Bill, Do you have any stats on this? AFAIK the fatality statistics from the 70's and 80's had a high percentage of "no pull". I do not know how they compare to the number Cypres saves. I read something about that there were 300-400 documented Cypres saves world-wide. Don't know how many in the US. How does that compare to the with the reduction of fatalities due to "no pull" - anyone have stats? --------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull. One I have heard often over many years is skydivers surviving impact in freefall without any "nylon" out. I only know of one confirmed one from WW2 where a British bomber crew member survived by hittting large trees and there was a lot of snow on the ground. He was badly injured so. I saw an interview with him. Any other incident Iknow of have always had something out to slow them down somewhat and they normally saved by muddy ground, water etc. Never known about a total mal impact being survived besides above. But I always have friends(whuffos) telling me about it.... --------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull. When ants look like people - pray.

READ TEXT FIRST The attached picture was devised as part of a stress test developed by researchers at St. Mary's Hospital in London. It is the final picture of a series of stress determinators to gauge the amount of stress a patient has built up over a short time. Look at the attached picture of two dolphins jumping out of the water in tandem. The research has shown that the more differences you notice in the two dolphins, the more stressed you are. This is attributed to the concentration and recognition influences intensifying when stressed. The two are very similar, so if you can tell the difference without looking hard, you should pack up work and go home immediately. Tonto, I don't think you would need to worry. It does depend on the CI at the DZ you go to. But if you hold well known licenses (USPA, PASA etc.), have lots of jumps, are current (and especially are an instructor), you would have any problems here in OZ. I don't think my CI/DZO would ask you to make an evaluation jump . Different story if you come with 100 jumps from an "unknown" country (license wise). documents in a different language, and you have not jumped for 3 month, thats a different story...... In regard to E and F license - check the APF web site. It's mostly number of jumps, accuracy, night jumps, etc. etc. With your record you should have no issues. --------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull. Hi Warwick, I see you do a great deal of thinking and are developing a raft of "strategies" / check lists / procedures or whatever you want to call it. Seems that most of it is very sound. The only thing I however would warn against is getting too obsessive about it. The reason (IMO) is that the difference between a student that makes quick progress (especially in free fall) and one that is struggling is their state of mind, i.e. are they relaxed or not. If you are relaxed you will find skydiving much easier (e.g. less nervous tension in muscles = better free fall maneuvers). You are still a student and people are "looking after you" so while the procedures are great - I am just concerned that if you get too focussed on them you will "tense up". But as I said, they are good points and good for visualising a jump and have a procedure, but just make sure it does not backfire while you are still learning to fly. --------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull. Thanks for clarifying this – I really did not like the way this was heading. As said, if you want to debate the regulations we have or not have in OZ or the structure of the APF etc. – hey lets bring it on - I think a few of the aussies here would join in. On another note, I still just can not understand how you think that any DZ owner either here or in the US is / could get rich…… --------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull. When Talk Back gets "sleazy" it annoys me. For one, I am not that interested in looking at other people’s genitalia, secondly the Talk Back forum sometimes reminds me of a teenage chat room. I try to skim through the postings quickly so even if I try to avoid these I run into them from time to time. It is also problematic for me as I enjoy a quick read during a coffee or lunch break at work and these topics and pics could get me sacked (company policy). If people want to do “I show your mine if you show me yours” or discuss orgasm techniques, I think they should do it on web sites that are dedicated to it. Just my 2 cents and I know I will get bashed for it. --------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull. When ants look like people - pray.

Hear, hear.... When I started in the late 70's, PLF was a big part of the training (getting your first jumps took a few weeks then...). I must have made hundredes at the time, having to use rounds for the first 115 jumps then was kind of good incentive. Practise is important. I would like to see the faces at my DZ if I try to suggest everybody do a PLF re-fresher...... But maybe I should.... --------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull. When ants look like people - pray.

Nothing wrong with free speech. There are lots of regulations in skydiving, not just in OZ but in many countries. Actually, I think (having lived and skydived in Europe prior to OZ) that there are much more restrictive regulations in many European countries compared to OZ. Your are making some grand statements here mate and you are not underpinning them with facts. 1) You are making some serious claims about 2 DZ operators without naming them but enough for people to speculate who they are. That is not fair, so I challenge you to name them - especially as you are indirectly accusing them of corruption. I would be a little more careful if I was you. 2) You claim that we have "rich" DZ owners and that "most of their money was made from the sport ". Define rich. The economics of running a DZ in Australia is not that different (AFAIK) from the US. So the "rich" DZ owner thing is BS and people located in the US will agree. Only if you have a highly effective Tandem "factory" you probably make a decent buck out of skydiving - but I can not imagine that even somebody like that would be "rich" in most peoples terms. 3) You are inferring that those "rich" DZ owners (and I think I know one of them), being involved in the APF, are creating regulations like mandatory AAD use in order to profit from it as business owners. In other words, you are accusing them of corruption. How would they profit from the AAD regulations? It means they have to purchase AAD's for all their rigs - how are they profiting from that? It will help with insurance issues but that is a problem for everyone. 3) It is OK to disagree with certain regulations and if you are passionate about it you should use your democratic right as an APF member to advance your case in the right forums. You should however not make unsubstantiated claims about people. I hope the people you are referring to (and it is far too easy to identify them from what you wrote) are not reading DZ.com, because they might just file defamation action. Be aware Australian law is quite strict in these matters. 4) BTW - most ossie skydivers I know are quite happy with the regulations we have down here (especially the "Cypres rule") and many would actually like to see something in regard to the WL issue. This does not mean you are not entitled to your opinions; just try to do it with out throwing mud at people please. PS: I am a fun jumper and not in anyway involved in the operations of a DZ. --------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull. When ants look like people - pray.

let me decide what i wanna fukin do with myself....... freakin safety happy nazis.......... btw, i have 3 rigs, all with cypres's and id jump without one and have.*** Don't understand - your profile says you are in the US - in the US you are not forced to have a Cypres but you've got one on all your rigs. So what are you complaining about?? It must mean you think a Cypres is a good thing or...? Also, what is a "happy nazi"? or do you mean "happy safety nazi"...? If people really understood what a nazi is they would not use this word so loosely about other people... --------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull. You did not read my post? - go away. You are not behaving like a prof - you are behaving like a school yard bully. The data (or lack of data) issue has been discussed dozens of times. So go away - piss up against a different tree. --------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull. When ants look like people - pray. -

Whatever. I wont get drawn further into a pissing contest with you. I am more interested in how we can prevent people getting hurt or killed then abusing people who have a view that is different from my own. "you have posted in it but that doesn't mean you read it, I guess" - you can't help yourself can you? Sad... --------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull. When ants look like people - pray. -

Hi Jamin, Let us know who it is and we beat him up for you.... You still coming down to Melbourne next week? Not sure about my jump activities. If I go to Nagambie that week-end I let you know. because accusing somebody to willingly mirepresenting / misleading is to call them a liar in my book. As I mentioned, I am happy to discuss if I misunderstood something, but I will not stand being accused of misrepresenting things - this implies malice. Firstly - OK I did not research all your posts over the last few month (and you do post a lot) before writing my post. And I am happy to clarify that I was more referring to your position on WL BSR's. I give you that. However I was referring to amongst other this: Note I have done the "italic" on your qoute. The above is from THIS thread. You agree 100% with the statement that you prefer the staus quo. So I am misleading? I also refer to your initial post in this thread that gives a clear indication of what you think about regulation (again I did not see your comments regarding license requirements in June): OK, maybe the word "perfect" is not the best choice, but going back through your posts you come across as very demanding in regard to the data that needs to be produced before any WL restrictions can be accepted, and you have clearly stated that you do not accept peoples personal "experience" (i.e. people who have been in the sport a long time are convinced that low time jumpers under high WL are more at risk) as an argument for change. I find you are way to aggressive my friend. "Total misrepresentation" - not on - I refer to above where you 100% agree to Wendy saying you are for a status quo. The only thing that needs to be added is that you seem to be happy for some mandatory training in conjunction with licenses and I am in agreement with you. But I am also in favour of clear WL restriction tied to experience level and you are not. If you try to rip people apart on detail you should be sure not to be in a glasshouse. I talked about fatalities per 100 thosand jumps in the last 10-20 years. The statistic you refer to 1) only covers up to 1997 that is 6 years ago. 2) I did make it very clear that I was not 100% sure on that one 3) Look at the total number of fatalities. If I read this right then after a "spike" in the mid to late 70's the fatality numbers look quite stable from 1982 onward and seem actually to increase slightly at the end. So if you are so busy slamming people on detail: I can see that the fatalities per member is falling, but this can have other reasons (more AFF students etc.) it does not show fatality rate per 100 thousand jumps which I was talking about (but made a point I was not quite sure if I rembered correctly), number of mebers does NOT equal number of jumps. So before accusing me of gross misrepresentations maybe you should get your own facts right first. No matter how you measure the fatality rate it would be only about half, if it was not for landing incidents (as I stated and that was the important part of my original point). The number for 1996 is 46% fatalities due to landing. It would make it easier to have a discussion if you could turn down the aggressive and condescending side of things. Also, you have not in any way replied to the main point I made - and that is that sometimes you need to take action without sufficient data, rely on peoples knowledge and expierience and lead from the front. Again lets get away from accusing people of misleading and get back to the issue of saving lives. --------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull. Mostly right here in Australia - like so many people who move here from overseas I have no plans what so ever to leave again. You have to experience it to understand. If I had a lot of money, I would also have a nice little summer residence in either Northern Italy or the South of France. Sitting in the sunset with a bottle of local wine and enjoying the local food on summer nights.... --------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull.
