If you weigh 66 KG and you add around 10 KG for rig, suit, helmet etc. you end up at around 165 - 170 Pounds. So you would load the Hornet at a 1:1 WL which is not too bad for most, depending on your training and skills. I do not know the Hornet well and do not know how "aggressive" they fly / how they open and if appropriate for your jump numbers. I would say you should be more concerned about the reserve. A F-111 150 loaded at 1.1 - 1.2 might be a little small. I own a Safire 2 and tried a Sabre (1). The Safire 2 is IMO a much nicer canopy then the Sabre 1. However the Sabre 2 is very different (totally new design). From all accounts the Safire 2 and Sabre 2 are now very similar (as you stated). Spot on, - showing these movies was typical "bait" by skydiving clubs in the 70's when visiting Educational institutions and at other promotional activities. It was always: Wings, Masters of the Sky, Skydive and Sky Capers on 16 mm. I am sure a lot of "tbrown's" and my generation were sucked in by these movies. They were really unusual for their time. Packing a 16 mm when free falling was a hugh task at the time and Boenish & Co. were real pioneers. The technology was very different then. I remember an "intentional" bad spot many. many years ago. A guy was strapped into an old static line (military harness) system with a T-10 round for his jump no. 100 at sunset. The guy was too exited to notice when they flew him at least 2 miles away from the DZ to drop him off (rural area with no traffic). The jump master pointed to the direction of the DZ before pushing him off with a big grin. 1:3:0 Pulled 1 hamstring when doing a nice grass "surf" on sunset Saturday. Its winter down here and the grass was wet and frosty. I did a "style" jump from around 8-9 K and a "Phantom" passed right under me while I was in free fall. Me around 5-6 K - Phantom around 3 K. I could feel the turbulence. Any of these in strong winds? Being in a round (not Para C type) in wind is no fun. Yes, but what if you are about to drift into a build up area, freeway, power lines, lake, river ??? Well if you bother study history, the UN has made a huge difference preventing a lot of Wars. Organise health programs, coordinating relief efforts, help find settlements, doing peace keeping misssions. Yes the system is flawed, it could be much better, but do not judge based on limited knowledge. Big difference is - at that time the weapons were muskets now they are nukes. Slight difference. I would also assume that we have developed since then. Yes we did. We did not fully commit the military deployment and throw more than enough at them to decisively win the war/battle. That mistake was already repeated in Somalia, so it probably will not be repeated for another generation. Man that is not the lesson, and BTW you were throwing at some stage everything at this. The lesson was that the US went in there without understanding all the issues, without a plan for what to do with the country (a little like Iraq) and without local and regional support. But I think it is a concern when the US does treat people worse then its own citizen and not in accordance with their own Constitution (of which they are rightly proud of) or the Geneva convention... So it is all right to do this because a) you treat people better then the Nazis and the Japs did? b) because these people are alleged to be terrorists (and probably are)? So your legal principals laid down in your great Constitution does not apply for foreigners? Hmm, what are we defending here again? c) The US does not reconize the international war crimes court (and is AFIK the only country to do so) but feels free to set up a tribunal for those guys held in detention that neither complies with American legal principles nor with international legal principals (in regard to proper legal process and rights of the accused - heck most of these guys have not even been charged after 18 month). ?? Again no one was against the action in Afghanistan - everybody supported it and a BROAD coalition was created and a LOT of different countries did send troops. What people are questioning is the strategy and action chosen in regard to Iraq and concerns how the US will handle North Korea. As well as concerns in regard to how the US disregards principles we are assumed to be fighting for (proper legal process).
