 MSL, I had perfect tiptoe landings. and bought beer for my first helicopter jump....it's super cool when your DZO owns and fly a copter.
  14. Well I did get one jump in this morning and between the SUPER hot king air, the turbulance and the altitude I was hypoxic as shit (yes, I did ask for the O2) So after a picture perfect 0 wind landing I decided to call it a day rather then try a hop-n-pop.

    Am I a poser?

Don't be scared to go out to the DZ alone, all of us had to do it one time or another. Don't forget that you can also do working tandems where you pull your own ripcord stear the canopy yourself and as a bonus you have your instructor right there wispering sweet nothings....oops I mean telling you what to do and why.

    My life...

Medic it will get better, trust me it always does, just hang in there. Remember it's one day at a time, concentrate on now, tomorrow will take care of itself.
  17. Have I told you lately that I love you Hooknswoop doesn't stand a chance against you.
  18. Now if you add a photoshop edited picture it would be way more entertaining.
  19. yes very nicely done.... Ok I'm starting to feel like a looser it's 11 on a friday night and I'm sitting here online posting. Well and shopping, Skybytch will be happy I just forked out way to much cash for a boomerang.
  20. WAAAAAAA.....I want to come back down and play with Bryan and Robert!!!! *grumble* stupid move to CO.
  21. *stick tongue out at hook* See I told you it looked like micro-line and not riser webbing.

    Am I a poser?

Hey have you thought about checking out the local DZs. It would have helped had you did your jumps in New England so you could establish a "home" DZ. Even injured there is alot you can learn on the ground just by being out at the DZ. You can watch other people land which will help down the road when you are learning canopy control. You can learn about gear and packing so you will be ahead of the game by the time it is time to learn to pack and to choose gear. Really being injured isn't an excuse to not continue to learn, yes this website has lots of good info, but being at the DZ will put that info into perspective.

    Oh really? How?

hey we were just talking about this..... If you are the spotter your new job is to look for clouds, traffic, the spot, and missles.
