If you ever get a chance do a "speed star" out of a DC-3 except where the 1st person out is the base. I've never learned more on a dive than on that one, it's all out diving and tracking, and learning how to pass safely. I was something like the 8th person out and docked 3rd, (the people in front of me never got there). Don't forget when diving out you are on the hill so for a few seconds when tracking you actually can't see it, just trust it's there and fly to it. When you see it again depending on it's size and which diver you are becareful not to quit diving just cause it looks like it is right under you, both you and it could still be on the hill. I've done that several times, then when everything levels out I'm far away from it or above it cause I changed the way I was flying threw the air and riding the hill. If you are docking on one of the sides remember to aim to that side and out from the formation, fly to your radial then turn to fly into the formation. By doing this you are lined up with your slot, you don't cut anyone else off and if the people you are docking on aren't there you are able to fly to your slot and wait for them to arrive to pick up grips. Which is what I had to do the the MT womens record, in the video you can see both sides of my loop having trouble and me sitting in my slot behind my base person waiting for them to get things figured out. I'm the one in the red circle this was taken on our second attempt since my loop never got the backsliding issue figured out, actually if you look you can tell there is still some backsliding going on, on my right. Line of flight is the red arrow. Just for info's sake this was a formation load Skyvan and S.Otter. I was 2nd to last diver out of the Skyvan, but some how ended up having to be the last person to dock on my loop.

He's been jumping 7 years. As for which jump he did it on, I'm not actually sure, he likes to hide his log book from me..

Yep our own Hooknswoop hit 3000. Ofcourse he had to do it with someone strapped to the front of him to hold him stable. So Pies and spankings are the order of the day. Fly it like you stole it!

Well on your belly is where you pull and tracking is a skill that becomes 10Xs more important in freeflying, so the safest enviornment to learn those is on your belly. Personally I had 75 jumps when I started freeflying, then 25 jumps or so later went back to belly flying (damn peer preasure) anyway, my belly skills had improved by like 50%. Then spent another 100 jumps on my belly working on different skills. Since then it's been about 75% freeflying 25% belly flying. I like having the ability to walk onto a DZ and being able to hop on a 20-way RW or a 4-way freefly. As for jumpsuits, get a basic RW suit with booties nylon front and tight, for freeflying go the pants with bungie on the ankles and a long sleeved shit. Then get a weight belt, you can wear it for either FF or RW, I'm a small girl and have worn it for both. Fly it like you stole it!

Well I hate to say this about a DZ but I will back up Duey on this. (Yes I know who he is) That place is breaking BSRs(which it doesn't have to obey anyway) FARs and I'm sure a few other acronyms I'm not sure about. But hey, what can we as skydivers do.....Contact the USPA....ummm...they will tell you there is nothing they can do....call the FAA, they won't do anything either.....been there done that. So word of mouth is the only way to protect other jumpers from potentially dangerous places. Trust me if anyone of you walked on to that DZ you would do just like Derek and I and walk away. Ok so you would be walking away giggling....but you would still be walking away. Fly it like you stole it!

No, there is no fight.....it's a valid question especially looking at some of his replies. I mean if this is how staff at Mile-hi feels then that is fine, and it really explains why I got nothing but bad vibes when I first moved here a few months ago. I'm sure you remember when I almost quit cause I couldn't stand how mean people were to eachother around here. Fly it like you stole it!

You know I'm getting the feel from you that you would be the first one to throw the party. Do you hate other experienced jumpers that come out to Mile-Hi that much? Fly it like you stole it!

You know it's totally a catch 22. Students pay the bills and fun jumpers are a pain for the DZOs. So you put your time and effort into the tandems and students. Due to that you run off the fun jumpers but that is cool cause they were a pain anyway. Now you have students coming off student status and the only ones for them to jump with are other students, solos, or maybe a 2 way with an experienced jumper who is out there for 1 reason or another. Well the student soon gets discouraged and either goes to a different DZ or quits jumping, not a big deal they were now a fun jumper and just a pain....right? Well here is where the problem lies, your students of today are your instructors of tomarrow. The students of today are your riggers of tomarrow. The students of today are the future of the sport. So how do you keep the students of today in the sport? You need to "give" them a reason to come out every weekend. In a day of jumping how much time do you spend in the air? 5 Min? 6 Min? What are you doing the rest of the time? Sitting on the ground. Talking to other jumper learning things, getting organization by an experienced jumper, learning how to do 4-ways, 6-ways, 20-ways. So with no experienced jumpers there other than staff who are to busy with Tandems and Students do you think low time jumpers will stick around? I can answer that cause I've seen alot of people go through AFF then disapper. No, some will find a new DZ but most will quit. Fly it like you stole it!

Oh.....you have to see that DZ though. Have you all seen the movie Fandango? If you haven't get your ass to the movie rental place and watch it. Anyway, you know the DZ in Fandango, well that "Bandit" DZ makes the one in fandango look like the top of the line instructional facility. Hehehe...I think the gear they are using in the movie is newer than the stuff they are putting students out on. I mean it's bad when Derek has never seen those kind of rigs before. Oh and you should see the plane, it's a piper cherokee, with the lugage compartment cut open so they could have a bigger door. *YIKES* So in this case I would say they aren't the safest place, I mean heck when the chief instructor only has 75 jumps, I'd be worried. Derek and I walked over there to check the place out we were told there are no rules, we can do anything we want to. There were no waivers to sign and I doubt I would have had to show them my repack card, but then again if the pilot was caught flying jumpers he has a bigger problem on his hands since he only has his private. Fly it like you stole it!

I personally did AFF, but if I could do it over again I would have done AFP. I remember how I flew with only 20 jumps and I've jumped with other people off of AFF with 20 jumps. Then I jumped with people off AFP with 20 jumps. The difference is night and day. People who did AFP are so far ahead of the power curve not only in the air but also under canopy. They have an easier time getting others to jump with them since they are able to hold thier own in the air. Really I think the biggest benifit is with so many jumps with an instructor is that the program can really be tailored to the person. If you are weak in something like tracking, that gets worked on more than lets say leg turns. If you are totally on the ball and a natural, you might start learning how to fly the mantis. You have the ability to learn more on each dive cause less is expected off you so you don't end up so overloaded once you are in the air. Also if you think AFP is going to cost you alot more than AFF. Derek figured it out today when we were talking about just this thing with a DZO. It turns out that AFP which takes you to 20 jumps and every jump with an instructor who is also videoing you, so your de-brief is more than you did this or that, you can actually see what you did. vs. AFF (to 20 jumps) that is only 7 jumps with an instructor, only video you get is if you buy it, then if you do the coach jumps you are suppose to do (depends on the DZ) or 13 solos comes out to cost almost the same. I think AFP was like $50 more. So like I said if I could do it again I would spend $50 more and do the AFP program. Fly it like you stole it!

Thanks....I hate it when that happens at work. Trying to do serious work and something I copied from here ends up in a script cause my copy didn't acutally copy. Fly it like you stole it!

This line bothers me. I came from North Dakota and have seen several of the indian reservations, if you ask me we (the "whites") have not compensated them for anything. The reservations are cast off land that the US doesn't want, and everyone on them lives in poverty. Yes, some tribes are doing better than others, but you can say the same about some African Americans. The US's past is filled with people being taken advantage of, we can't change that, but we can hope that we don't make the mistakes of our past and do them again. Fly it like you stole it!

*shrug* You had to know weasle, he was quite the cat. 21 lbs of heathen kitty luv. Actually the vet who said it, said that the stuff is so bad for animals skin didn't matter what kind of animal it was, but it was better than fleas which the majority of animals were alergic to and them chewing on themself can cause infections and lots of other nasty stuff. Why do you think it says on the box not to get any on your skin. On the other hand my persian has to go to the vet to get a haircut he is so temperamental. Don't dare putting anything on him or he will probably start puking. Fly it like you stole it!

What kind of canopy is she jumping? There is a huge difference between sabre and a ragged out manta (what I learned on). On that manta, even if I flared perfect I still had a hard landing. Flare to high, ankle burner, flare to low, pound into the ground. Fly it like you stole it!

This isn't base related but we prefer hiking/backpacking on BLM and national forest land rather than in national parks. If I wanted to hike with 50 screaming/whiney kids i would go to the mall. Plus our doggie gets to join us rather than sit at home torturing the cat.

Hey Ann, Susan told me about the household animal drama, when Derek shipped her canopy back to her he was suppose to include a box of advantage (4 aplications) it's for a 50 lb dog but I figure you can divy out 1 of the treatments to several of the small one. hehe....I always put just a dab of Fox's treatment on the cat so everyone is treated. Before anyone freaks out the Vet said it was ok. So what are the colors of the kittens? I'm sure Derek wouldn't kill me if I got another cat and I know Fox would like a new toy. Fly it like you stole it!

Ummm....have you ever needed it? Since I doubt the answer is yes, how would you know how easy it is and do you really think they are going to let you sit up in the front of the King Air and make you climb over Tandems to get out 1st. Yes I had asked for it the 1st few weekends I was out at Mile-hi after the huge hassle it seemed to be I quit and just quit jumping until I was acclimated. Also, the only O2 on the plane is the stuff the pilot is using he usually takes it at about 9k and AFF and Tandems have priority over it. Fly it like you stole it!
